Anyone here read the title Skreemer? Questions about the end (spoilers)

So I just read through the last Skreemer issue and it was a really great read. However I'm a bit confused about the part dealing with Veto's baby. What was wrong with the kid that made Veto take the plunge?

The baby was either stillborn or malformed I can't remember. Not well, of that we can be certain at any rate.

I had a flick through last night. The baby's alive, but presumably it's hideously deformed or a vegetable or something
