Shatterstar and Rictor, they had potential for a lot of depth to their relationship. It mirrored many "straight" acting gay and bisexual men who have to keep their relationships quiet for one reason or another. An of course there's the potential for the gay Multiple Man dupe to get some action in there as well ;)
I also have love for Firestar and Justice. These two both have been through the wringer and I would love to see them in leadership roles together now that they are older. They have Scott and Jean potential I think. They are the quintessential Gen X lovers.
I also miss Rusty and Skids, they had a playful quality together.

Rogue and Remy without a doubt, as they are by far the most fan hated couple ever. :confused: which confuses the hell out of me since I can see no wrong in this relationship, they might as well have been made for one another.

What's confusing about it? The relationship might be great in theory, but in practice, it turned into an endless angst fest that sucked the life and charm out of both characters. Gambit lost his teeth and Rogue lost her spunk. It was pure poison.

Guess what? Love changes people, also despite it not being exuded by the participants (Rogue and Remy) other people/things can sometimes makes relationships troublesome but unlike real life guess who's fault that is. If you said the writers then you'd get an A+.

Not really. PAD basically confirmed off panel that he is bisexual, might as well show that potential. If they are going to make him bisexual, it should be apart of his character, instead of "oh yeah, he is attracted to both, but you will never see him in a gay relationship."

Exactly. Shatterstar was a fashion disaster. Homophobia aside (because it is irrelevant), I don't know how Rictor could be seen holding hands with anyone who would make those sartorial choices.

Uh, yeah, but when the people in question are characters that are supposed to entertain us and love turns them into angst-ridden, humorless and charmless shadows of their former selves, it's time to either remove that love or kill off the characters. This isn't real life.

Saying that it's the writers' fault is kinda useless at this point. The romance has been going on for about a decade and it went the way it went, looks the way it looks. They've had their chance and their relationship ended up being defined by angst and whining and trust issues. Which makes sense, because the whole point of Gambit is that he's an untrustworthy sneak who always has an agenda of his own. A poor match for Rogue and all her insecurities.
Even if some writer decided that they would work it out and get back together and Gambit would be happy and housebroken, it wouldn't take long before another writer would want to start the drama again.

Where the triple-h did all this Rictor / Shatterstar slashiness come from in the first place? If there is anyone Shatterstar should be with, it should be with Maria , he was apparently the only one who could put her in a state of heat ( ala Jimmy and Hepzibah) and they were practically on their way to becoming a couple already when Fabian Nicieza busted them by making her defect to the MLF. His enraged anger at her betrayal during her recapture by x-force indeed proved that he shared feelings for her too, which was noted by Sammy at that time. And Julio and Rahne forever, it's been already over 2 decades already in the making...

Where the quadruple-h have you been, Comeback? Rictor & Shatterstar have been insinuated/alluded to as lovers for some while (ever since they left X-force sometime in the 90s to explore something or other).

How is saying its the writers fault pointless? Who else comes up with the stories? Who else writes the dialog? Clearly im missing something. When a story and characters there in suck. Then it must be someone elses fault but who? Perhaps its the fans, yes truly the fans must suck, some how the whine until the stink of it reaches the high heavens and the powers that be bend reality until they think the fans are being so unreasonable they decide to say screw it and screw whatever it is they wanted. Clearly thats how the romance in all of comicdom will end.

Did you even read my post? All romance in comicdom? I'm talking about Romy, which has over 10 years of disastrous, annoying, angsty continuity bogging it down. When a couple has been written a certain way for over 10 years, that does leave a lot of baggage whether you want to admit it or not. You can't just suddenly up and write it as something healthy and happy and wonderful as though all those past years never were. You practically admitted yourself that Romy has changed both characters and it's blatantly obvious that it's not for the better in either case. Gambit is now angsty emoboy and Rogue is angsty emogirl. The traits that made them special have been removed in the name of Luv.

Gambit as a character is ALWAYS going to suffer in a steady, happy relationship, because his character template, the very core of what he is about, what distinguishes him from other characters, is that he's NOT steady. At all. Make him that way and poof, his story is over. He's just a guy who throws cards. There's no longer a point to Gambit.
That's what gave the pairing its spark at first, all the conflict emerging from his rebellious nature and her powers. Stories are made out of conflict, and thus, a lot of effort was put into it BECAUSE it was the Pairing That Couldn't Be. Writers loved it.
But you can't do that forever. At this point, people are sick of it. Romy is a past chapter, its story is done. It was a very long one and it's time to move on.

The sad thing is that I had classmates that would have fit right in with their looks. It was supposed to be the teen rebel look.

And of course Ric is different. He's always been screwy but losing his powers seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back. That and Rahne left him again because of one of those damn Summers brothers. Poor, poor Julio.
