You know these controversial figures like Frank Miller or Star Trek's Rick Berman - the ones the fans always complain about online. What happens at sci fi conventions when haters meet them? I have never been to one. Do they ever insult them, or try to physically attack them?

I've heard some assy questions asked to various figures, and ones that may be seen as either condescending or veiled insults, but I've never heard someone apporach an industry pro at a con and straight up say "You're the worst! Die!"

I saw some tool in a homemade Hellboy hockey jersey go up to Grant Morrison and ask "Why did you ruin Beast!" but that might have been the worst.

I've never seen that happen. And I've met John Byrne and Rob Liefeld.

It does happen. Harlan Ellison wrote an essay on it, called Xenogenesis, I believe. There were a bunch of horror stories, including a guy who got a cup full of warm vomit dumped on him. Harlan related a bunch of stories of his own, including his house getting egged, and someone writing a letter to tell him that they were glad that one of Harlan's friends (another author) had died and that there was "one less hack on the planet".

I wish I could remember names.

Wait didn't Warren Ellis almost get attacked physically at a con for killing off some character in Stormwatch?

Isn't Joe Quesada appearing at an upcomming con? I guess we'll find out then.

Wil Wheaton actually has more fans now than when he was on Star Trek. There was this weird hate, and I think he's doing a good job of turning it around and still being able to laugh at Wesley Crusher.

After all this time, Wil Wheaton is finally cool.

But he'd be even cooler if he'd write more in his series of TNG reviews (http://www.tvsquad.com/bloggers/wil-wheaton/)!

Yeah, but he's embracing it. Volunteering for a dunk tank, with the money going to the Hero Initiative.

He also plays Warhammer 40K. I can imagine that a bunch of his new fans are people who played against him (and won).

There's one creator that should I ever go to a Con again I will go out of my way to avoid. I will not name them so their ego will not get larger than it currently is. Those who know me, know of whom I speak.

I would go to his defense, beat up the tool and take his jersey. I don't know who Grant Morrison is, but a Hellboy jersey would be cool, and it would be a good enough excuse to steal it from him :)
