While I love almost anything Hostess, I have to go with the orange flavor cupcakes.

The various fruit pies are right behind them though.

I never liked the Hostess snack cakes. Little Debbie's where it's at for me.

Never liked Hostess. I am all about the Drakes Cakes. Unfortunately, there are whole portions of the country that do not have Drakes Cakes, like where I went to college. You can't beat a Yodel though.

Drakes and Hostess are actually owned by the same company now--Interstate Bakeries Corporation. Still, they seem to maintain their separate lines.
Little Debbie stuff always seemed cheap to me. And I don't mean "more affordable".
The classis Drake's Coffee Cakes were always my favorites.

They don't have Tastykake out here. :( That was one of the saddest things about moving to Ohio. I lost my Tastykake, my Herr's, and my Wise potato chips.

And good luck gettin' a decent soft pretzel or cheesesteak out here. :evilangry There's one deli in this entire fuckin' craphole of a city that makes something even kind of decent.

Agreed. You can chomp them up in a couple of bites, or you can unravel them slowly and savor the experience. It's a snack... And a dilemma!

(Somewhat OT) I used to work near a Hostess bakery and I could always use the place as a barometer of how hungry I was at any given time: If it smelled like food, I was REALLY hungry; if it smelled cloyingly sweet, I wasn't.
OTOH, every couple of years I have the urge to have a Hostess Sno-Ball.

I'd most agree with this if I had not gone away to university to experience all that was the delicious Tastykake!! Which has beaten anything I've even eaten from Drake's or Hostess. :)

There's Little Debbie, some of them are good.

I used to buy the honey buns a lot. but now I cant look at them without felling sick.
To me it's Vachon.

I've never had Drakes or Tastykake, and I'm not a huge Hostess fan, but when I was a kid, I liked the ding-dongs. Man, that sounds weird out of context.

I think it actually sounds terrible out of context. Either you were a fluzee or there were some repressed memories involved....

I hate to add to the strange tone of this conversation, but I always had a real love for Ding Dongs too.

Anything that goes well with coffee. :)
But I had a friend of mine in elementary school used to believe that eating anything red made her hyper, and she was quite fond of the Sno Balls.
Well, pink was close enough.

So here's to nostalgia :)
I dream of you, and we talk of growing old. But you say please don't....
I've never had Drakes or Tastykake
unfortunately, the only amazing tastykake I ever had was in PA (where they're made fresh, obviously). If you ever visit, get one. They're a moist delicious treat! :)

Actually, on reflection, the real "contest" in my neck of the woods was never between Tastycake vs. Little Debbie, or Hostess vs. Drake's. It was more of an Entenmann's vs. Freihofer's battle to the death. Always located on opposing endcaps in the Supermarket, just an arms' length away from each other, they battled with very similar products, both at a level slightly "above" the "Snack Cake" level of Twinkies and Ring Dings and such. These were true cakes, albeit squished into standardized boxes, and donuts, and the like, and considered much higher "fare" by everyone I knew.
Entenmann's

Freihofer's

Then, around the corner, were the Stella D'Oros, although those were more premium cookies than anything else.
These puppies, the Stella D'Oro Swiss Fudge Cookies, are the king of that coop:

Actually, come to think of it, Entenmann's has cookies too--and good ones:
