Marvel League 2008

Well...it's been two years now...but it's back! The new Marvel League!

Most of you know the drill, but if you don't, follow the link at the bottom of the post.

A few notes you must know, though:

- Draft begins on Monday, March 10th (a week from this Monday).

- Once the draft begins, the draft list is set in adamantium, and will not be changed.

- Now is the time to take a look at the draft list (follow the link at the bottom of this post), and let me know if any LIVING & POWERED characters need to be added to the list...if you honestly think there's a possibility you would draft this character (e.g. don't tell me Tagak the Dragon Lord needs to be added if you have no intentions of drafting him).

- Now is also the time to let me know if the point value of a particular character is either MUCH too high or MUCH too low. Don't quibble over a point (or two) variation.

-If you have participated in one of these tournaments recently (Mutant League, DC League, JLAvengers League, Avengers League) and have unceremoniously QUIT, then I'll only consider letting you join the league IF you have a partner (who has not done the same).

- Partners are acceptable for any participant.

- You must have at least 100 posts to join the league (as a solo player).

- Keep all trash-talking clean, civil, and in THIS thread.

- There's been one MAJOR change this year--and I'm not going to be swayed from my decision on this change. Once you click the link, you'll soon see what it is.:evilsmile

- There's been on minor change this year--total team point value: 20 points.

Also, can we get a more spread out scaling? Something more akin to the Avengers League for e.g? Because there is alot of variation between characters of equal worth on the list.

OH! Since they're not strictly X-characters, could we possibly have the Wisdom/MI-13/Excalibur/Cap Britain and Exiles crowd included? They're not edited by the X-editors, contain characters from all over the place, aren't affiliated with Xavier's legacy and aren't ever included in the X-overs. Also, there are Defenders missing!!!!

Wanda told me that she wants nothing to do with Roma, Sage, nor any of their friends.

Variation in point value: I wanted to keep it simpler this year, so that there would be some small variation of power/power set within a given value point (or points), and--mainly--because designating point values the way I did this year was MUCH less of a headache than previous assignation attempts. So I believe the 1-10 ranking will stay. If after this year's league is over I/we feel that this new ranking system doesn't work, then I'll change it.

What Defenders are missing? (EDIT: Oops! Nighthawk was missing. He's not anymore!)

Agent Beefcake is Cheesecake's male counterpart, was a cast member of She-Hulk briefly, he is designed to be a weapons, combat and seduction model.

What about Agent Locke from Ms. Marvel? Trained Shield agent and low level telepath. Was part of Operation: Lightning Storm.

Oh, and Black Knight! Cloak! Dagger! Atlas! Loki! Jessica Jones! Madame Webb! Kismet! Warlock! Elsa Bloodstone! Namora! Blackbolt! Guardians of the Galaxy(the future dudes who joined the avengers and defenders)!

How about the Alphans? They've been moved to MU imprint (as have the MI-13 characters, while Wisdom and Captain Britain were never part of the X-line - Tink, John Lennon and Maureen were never Sage and Roma's friends!) and large amount of them have never even met any of the X-men. Just to clarify, with the Excal-esque pleading I am not after Meggan!

Which Black Panther is this? AFAIK, there is only one currently around- the original. Killmonger briefly took the mantle, but failed to pass the initiation when the heart shaped herb killed him (though he was subsequently restored to life, so technically may be the Black Panther- it never really got resolved). Kasper Cole was briefly the Black Panther, but soon took on the mantle and costume of the White Tiger (of which, now, there are two).

Was there some other Black Panther?

There is no character limit--there is only a point-value limit. If you want, you could take twenty one-point characters (though I hope you don't, for it would make for a long draft), or you could take two ten-point characters and be done.

There is another, he's listed in the Initiative one shot that came out - there's a whole bunch of characters that are listed in the back there as heroes who could be drafted for the program. I always assumed it was the one who was the cop but I'm not 100% sure.

She's always been in the Mutant League despite not being an X-character and I always had the impression she was. You've made me uncertain now. :confused: Plus Wolverine is in there, so it's only fair that she gets to stay ... just consider that you have full capability to cause Clint orgasms if you continue to approve her entrance in the League. And I've seen Clint's naughty pics, that's a pretty good ability to have!

I'm not sure how Astro can't be a mutant, as he has the same latent ability as his younger counterpart (just less developed). Unfortunately, neither Marvel.com nor Marvel Directory don't have an entry for him, so I can't confirm.

You're right--Astrovik is the mutant. Astro's latent psi abilities (which pseudocomicscience tells us everyone has) manifest themselves during his century-spanning trek across the univers.

Anaconda is not a mutant. She was mutated by Roxxon Oil just like Sidewinder, Black Mamba, Death Adder, and Bushmaster. The only reason she was in Mutant League this year was because Matt was including characters who had ties to X-Men but weren't mutants. Lorelei was also on it and was not a mutant.

I think it's like this mainly to make alot of people squirm, since alot of non-mutants and non-x-characters are disbarred (Seraph, we barely knew thee. :()

EDIT: Maybe Xavin should be adjusted, Super Skrull is 6 and Xavin is 5 ... considering that at his very best Xavin can only handle two of his powers at once while Super Skrull can use all of them simultaneously AND he's far more experienced in battle, they should be divided by more than just a point IMO. What do you think JD?

The draft will take place here on these boards. The draft will start at a specified time (10 a.m. CST), and if you're here at the time, you can draft live when it's your turn. If you think there's a chance you won't be here, then--beforehand--you'll need to send me a list of characters you want (in descending order) relative to your draft position (i.e. if you're drafting in the tenth slot, then you'll need to send me ten characters, in case nine of those ten get picked before your turn).

We'll draft more than one round a day, as well. So, if you don't think you'll be here for most of the day, then you'll need to send me a LONGER list of picks, so that when it comes time for your turn, you won't be skipped if all the characters you wanted have been drafted by that time.

Oh yea, this League is definetly a lot of fun. Lot of D-List characters with great power sets that can really give you an edge when comboing them with another character. I think that's always really been the key to these Leagues, not who can get the most powerful team, but who can get the team that works really well with each other and feed off the power sets of others. Sentry maybe attractive...but do you really know how to use him?

Oh yea, this League is definetly a lot of fun. Lot of D-List characters with great power sets that can really give you an edge when comboing them with another character. I think that's always really been the key to these Leagues, not who can get the most powerful team, but who can get the team that works really well with each other and feed off the power sets of others. Sentry maybe attractive...but do you really know how to use him?

It's as much catering to them as it is trying to stop your opponent. Hell, sometimes the ignorance of voters is your best weapon. You can do a move w/ a character and if no one challenges it who's to know if it's legit...that's the beauty of these leagues.

Yeah. While a big chunk of it is pandering to the voters, the other part, of course, is voters pandering to the team. 'Fangasms', or however they call it. You lose to a move and you're like, 'ARE YOU SERIOUSLY VOTING FOR THAT?!' Good ol' cliques.

Not so much in my ML matches, of course. Kind of got that feeling from watching the other matches, though.

Anywho. The worst part about going for D-Listers is trying to find relevant information for them. Flaneur did find me some cool stuff, though, so thanks to him! Even if he did kick my ass in ML. But I'm not bitter.......

I'm 11th! I went through characters I would consider to be acceptable as "first choices" in my opinion. There were 10. What a bummer! I just hope that others don't consider all of them their first choices, then I might be lucky and nab one of them first.

I do, however, think I should be able to get my lower-tier choices.
