I Have over 3000+ comics, most of them marvel...

But the only experience I have with the character Shuma-Gorath is from the capcom/marvel fighting games in which he was a playable character.

All I know is that he is a Dr. Strange enemy.

Anyone know his origin, powers, first appearance, last appearance?

from Dr. Strange: Sanctum Sanctorum (http://www.docstrange.com/)

Shuma-Gorath was one of the "Old Ones", a hideous malevolent god from the dawn of time (in the grand tradition of the Lovecraftian Cthulhu mythos).

Shuma-Gorath re-entered our world by using the Ancient One as a vehicle. In the classic Marvel Premiere #10, Dr. Strange was forced to end the life of his own beloved master the Ancient One in order to also end the threat of Shuma-Gorath. However, through this sacrifice, the Ancient One (http://www.docstrange.com/profiles/Anctone.asp) was released from his earthly limitations to become One With All.

He also was the main villain during Strange Tales Volume 2 (the part starring Dr. Strange of it at least).

When he fought the wizard Urthona who desired Strange's artifacts, Strange was forced to destroy all his magical artifacts to keep them from falling in the wrong hands (in fact the magical entity Agamotto teleported all the artifacts to his own realm, because he wanted to protect the ones he had created.) (End of Dr. Strange volume 1 (or 2, not sure))

The destruction of the artifacts meant that many protective spells that protected Earth were no longer in place. This enabled many demonic and alien entities to invade Earth and Strange was forced to turn to black magic to repel them. Most powerful among them was Shuma-Gorath.

And Finally Shuma Gorath, Marvel Premiere #10

This is my single favorite comic of all time of anywhere. Marvel Premiere #10
Englehart and Brunner and the death of the Ancient one in a truly cosmically trippy battle.

Shuma Gorath absorbs magical energy and is the diametric opposite of this plane's sorcerer supreme. He leeched energy from the Ancient One driving him to fast himself to death. Doc eventually travelled inside the Ancient One's mind and into his very concept of self to do battle . . .

You destroyed my concept of self and so destroyed my concept of what was not myself ... (or sumpthin like that)

Would Shuma-Gorath be considered an Elder God?

I wonder why out of all the villians in the MU that Capcom picked such an obscure character as Shuma Freaking Gorath.
