I saw someone put a quote in their signature. Less than an hour later, I tried to do the same and found that it is now impossible. I have finished crying now and blowing my nose, so I wanted to know if this feature was intentionally blocked and why. Thankies.

Block quotes in signatures was turned off by the admins a few months back because some people were over using it and making their signatures huge.

Then how are some people still adding them?

From my understanding is that if a poster used a quote before the change was in place, you can edit the quote and still use it. But it someone tries to add a quote, then they can not.

A few days ago I saw someone add a quote that was posted the same day

Did they have a quote in place before? If so, they could have just edited the quote. If not, then something is wrong.

Brandon, I have a feeling it's a COTM thing*. I can still add images too. (I just checked, and yep. I can add quotes.)

Thanks I'll give the admins a heads up.

:sniff:

You children run along now. I must have my monocle re-sized presently.

No one should be able to use quotes in signatures or upload images into signatures now.

And here I thought that it was a bit of a gift to COTM folks.

Of course, I've never had anything in my sig, but now I can't even dream. :(

Why not just set a character limit for signatures or something?

There already is one. Quotes is (or was) a way of doing an end run around it.

I just wanted to post because there aren't enough "Matt"s in the thread.

And quoting in sigs isn't really a big deal. You can still quote someone artificially, and I guess without getting around any character limits.

*looks around* Crap, we're outnumbered by Matts!

I think it's 500 characters. It'd be pretty easy to check, but I'm lazy.

Since no one asked, I think it'd be more effective to have a height limit than a character limit. I'm not sure how doable that is, though.

I just added a quote yesterday. Did I err?

No, only if it appears in a quote box, like:

Here appears the quote.

But your quotes have the following form, which is allowed:

'Here appears the quote.'
-Poster A

And your quotes weren't taken from posters, which is a minor but significant point in this matter. I mean, you could (previously) wrap quote tags around a quote you took from outside the forum, but now it should be impossible to have a quote in a quote box in your sig.

So, you didn't do anything wrong. At all.

No, no. We're talking about the boxed quotes like I just did yours. They used to be allowed in signatures.

And a Tom Servo quote is never a bad thing. To wit: "You're all evil and I hope you all have snacks."

See?
