From the interview by Matt Brady:

As we mentioned in our coverage on Saturday from DC’s RRP meeting, J. Torres will launch a new six issue miniseries in June titled The Family Dynamic. In this case, the title’s a pretty accurate descriptor – Torres’ Family Dynamic is just that – a family of super-heroes.

We spoke with Torres to find out more about the miniseries.

For the first look at my newest project at DC, check out the interview here (http://forum.newsarama.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=5138020).

Please stay tuned for more on Family Dynamic, including an interview here on CBR!

I saw the preview, this looks very enticing. I've always liked "family" books. Is there going to be lots of humor, or is it more serious in tone?

I'd say it'll be a mix of humor and drama, you know, very "classic" comic book sensibilities. There are teenagers in the book so just like the Titans or early Spider-Man, you know they'll be smart alecs. But we've got action and adventure in store too!

Okay, I love your work, especially on books for younger readers which I feel is VITALLY important to comics as a whole. Now, that being said, I have to ask...

Why is it that original characters are never in continuity?

I'm not just talking about your work, but in general. It seems that any time a company creates something really refreshing and original, it's not in continuity. You mentioned Astro City as an example, and that's exactly my point.

Sure, Marvel has Runaways (it's bastard child, as it were) in continuity... but just barely. DC's new characters all have some kind of roman numeral after them. The newest original characters that DC has made that I can remember are Lagoon Boy and Son of Vulcan (and Vulcan himself... but he died quick).

So, this Family Dynamic is very cool, but once again, this is a case where the refreshing idea is seperated from the universe that NEEDS new characters desperately.

I guess I'd just like a little more insight into that decision.

Well, it's up to the individual creators and I guess their choices are informed by their contracts. I can't get into the details, but for us it was about creative control and ownership. However, for example, Garth Ennis might have negotiated (or been offered) a different contract for Hitman, again just for example, so I can't really answer your question for everyone or even in a general sense...

Thanks for the kind words, btw!

Hey J!
What's been happening with this? It wasn't in June, nor July's advance solicitations.
I've been eagerly waiting to check this one out.

It's now being solicited for August. It was pushed back as other books were shuffled around and rescheduled. I would've loved it to be out in time for San Diego, but on the bright side, we got some extra time to work on the book
