Mary, Holly, and Harley find the prison of the greek gods. Mary calls the lightning and turns into her original mary marvel form, not the black adam form. This free's the Gods. Harley gets angry when only Mary is thinked. So Artemis grants Holly powers and Hera grants Harley powers in which to fight the Gods of Apokalips.

Karate Kid trys to get through the the Omac infected Una, Red Robin swings in and trys to destroy the Omac but Val stops him, Red Robin gets fed up and swings away. The Omac can't infect Val so it decides to perform an autopsy to see why.

Mary, Holly, and Harley ambush Granny Goodness and a bunch of soldiers. they kill the soldiers and chase Granny away. Granny runs into the New Gods Killer and is incenerated (Her soul doesn't get taken which is odd), Mary, Holly, and Harley soon run into Donna, Kyle, and Ray.

Piper is soon revealed to be brought to Apokalips by Desaad. It's revealed that Pipers flute was created on Apokalips. Desaad wants Piper to play the flute, but they're soon knocked off their feet by an earthquake.

The last page reveals that Brother Eye has taken over Apokalips. In a sense he is the Planet now

Too bad it doesn't make a lick of !@#$ing sense. Hartley's supposed to be a genius, and he invented his flute himself. And how the hell is he connected to the Anti-Life Equation? I mean, the idea of Anti-Life is control over free will, sure, and Piper can control people's minds with his music, but if you stretch out any sort of mind control powers into Anti-Life it gets a bit ridiculous, with Pied Piper controlling Anti-Life probably being the most ridiculous.

Mary's back, though? Neat. And what powers did Harley and Holly get? I'd assume if Artemis gave Holly powers, they were hunting powers, but what would Hera give Harley?

Harley recieved enhanced cunning and the ability to wield a giant hammer from Thalia, Muse of Comedy. Holly recieved a bow and arrows, increased marksmanship and strength, a 'catlike' hunting form and a terrible hairstyle from Diana (the Roman version of Artemis).

I don't think the flute is from apocalypse whatsoever. Desaad just said that Piper could channel the anti-life equation in a unique way. The handcuff piper was wearing was based on Apokalypse tech.

Man Countdown lately has been having such sporadic quality and pacing. I think if you combined the last 3 issues it would be a great deal more satisfying than in the doses we have so far.

Anyway this was a good week of Countdown for me, for one I loved Scott Kolins's art on this and I love all of his depictions of characters like Mary Marvel, Red Robin, OMAC's, etc. He also continues to self ink his work and isn't leaving the colorists to do simple fill in color (which I also liked) so it's nice to see him try a different approach. I somehow knew Brother Eye was going to integrate itself with Apokalips tech and become something more, I wonder where they're going with it.

It was interesting and cool to see Holly and Harley gain powers and especially Mary now that they're given to her by the greek gods. Apparently the whole Countdown journey was a trial thing for Mary which is interesting in retrospect so I'll re-read her parts more carefully even though I didn't care for them at all initially. I was happy to see the Greek Gods again and seeing how they were contained, and yes finally Granny is dead! I was just waiting for that to happen finally so we could move on from the last few living New Gods.

The Pied Piper able to channel the anti-life equation is um, interesting as well. Not that it really amounted to anything but having Desaad get killed somewhere down the line but I didn't know he had the potential to do that. I'm wondering where they're going to ultimately go with that.

I'm really going to miss his work at Marvel but I'm also really glad he's back at DC where they'll actually know how to use him rather than give him incompatible writers or odd jobs.

Anyone happen to know what Desaad had in his hand? Looked like he was trying to use the Piper's "Anti-Life playing" for his own purposes, but was rocked by Brother I before that.

And I guess I'm not as fond of Scott's art like other people's on here. There are times when it's alright, other times it appears to scratched together and messy to me.

It could have been and i wanted it to be but it wasnt big action at all, it was 5 pages. should have been the entire book. Sadly we are left hanging wondering if Superman Prime has absorbed monarchs powers or if he is dead/alive somewhere.

Mostly. I skipped some issues at the start, but from 26 on I've read it all.

No it doesn't. The "fight" was all of 2-3 pages and has no resolution. And if that's the only big piece of action in 50 issues, that's just sad.

Exactly. It's been nothing but setup until now, and now we have...more setup. Where's the climax? Is it going to be in issue #2 with the rest of the story crammed into #1?

Im expecting the pace to pick up dramatically over the next 9 issues, if not 52 has been a wash. The first few issues were good. I enjoyed the search for ray palmer Red Rain, Gotham by Gaslight and Red Son issues. As a whole though Countdown thus far has been confusing the continuity of other books for me, it ruined the Sinestro Corps Wars' flow (having kyle appear in countdown while he is still Paralax in Lantern for 2 more issues is just bad), and it has taken a character i really enjoy hating (Superman Prime) made him all powerful without much explanation and then hes out of the story just as quickly as he got into it.

If it doesnt get really good in 9 issues then DC blew it. 52 wasnt stellar every week, but over all a vast majority of the issues were good. I cant say the same for countdown.

If I remember rightly, Pam gave Harley a potion which made her immune to most toxins, it also slightly increased her strength and agility . Nothing that would keep the majority of Metas up at night.

I was expecting so much more. With Granny and Desaad, I want long drawn out deaths kind of as a payback for all the years they've done nothing but bring pain to everyone. Just frying her in an instant...kind of a let down to me. It was nice to see the look on her face, but i was really hoping for her to feel the pain...
