VERY dissapointed with this issue. I expected to finally get some Piper storyline this ish - especially with him featured on the cover! - and we get one page with him where nothing even happens. I'm sick of Countdown, this series is so anti-climactic. I keep trying to get excited for each upcoming issue, and I just keep getting let down. Here's the spoilers from this week...
- Solomon gets the upper hand in his chess game with Darkseid by bringing Brother Eye to Apokolips. A massive group of OMACs attack the army of Parademons.
- Karate Kid and Una spend an entire page to say "Gee, we better get out of here."
- Jason blames Ray for dragging the Challengers to Apokolips. Ray says he's clueless and Jason continues railing him for answers on how to get out. While Ray, Kyle and Donna debate Darkseid's involvement with recent events, Jason bails to go find something to hit. He run into the OMACs and decides he can use Brother Eye to get him back to his own Gotham.
- Piper whines to Tricksters hand about the 'light' last issue sending him to Hell, decides it's time to snuff it, and gets interrupted by someone mysteriously showing up and telling him his life isn't in his own hands.
- Holly, Harley, and the still-powerless Mary take on Granny's Female Furies and some Apokolips soldiers. Mary evades gunfire intended for her, which kills Mad Harriet. Then they knock out the soldiers and arm themselves with their weapons. Mary thinks she can hear the voices of captured gods.
- Jimmy and Forager boom tube to Habitat while having a comedic exchange about cannibalism. Then they are greeted by ... someone that doesn't identify theirselves, probably someone from Jimmy's past. Forgive me for not being familiar with Jimmy's past Kirby-era adventures.
- the issue ends with Una's dissatisfaction with KK's plans, which are simply to 'get of Apokolips', beyond which he has no clue what to do. Brother Eye is assimilating things at a rapid pace in the background, suddenly assimlates Una offscreen, and then has her announce that she does, indeed, want Val to be assimilated along with the virus inside him.
- Villain origin this week was Solomon Grundy. And I must say it sucked.

It's hard to spoil an issue where almost nothing of any interest or import happens. Seriously, they could have printed blank pages and I'd have more to tell you.

Or nothing that makes any sense. Freaking Brother Eye laying waste to Apokolips as Darkseid watches helplessly? Holly Robinson and Harley Quinn besting Granny Goodness and The Furies? Surely you jest.

Big Barda is rolling around in her grave right now.
And spooning with Kalibak.
Anyway, it looks like the book's quality has regressed again. It really feels like after they had good momentum with the Monarch/Superman Prime thing they lost steam and they're getting more choppy and weird. Like I had no idea that the OMAC stuff, which is basically lower tech compared to Apokolips tech, could absorb the entire planet and Darkseid is still fixated on the game.
The Piper stuff really went nowhere outside of what looks like Desaad showing up, and apparently the Female Furies could get their asses beat by 3 regular girls. I did like Mike Norton's art though, and the characterization of Red Robin and the Holly, Harley and Mary was pretty good. Don't know where the Jimmy and Forager thing is going but him meeting up with another familiar New God was pretty neat.
Eh, 5/10 at most but next week's issue needs to seriously pick up the slack.

Watching from the outside, it seems like people get really happy when Superman-Prime shows up and really sad when he leaves.

I guess.
I think at that pont things were really moving with Monarch and his army, the Challengers were more involved, and the Piper stuff was put on the back burner. The rest of the stuff here could be good if they stopped chopping it up and having the New Gods like Granny and the Furies lose so easily.
I'd also like to see more of Darkseid and Solomon but I guess that'll have an endgame by the end and Darkseid gets the lion's share during Final Crisis.

The vibe I'm getting from these last two issues is the team knows where they're going to finish, and they're almost there, but they don't want to get there too soon. As such, issues 12 and 11 have regressed the tempo again, if not the entertainment level of the storytelling altogether. In other words, they're dragging it out. I just hope they aren't overdoing it, and we wind up with an overly compressed finale as a result.

I thought that back on Earth, Brother Eye had picked up / merged with / been "infected" with some Apokoliptian (Apokolicious? :) ) technology. I don't have the issues at hand, but I thought...
- The ruins of Bludhaven has some Apokaliptian tech. as a result of the Crisis.
- Brother Eye assimilated Bludhaven, including the Apok. tech.
That would explain (partially) why Brother Eye is kickin' butt and takin' names on Apokolypse.
It would also tie in to the DOTNG/Fourth World-to-Fifth World transition. Apokolips keeps meddling in Earth's affairs, and ultimately leaves its powerful toys lying around. Teenaged Earth comes along, picks up said toys (including Boom Tubes galore), and uses them to beat up Mean Ol' Apokolips. The Fifth World (Earth) gets the power to destroy the Fourth World from the Fourth World.

After reading this issue, I suddenly started thinking...
"What if New Genesis and Apokolips is actually just two more versions of Earth?"
I dunno, call me crazy, but something about that is really bugging me...

I've read every issue of Countdown, and I still don't know why OMACS are on Akopolips. Can anyone help me?

Brother Eye acquired the Boom Tube technology a few issues back from Desaad's lair in Bludhaven, and I think realized that there was a wealth of fancy tech on the other side of a Tube.
