The Marvel.com Secret Cabal is back with our top ten Marvel couples, just in time for Valentine's Day.

As with most of our lists, I'm sure this one will spark discussion...

Wow. Kitty Pryde and Colossus on number one is something I didn't see coming.

I'm surpirsed Luke Cage and Jessica Jones aren't there.

How are Reed and Sue not #1? Of all the couples on the list, they're the ones who have gone the distance.

wow, this whole listing of stuff has definately been X-men specific but Colossus and Kitty ahead of Reed and Sue, you have got to be kidding me.

and two of Cyclops relationships ahead of Sharon and Cap? seriously? you are telling me a controlling dominating strictly physical for the need of being physical relationship of Emma and Scott is on par with the equal pairing of Sharon and Cap? and we wont even go into the garbage about Gwen ahead of MJ. This is a girl who basically is the first comic book slut, at different point in time she has hooked up with both osbornes, flash, spidey and probably a teacher or two.

Shadowcat and Colossus?? RLY????

Sue and Reed should definitely be on it.

What about Storm and BP? or Wiccan and Hulkling (I imagine they have it tough and are making it a go).

Shadowcat and Colossus?? RLY????

Yeah, I'm extremely surprised. It seems like sex played a lot into the listings, as Gwen the Slut ranked ahead of MJ and Kitty "Take Me Piotr!" Pryde got the number one spot ahead of Reed and Sue.

After OMD, I would look elsewhere for happy comic book marriages.

How do you not put Reed and Sue at #1? Kitty and Colossus? Seriously?

Uh...

My top 3 are:

Reed/Sue
Peter/MJ
Scott/Jean

My personal favorite is Scott/Jean.

Spidey and MJ 6th?? I wonder why that is.
Probably because Joe Quesada wasn't very fond of their relationship. Though, to me, it seemed like they were the one couple that I felt were believable together in their situation, and they worked hard to make it work.

What about Storm and BP? or Wiccan and Hulkling (I imagine they have it tough and are making it a go).
Storm and Black Panther are still fairly fresh as a couple. They've had their stuff over the years, but they only in the past few years got married. And, as always, Storm is generally shown as a supporting character, and never the full-fledged Goddess that she should be (though I may be biased in my love for her). With Wiccan and Hulkling, their entire relationship is fairly fresh. And they are from a series that had been canceled (though I am very glad that it's returned!). But mostly, I don't think that the bulk of Marvel readers are quite ready to accept a gay couple as one of their top ten couples. I'd personally love to see it, as a gay man myself. But I know that there is still some time before characters like Wiccan and Hulkling and Karolina and Xavin can make it to that level. They are all still new characters, and teenagers. Their relationships haven't had the time to build in the collective consciousness of Marvel fans.

Well, this is a list by a buncha folks that work at Marvel, so opinions will vary.
Its nothing "official". Its all in fun.

Scott and Jean are of course Marvels greatest couple.

Marvel cant get enough of that Issue 500 cover can they? (It's about the only good thing about the issue besides Future Spidey's graveyard battle)

Nice description of the marraige all the same. It's placing doesnt jar me. So long as they slam a Mackie storyline I'm happy:cool:

Sad to see DD and Karen arent in there...considering their relationship consists of a dosen backstabbings and repentences, they allowed ELECKTRA in there.

I was being sarcastic. I actually think MJ and Pete were place so low because of the current OMD event. Much as the same as Quasar was not on the Cosmic list and Warlock (not adam) was.

Too bad Colossus is totally a Skrull.

I really haven't agreed with any of these Marvel Top 10's. This one especially, but then again I am funny with couples in comics. I can't believe Jan and Hank aren't on that list and Scott and Emma are. There is no justice!

I enjoy these lists; they're a fun mix of fannish picks and "promote whatever's happening right now".

No way do Kitty and Colossus beat Reed and Sue (I don't think I'd even put them in the top ten).

Wait a minute. They actually picked the child molestation couple as their #1. Bwahahahahahahaha! The X-verse is my first comic love so don't get me wrong but Peter was 18 and Kitty was 13 when they first started making googly eyes at each other. Now apparently they didn't have sex until later but they did enough kissing and petting that Peter still would have been arrested as a child molestor in the real world.

Beyond that the list is just bunk. Putting Peter and Mary Jane at #6 is just ridiculous since they clearly are top two. And then not putting the whole Mephisto mess as the lowlight of their marriage is just plain silly.

Chiasm
02-13-2008, 05:35 PM
As the lowlights, they got those all wrong on others too.

Take Cyclops and Jean Grey for instance. I'd say Scott abandoning his wife, Madelyne, and baby to run back to Jean is pretty low. Scott have a telepathic affair with Psylocke (or was it Kwannon - its been a while) was pretty low. So was Scott having a telepathic affair with Emma. Scott is just basically a serial cheater. Now that he's with Emma he's always thinking of Jean.

I'm okay with the list except for the rankings of Reed/Sue and Peter/M.J. I love Kitty and Peter as a couple, but even I don't think they should be at the top. But it did include Vision and the Scarlet Witch, my old favorite couple.

In defense of Colossus, he was the only one who seemed concerned about the age difference between him and Kitty in their early years as a couple. He even refused her when she begged him to have sex with her when they thought they were dying in deep space.

Personal preferences aside (were it my list, it'd be loaded with X-Couples, as I'm an X-whore), I find it hard to swallow anyone but Reed & Sue being number one. They're the Marvel couple.

thats just bad writing then, Professor X, Jean Grey and even Logan all should have said something about the age difference.

Wow, talk about a way to kick the fans while they are down. Putting Gwen ahead of MJ? That's not only cold but pretty damn mean-spirited. I thought they wanted to put the OMD thing behind them and look to the future? This is pretty disrespectful to the fans you're trying to win over...

It has also been pointed out to me that Cloak and Dagger deserve to be on this list before Justice and Firestar. I wholeheartedly agree.

Agreed on both counts. I'm a little baffled at there method of picking. Who decided that Kitty and Peter were somehow a better couple then anyone else on this list? They don't even beat Jean and Scott in my book...

Ah...your wrong on two of those.

Scott didn't run back to Jean. He ran back to X-Factor. Him and Jean didn't get back together till the 30's.

Also Scott never had a telepathic affair with Psylocke. She kissed him and it was later found that she was influencing him through TP.

He's not a serial cheater. That's a misconception.

Colossuss and Kitty Pryde No 1. WTF?!?!?
Most of them I agree with but I do think that DD and Karen Page should be there along with DD and Elektra. It was nice to see Justice and Firestar there too, (sigh) i miss Firestar.

Neither here nor there, but my Marvel Comics Page-a-Day Calendar has Mary Jane (the classic Romita image) as its February 14th selection this morning. Evidently someone connected with Marvel thinks she ranks pretty highly.

As much as I dislike Reed/Sue they should be #1. Kitty and Piotr are way to high. C'mon what's so special in this couple? And MJ/Peter lower than Gwen/Peter? You've gotta be kidding me. This is getting ridiculous...
Also like someone said why Luke and Jessica didn't make a list? This is the best couple for me this days.

Justice and Firestar being there seems a bit lame. Why? They had like zero impact or relevance. Most people wouldn't even know who they are much less that they were ever together.

Kitty and Colossus as number 1 seems live a VERY trendy decision rather than a substantive one.

I do love that Spider-Man/Gwen ranked higher than Spider-Man/MJ. I LOLed at that.

It surprised me that Justice wanted to settle down and Firestar wanted to explore. Usually it's portrayed as the other way around, so I applaud the couple on that. However, they seemed more...infatuated with each other.

Simon Williams and Scarlet Witch?

Simon Williams and Ms. Marvel?

Lowlight: Psychically manipulated by Cassandra Nova, Emma subjects Scott to emotional torture and uses her powers to apparently shut off his mutant powers—he responds later by shooting her in the back with a handgun. (ASTONISHING X-MEN #17—2006)
When you tell that story in such a matter-of-fact way it sounds quite hilarious. I think this should have been put as their Highlight. And other writers should take lessons, because that's the kind of wackyness I'd like to see from this couple. "Scott and Emma: They put the fun in dysfunctional."
