I'm considering getting Final Crisis in May but I've not read any of the other Crisis stories. Will I have needed to read these to follow what's going on in Final Crisis or would a newbie be able to follow it?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you needed to have read the other Crisis stories at all. I never read Crisis on Infinite Earths before reading Infinite Crisis so you should be fine. Plus I keep hearing how self contained it will be so that's another plus.

Still it's a bit too early to comment on the story itself so just wait until the first issue, give it a read and see where it goes from there.

That's a good idea. I'll order the first ish and see how I go.

Yeah. Infinite and the original Crisis, I believe can be read seperately. Different generations, different ideas.

The ideas part is what scares me about Grant Morrison's involvement, exciting me equally.

AND J.G. Jones. Damn. Always a plus.

I honestly don't know. It seems like it's more connected to old Kirby stuff and Seven Soldiers then the previous Crisis books.

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: Yes indeed.

I would say dont read final crisis. Grant Morrions big seven soldiers story was hard to understand if you didnt read many of the mini series that were released. I expect the same problem here. It will no doubt be bogged down in heavy continuity. Just come back when Final Crisis is over.

As long as you don't expect to understand everything right away and are willing to do a little searching through Wikipediea on the characters you didn't understand, I think you'll be fine.

Morrison tends to write very complex stories. But the complexity makes them better.

You should definitely pick up DC Universe #0 for 50 cents though. That book is designed as a new reader entry point for Final Crisis. It sets up everything you need to know.

Eff Countdown.

From what I can tell, it's an editorial abomination and has been since it's launch.

Final Crisis has he potential to be something grand, only dependiing on how tight one is to the DCU. Grant Morrisson and J.G. Jones - - DAMN.

Eh... if it's a good story it shouldn't matter.

Believe me, I agree a thousand times.

That's why I loved comcs - because it's about the story.

It's not about that anymore.
