Recently got the trilogy in one book: Red Rain, Bloodstorm and Crimson Mist and i must say that it is damn good, i'm currently in the middle of Bloodstorm and i must say the writing is excellent.

Though my only complaint so far is that Dracula's character seemed too wooden and underdevelopped, but other than that it's pretty good overall. Anyone else read this Elseworld series?

Yeah, I read it all. My only complain is the gore seems to be more and more over the top with less purpose in each new installement, but still, a good read.

And man, the end to Crimson Mist was depressing.

EDIT: Loved the moment with Batman tricking Dracula with the blood cross, as well as Joker's takeover of the vampire clan.

I've only read the first two volumes, but I found them to be pretty mediocre. I've had the third volume for years, but god knows when/if I'll get around to reading that.

I read them a couple years back i think. I liked the first one, thought the second one was okay and found the third one a little weak.

Well i'm up to roughly the middle of Crimson Mist and i must say, overall i think Bloodstorm is the best.

But there are a few things i really have a problem with in this trilogy.

1. Plotholes, it's never explained what the 'alchemy of blood' was exactly or what the origins of vampires were, nor was there a clear motivation for Dracula, i mean what was causing him to go mad as he drank the blood of those in Gotham?

2. The dialogue was too mellow dramatic, too many times i felt the story was becoming hard to read because it seemed like every line of dialogue was chalk full of mellowdrama.

3. The way certain events occurred didn't seem to make sense, such as the destruction of Wayne manor, the deaths of Tanya and Catwoman, they seemed unnecessary and the character deaths were just thrown in there for extra drama.

4. Joker's hair and Alfred's fat head.

One thing i really did like however was the end of Bloodstorm, the Joker was done very well in this story and the way in which he died and was in this way responsible for driving Batman over the edge was really a very excellent way to show that the Joker won in the end, which made the story all the more tragic.

Most vampire stories don't explain that one.
As for what drove old Vlad mad, this was explained clearly: industrial pollution. He's been drinking chemically polluted blood for a while now, and it's driven him bonkers. It's even set up fairly well with the red rain from the title not being just a snappy title for a vampire story, but actually rain that has turned red because of the industrial filth in it.

Well, that's a common flaw of Doug Moench's scripts. Eventually, I got used to it.

As for Joker's hair, be thankful it's not the reggae hairdo from 'The Batman'. :D

Also, best part of Crimson Mist: Batman putting on the Penguin's monocle after beheading him. LMAO each time I look at it. :p

i found it kind of depressing, to see batman turn into a monster.

I enjoyed these stories. Kelly's depiction of Batman remains one of my favorite 'dark mood' version of the character.

I have the trilogy. It started off well, then declined as it became too mindless and gory...the thing at the end wasn't even Bruce anymore and never took off the costume. I couldn't get into it at that point and no longer cared about the character. Artwork was not to my taste with the 'ugly' Bruce and exaggerations everywhere. Dracula was a cardboard cutout "standard evil powerful vampire."
