I'm not sure if this goes here, but I just bought it today. Is it any good?

Take a look at my sig. Then take note that Identity Crisis is the only bunch of all those stories that I gave 5 stars to on my Facebook Books application.

My absolute favorite of all Crisis-related stories, it fleshes out characters I'd only previously read past wondering "who are they?" and gives them purpose and motivation. Humanizes them. Made me want to learn more about them in their own separate stories. Furthermore, the events of Identity Crisis are even still in effect today, as read in Countdown to Final Crisis.

Enjoy it, it's great stuff.

Allow me to be the voice of reason.

I thought it started great! Good mystery, lots of characters and some underused ones too.

But then it all fell apart. Characters were written so out of character (Deathstroke took out the entire JLA himself!), I am not a fan of the art so that didn't help and then there was the ending. I won't spoil it for you... but PM me or bump this thread when you're done reading it and we'll talk.

I think it's a great story. While the ending wasn't the best, I really can't see it ending any other way and still having the same emotional impact.

It kind of falls apart towards the end, but it's still a good read. A lot of long-time fans aren't very fond of how certain characters were treated and characterized in it, but if your knowledge of the DCU isn't that in-depth it probably won't affect you at all.

For what it's worth, I myself enjoyed it. Identity Crisis is basically a mystery, so if you like the genre you'll be entertained. But like I said, the conclusion's a little shaky, especially if you give the culmination of events leading up to the big reveal more than a moment's thought.

Meltzer isn't a great comic writer , he might be a fine novelist (i'm not sure , i never read his novels) but his comic work since has proven to be less than stellar (JLA anyone ?) and identity crisis is in a similiar vein.

I got the feeling that Meltzer was still in novelist-mode when he worked on Identity Crisis. He knows what makes a good story, a good tale, but when working in comics, just as it is in translating a novel or comic to big screen format, there are some things that need to be altered, and Meltzer tweaked those bits in Identity Crisis to suit his novelist side, passing by the things that made these characters appeal to the larger scale comic book fans. I can't fault him because it was his first foray into comics. Any primary transition into another format is usually shakey.

I like Identity Crisis as a mini-series, but as something that effects the entire DC universe - - eh.

Agreed, especially on the Deathstroke bit......That was ridiculous.

I originally bought the collected hardcover and realized the only part of the book I liked was the first issue, so I bought the first issue and put the hardcover away in my "get rid of later" box.

Identity Crisis was pretty much was the start of DC's return to top form, and is a very good book.

I didn't like it at all really, and am ashamed to have it on my shelf. :(

Ok, I finished it. And I liked it, I didn't get some of it, but I got the gist of it. Like, how much does it relatye to the DCU? And does the lobotimzation of Batman, that was wierd...I didnt get why they did that.

Good stuff. The only thing that would have made it better would be if DC had come out with a year long, weekly lead in to it that ended up not leading in to it.:p
