"Every hero becomes a bore at last." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Who's boring now or is on their way to fading away?

Right now, BND Spider-Man is pretty boring to me because I felt like I read it before and no matter how hard I try, Captain Marvel can never grab me after his death.

FF.

Never read one single issue I liked. The idea of the Brady Bunch having powers doesn't appeal to me.

i know i'm going to piss a lot of people off, but thor. granted i haven't read anything from his current run, but in the past i always thought he was a pompous ass with a holier than thou attitude and an overall stale personality. i've really tried getting into the character in the past, never could.

on the contrast, i always loved his greek counterpart hercules because he didn't act like he had a stick up his ass the whole time. the dude parties hard and plays hard and takes very little seriously, i loved his characterization in thor: blood oath! hopefully herc gets a little more of the spotlight this time around now that he has his own book.

JMS's Spider was a horrible bore to me.
Ghostrider is a character Im like, but I hardly ever find him written well.
Cyclops couldn't be non-boring if he tried.

Agreed. The FF is getting kinda boring too. I'm hoping Millar can give it some life.

We are agreed upon boring characters not being characters we hate, yes?

In that case, Captain America bores me as a standalone character.

Hmmm... She-Hulk right now is not doing it for me. Post Dan SLott, all the things I really liked about the charater sort of went away. Hopefully that will change because I really do like the character.

Until Bru got a hold of that character, I couldn't STAND Cap. Bored me to tears. Then Bru turned it into a John LeCarre international espionage romp and I was sold. Even though the character still reeks to me.

I'm not denying there is good FF comics, I'm syaing the idea and characters bore me. I don't even like their powers. I just don't like anything about it.

Horrible. I absolutely despise Sage. Claremont seems determined to shove her down everyone's throats. I will never accept her as an X-Man. Chris for the love of God kill her off ASAP.

Read his current story line, it has the best characterization in Marvel today, not so much Thor but the rest of the cast.

I find the Fantastic Four unutterably dull. The only one who interests me remotely is Sue, and that's only because I like Namor and because of her stance during Civil War.

Apart from that, I find Reed totally bland and without character. The Human Torch is the cliched hothead, and you can't have a character act like that for 40 years and keep it interesting. Even The Thing's inner angst about his appearance is boring.

And yes, Captain America bored me too, until I read Brubaker's version. I guess it's because I'm not American, but his character had never interested me before.

Don't get what's so great about Cable. Big musclebound cyborg type from the future who carries a big gun, turned self aggrandising messiah figure. No thanks.

Yeh I'm those who find the FF and Captain America boring. They just don't do anything for me. Storm is probably top of the pile though, just a really boring character.

Captain America is boring, but he's been written very well. Brubaker made me a fan. That says a lot. With that said, Cap's seen his day, and Bucky is very interesting at the moment.

Spidey was awesome during most of JMS's run, but really lamed out towards the end. I have the last 200 issues or so of Amazing, and I've never been so turned off as I am now.

Thor is boring, but he's been saved by this new series. I love it!

And Cyclops is supposed to be boring. It's like taking a loner and forcing them to to become a leader. That's what makes it interesting. To the casual read though, it's quite boring.

Black Panther... He's way too uptight and noble to the point of being a chump.

She-Hulk... Another generic nobody with superpowers and that's all there is to it with her. I hope she gets killed off in Secret Invasion.

Nova. I hope he gets killed off and then his series canceled. And as a lesson (just for good measure) it becomes company policy that in the future Nova can never have his own series again. Bringing up such a topic would get you fired and blackballed.

My List of Boring Heroes

Colossus
Ronin/Hawkeye
The Classic Fantastic Four
Wolverine (I just don't care when he's on panel.)
Captain America (the concept just seems off.)
Wonder Man
Machine Man (though he does try to be funny at least)
Dr Strange
Silver Surfer

Colossus is so boring. He does need to have a radical shake-up. Maybe he needs to join another group like the NA or the MA.

Dr. Strange needs to let his houseboy go free, get together with the Night Nurse and take on a new apprentice ((I saw a returned Alex Wilder but anyone who is in their teens/early twenties with wild streak). He should be less powerful but capable of teaching his apprentice to be the next Sorcerer Supreme while realizing that there are others being trained for the job.

I only really find a hero or heroine really boring when he or she starts bordering on the omnipotent. If the outcome of their battles is never in doubt it becomes pointless. Where's the drama in winning every time?

I want heroes that have weak points and flaws that they have to strive against. That's why I find the mutants compelling. And that's why my interest level plummets when a character is hyped as being undefeatable.

Cap used to be the man when Andy Kubert drew him back in the day. Used to love him.

Gotta agree with Thor being pretty boring. However, I think he's currently being drawn the way he should have been all along.

Wolverine was becoming redundant, but he did just impress me with what he did to that Mutant X monster.

Cable is meh.

I agree with what someone else said earlier about the FF. The only thing I want to see is Susan become a real woman, step up, and thrash Reed for the things he's done. THAT would be most interesting to me.

As ED said, NO character is innately boring. (Especially not the FF, Cap or Thor!) If you're not interested in them, that's the writer's fault- not the character's.

Except Sentry. He's just always boring.

I don't read comics I dislike or find boring... so I don't know.

How do you know you dislike them or find them boring if you don't read them?

Alright, now that I got the cute reply out of the way. How many chances do you give a comic, writer, artist? 1, 2, more? Just curious.

Do you give a comic, as the person you replied to, multiple chances, maybe dependent on the creative team, or do you judge the concept just once?

The art in alot of books is my passion. If the story interests me, I'll read it for a while, but if the art is horrible, it will wear on me. For an example, I'd reference whatever issue it was in X-cutioners Song where Kamikaze (sp) got his head cut off. That series was great, but the art I could have lived without.

To those that mentioned GR, have you read the first Jason Aaron issue or any interviews he has done about the character? His run promises to be fantastic if the quality of his work remains steady, like it has on Vertigo's Scalped.

Wolverine - Guggenhiem killed him off for me.

FF- always found them boring enough to one of the very few superheros in marvel i havent tried.

X-men -specially the big names except Kitty,Colossus.

Iron Man - his CW take and his facistisc ways is so boring and annoying. Before he was a lame Bruce Wayne clone that was alright as Iron Man.

Cable

Captain America

Iron Man

Thor

BND Spider-Man

Cyclops

Elektra (hero?)

Moon Knight (great book right now, despite the fact I can't stand the lead character)

And don't get me wrong, I love most these characters. They've just been written poorly a good portion of the time. Thor and Cap have been awesome lately.

So basically just Cable. lol

Captain Marvel
Wonder Man

I don't really consider what they've been doing, certainly not what they are doing now, as Spider-man. It's was never going to be in character for him to unmask or stab his friends in the back (in my opinion) by abandoning all his ethics. To me, Spider-man's off somewhere else.

So, I don't consider Spider-man done. Just frozen somewhere. Yeah, it looks boring now, but I think a great writer who doesn't do television could of brought him back by pretending the last ... I don't know ... one, two, five years never happened.

That's the only way to bring him back to life again.

Wolverine is just Average Joe Canadian now.

Nah its not only about the writers in this.

For example i never read Punisher and Iron Fist in their own series/minies before Ennis,Bru;fraction but i thought Punisher and Iron Fist had much more potential then were used.

I thought they werent boring before the great writers took them.

Some characters bore me to death despite the best writers.

Uncanny X-men was unreadable to me cause of how much X-men characters bore me despite it was written by Bru whose 99% of his current work is in my pullist.

I wont go into who is boring me "lately" as that's just a good character/wrong writer issue...Who I think are ABSOLUTE snore-inspiring no matter who writes them:

Silver Surfer, Sentry, Sunspot, Sun-Fire, She Hulk.

|EDIT| My initial response was kinda convoluted and didn't make much sense, so I'll just do a list:

Characters that are cool on a team, but boring solo:
-Iron Man
-Hulk (strange choice I know, but I like him when he's part of the Marvel Adventures Avengers)
-Dr. Strange
-Hawkeye
-Namor
-Most longtime members of a team book that have never had much exposure off the team

Just plain 'ole boring characters [aka, I might like them as a character, but I wouldn't read their book]:
-Daredevil-related ladies (Echo, Elektra)
-Spider-Woman
-Ms. Marvel
-Captain Marvel
-Silver Surfer
-Fantastic Four (the current arc has got me reading but I doubt it'll last past Millar&Hitch's run)
