I almost pass this movie on theatre because most of the reviews was negative. But I took a chance and saw it this evening. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't mindbreaking or anything, but I was entertained the whole movie.
The story and characters were stereotypical, but the powers were cool, and it was fun seeing the Jumpers use their powers.
Of the actors, I know they were playing stereotypes but I thought it was good. It helps that Rachel Bilson is so hot to play the hero girlfriend. Sam L. Jackson worked as best as he could with the lines he was given, but Jamie Bell was the pick of the bunch as the weary and experienced Jumper. The bad thing was Hayden Christensen. Every time he appeared on screen I kept thinking "Oh Anakin, but this time, he's a good guy".
Enjoyable, but I wouldn't seeing this again on theatre. 7/10
Your thoughts?

I think I'll probably rent it, because Doug Liman has pretty good record in my book. But I'm so freakin' sick of seeing the promotions, I might wait for a rental or cable. Although, the chance watch Mace get his revenge is certainly appealing...

Not wanting to give anything away but if the latter is what your looking for then you may be dissapointed.
Atleast Sam didn't get killed, so that is saying something.
It's worth considering buying it on DVD but I wouldn't watch it again at theaters though. It does actually show some interesting ways on how teleporters use their powers.

Does Jumpscars have any relevance in the film?

I felt it had a lot of potential, but I was severely underwhelmed with the execution.

Man, this movie looked so cool, but I should have known it'd suck. Well, I took a chance and man did it ever stink.

The movie felt rushed and the action seens weren't really all that. If thare is a positive side to it I may consider picking up the book to see if the book is ten times better than the film.

I remember enjoying the original book, but I'm not gonna bother seeing this. They've changed the story too much.

It sucked.
Jamie Bell was excellent but the ending. Ugh. Looked pretty but that was it. It doesn't help that Hayden can't act his way out of a paper bag.

I really don't see how anyone can say it sucked. The leads had Chemistry, Sam looked cool, the action was fun, the effects were great, the visuals were stunning and even with some plot holes everything I listed above made you want to just ignore them.
Rachael and Christisan(sp) had plenty of chemistry which made it more believable then it had some right to be.
Overall it was a really fun movie which left two giant openings for a movie that could hold well on its own without a sequel but is one of the only movies that doesn't need a sequel that should have a sequel.
and while I have no doubt it lost to spiderwick cause thats a kid movie and even if they suck they are always #1 but I hope at #2 it does well enough for at least the thought.

I just came back from seeing Jumper and you know what, it is absolute garbage from start to finish. Honestly, I think the only way you could enjoy this half-baked, ill-concieved nonsense is if you get your brain removed before going into the cinema. It is one of those movies where you walk out thinking that the filmmakers put next to no thought in writing it; it has plot wholes large enough to slide whole solar systems through.
Then there is Hayden Christensen's atrocious performance. I like Jaime Bell and Rachel Bilson very much (though they're both far better in other things) and Samuel L Jackson is fun even if he clearly phones in the whole thing but Christensen, the lead "actor" of the film, is beyond horrible. I was OK with him in Star Wars III but that's because he really just had to walk around and look evil (which was mainly done, it should be said, by those weird contact lenses) but he is a completely unengaging lead and his emotional versatility clearly comes from the Steven Seagal school of acting. Oh yeah, and I think he and Rachel Bilson had no chemistry whatsoever, which isn't helped by her severly under-written character.
It had very little in the way of a story, weak characters and largely seemed to exist to set up the sequel.
It's rubbish.

Ironic, considering they're reportedly an item in real life .

Too many holes. I had to cover more plot holes in my suspension of disbelief in this movie than I had to in Live Free or Die Hard, and Bruce Willis killed a helicopter with a police car in that one.
You figure it out.

The book is an excellent read. I recommend it highly, and I think a pretty good movie could have been made of the book.
Unfortunately, from what I see from the previews and reviews, it appears the only things taken from the book were the title, the concept of teleportation and some character names.
Quite a shame, really.

I may have to track the book down. I rather enjoyed a very nice light series from back around 25 years ago, called the Journeys of McGill Feighan by Kevin O'Donnell that used the exact idea. I understand the 5th book is in progress at the moment.

Did anyone notice how they kept dropping the Marvel name?? I really want to know what that is about. Is it possible to go from movie to comic...or is that just absurd!

I agree. I enjoyed the movie the entire time. I wouldn't see it twice at the movies, but I know I'm planning on seeing it again some time.

As an aside to the topic of books about teleportation... Fifty years on, nobody's ever topped The Stars My Destination.
