YIPES.
They keep saying this is the best batch of talent ever, but you sure couldn't tell by the boy's first night!
That Elvis thing, Jailhouse Rock, was EXCRUTIATING. It was totally hatefully awful. There are at least three guys who don't belong on a stage at all, let alone the most popular show in America.
I see three standouts, but I don't know their names yet, so bear with me.
That seventeen year old kid, man, he is astounding. I don't know that I'd want an album by him, but what an instrument he has!
Then I loved Dreadlock guy who did 'Daydream.' He was actually my favorite of the night. I thought he had something quite original.
And finally, Australia boy who sang Light My Fire in a way that I didn't totally hate! Amazing!
But what about thin voice man, and boring Moon River dude, and creepy Leif Garrett boy?
YIKEYS!

Yeah, I didn't get how this is the best group ever either. I barely remember any of the performances.
I like Dreadlock guy and Australia boy too. I don't remember the seventeen year old. Maybe I missed his performance.
Creepy Leif Garrett boy was awful, but I fear he will be on the show until the semi finals. He's got that teen idol appeal that seems to far outweigh talent.

I predict Leif Garrett Lad is the next Sanjaya. The tween girl mafia will make it happen.
Moon River guy made me feel like I was watching Lawrence Welk with my grandparents. Plus his hair offends me.
I agree with your choices and add one more: David Cook. He sang Happy Together and rocked it hard.

I think some of them just had really really poor song choices. You would think that people would learn after 6 seasons that you DON'T sing a slow song (especially in these early rounds), unless you can make it amazing and unique. Otherwise it just comes off as boring and forgettable. Also, you would think people would learn by now, that doing a song by an iconic performer (ala Elvis) you have to switch it up a bit in the arrangement or else you are just going to be a karaoke version of said artist. I mean Jesus, have these people seen the show?
VoteForTheWorst.com (http://votefortheworst.com/) has decided on the "Jailhouse Rock" kid as their man. They call him "Fierce and Fabulous."

That would be, in order, David Archuleta, Jason Castro and Michael Johns. And it's funny you mention those three- those were my wife's three favorites.
I'm really interested to see how the Carly Smithson/Michael Johns (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/WinterConcert/story?id=4315159) controversy turns out. You would think by now, the producers of the show would check into their backgrounds more carefully. Or maybe they didn't care?

Yes, I liked that a lot, especially the way he built the song. And nice choice, too.
I noticed most of these guys are young, pretty, pretty boys, save for the one rocker guy. Even Cook looks young, though he's older than the rest. I wonder if Idol did that deliberately. Probably.

It's not against the rules to have worked or even to be working as a professional singer. They even can have had a recording contract in the past. Kelly Clarkson did, many others from seasons past did too. They just can't currently be under contract anywhere to be on the show.
That "no pro" thing...that's all a misconception created by the fans.

That one guy I believe who is 28 did very well. He had a good voice. But at the moment AI is in some hard trouble. Last years winner was bounced from their label as was the 2nd place person. So they gotta hope whoever wins this year can sell some albums.

Um...none of that is true. The Jordin Sparks album has done fairly well with a single or two in the top ten. Blake Lewis is still making his album but a single from it sold really well off of i-Tunes.

Nope. Danny was by far the most entertaining performer of the night. Between his crazed version of Jailhouse Rock and his ubber bitchy head snap "some people weren't LIKE-in' it" he stole that show. That "no pro" thing...that's all a misconception created by the fans.
Actually it is a misconception created by the judges/producers. Every year they ask people "do you think you are America's best undiscovered talent?" Of course this year where around half the top 24 could never be considered undiscovered they didn't ask anyone it.
Um...none of that is true. The Jordin Sparks album has done fairly well with a single or two in the top ten. Blake Lewis is still making his album but a single from it sold really well off of i-Tunes.
Jordin Sparks had the weakest ever American Idol debut album and has barely sold over 500,000 copies world wide. He single did nothing for a long time, bounced to number 8 and then slid back into nothing.
And itunes isn't exactly the best indicator of something's popularity. Paris Hilton's single sold extremely well digitally despite getting almost no radio/video play.
Corrina
02-20-2008, 05:23 PM
Also, they're making so much money from Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry that they don't really need the winners to be the one who sells--they just need someone.
Not to mention that the show itself makes money faster than anything on TV.

Pretty much true. Its this bad...the label wasn't pleased with Taylor Hicks selling over Gold and bounced him this past year. I mixed him and Sparks up...but ya get the hint. Sales for the AI winners and followup people haven't been good.
And labels aren't in a good position now with digital downloading and all. So they won't take a chance and some have an album or 2 to develope a following now.

Vote for the Worst picks the person who is most entertaining, and whom the producers least want to move on. Not the person who is the worst singer. It is the worst person from the producers viewpoint.
Anywho can we talk about how gay this season is? It is fabulous and fierce and can't be shoved into the closet no matter how much they want it to be.

They need a Plantinum selling artist. Someone who can sell a million albums. The success stories seem to be :
Clay Aiken
Carrie Underwood
Kelly Clarkson
Chris Daughtry
Ruban Studdard (before his label dropped him)
Thus far heres the lowdown on the last 2-3 years...
Jordin Sparks: 600,000 albums sold thus far.
Blake Lewis: 258,000 albums sold. Lewis holds a record on Billboard for AI people. His album was the fastest to drop outta the top 200 album chart by someone in AI .
Taylor Hicks: 700,000 copies sold. The label shipped over 1 million copies though to make the album go platinum though in some weird way. Dropped from label.
Karine McPhee: Came in #2 to Hicks. Album failed to reach Gold Status. Dropped from label.
Kellie Pickler: Has sold 710,000 of her country album. To go Gold.
Bucky Covington : Also went country. His album has only sold 326,000 copies. Will have his song become the main advertising jingle for Nascar 2008 though.
Elliot Yamin : Has sold over 489,000 copies to go Gold.

Bobby Bones was discussing it this morning (he's based in Austin these days, and he's the best morning show in town. . so we had it on).
they (Bobby, Lunchbox, Carlos, and Amy) discussed, and decided that at least 7 of the 12 are gay!
of course, homophobe Lunchbox wanted to take bets how long it would be until Danny and the other flaming kid (the one who ALSO did Elvis) hooked up and had a romance on the show. Stupid Lunchbox. . the flaming ones tend not to hook up w/ each other!
any queer knows that!

Oh, I have ;)
and I have many, many FLAMING friends. . but not one of them has hooked up w/ a nellie partner.
one of them is always way more "straight-acting" than the other. All the truly flaming ones, have BEST BUDDIES whom are exactly like them. . but not partners.

Maybe, and just maybe, this wouldn't happen if the record label stop trying to use them to hawk really shitty radio-friendly music with no substance.

I think it's the worst 24 by a wide margin.
With the girls, they seemed to go almost totally for looks. Even the heavy girl is a model.
And a BUNCH of the performances were totally dull and amateurish.
I think that Simone was wrong about the girl who sang Three Dog Night. She had a lot of charisma, I thought.

Yeah, Kelly had aworked with Carole King's ex husband,Garry Goffin. Don't think any of the recordings they made ever got released though.
And "Happy together" guy openly said on the show that his teenie bopper band opened for Britney Spears. I doubt they didn't have a product out, either, then.

Germany picked an openly gay man last season, and a an openly lesbian woman the one before. We just picked this year's finalists, and I am expecting a few coming outs there, too.

While I love David Archuleta, the 17 year old guy, I think his youth and inexperience will keep him from winning. I think for the guys it's Jason, the dreadlock guy who is gonna make it.
Out of the girls, I think Syesha Mercado is the best!
