Well, now....
Orion fights an enraged Mr. Miracle, but when forced to reveal the truth he says he's not the killer but merely was acting as bait to lure the killer out
Himon goes to tend with "personal business"
Orion sees the killer coming and blasts off after him, only to discover - as he heads into an energy form beyond anything he could ever deal with - that it's not the Infinity Man at all
Superman and Mr. Miracle rush to Orion's aid (they were told earlier to leave the fight to Orion) only to be overcome with a supernova: the death of Orion.
back on Apokolips, Darkseid reachs out and feels the death of his son: "Finally, our joined story has reached its end."
Himon returns to New Genesis, where he speaks in an almost religious-overtoned voice and sets off a bright explosion - presumably killing what's left of New Genesis's high council (the Commander and Teledar) I guess?
Superman and Mr. Miracle, after finding Orion's charred helmet drifting in space, retreat to a safe distance, and discover the 2nd Source Wall
as they do, Himon approaches - hands engulfed in energy and speaking with the same font that the Source speaks with - presumably, he is our New Gods killer.
I'm not really buying Himon as the killer. More, perhaps, as a tool the Source has been using to achieve certain gains. Either that, or Starlin went back, fixed some of the connections that revealed Infinity Man as the killer (he went on record as being peeved IM's identity was leaked in BIRDS OF PREY back when Knockout was killed) and put some last-minute plot points in that made Himon look guilty.
I mean, in this issue he literally leaves to attend to "personal business" (killing Orion, I presume) and then returns to (I think) blow up the Commander, before showing up at the 2nd Source Wall - something presumably only Himon knew about (Metron knows but he's hangin' with the Source, and Takion, who......well, ended up as worm food moments later)
Plot unevenness aside, though, a decent issue.
Not even shocked to see Orion die before the tale ends: as he says, "he's a warrior not a detective." And I guess his fate was sealed when this became a unsolved mystery tale....
