Eh, sounds more like a setup issue than anything else, one used to lure new readers over to DC. But a Johns/Morrison team-up priced at fifty cents; how can you pass it up? I'm in.:)

The Legion is central to it, so I'm there!

Hmm, very interesting.
SPOILERS
I can see...
In the Blue area
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Night Girl
Colossal Boy
Chameleon Girl
Sun Boy i think
Shadow Lass' bottom half
Cosmic Boy's hand i think
Wildfire's hand possibly
In the Purple area
Blok
Dawnstar
Timber Wolf
Lightning Lass
All of the characters are from the Action Legion.
The different colored areas are in two different places, although both seem to be in the 31st century...the blue definitely is.
They seem to be fighting shadow demons ala CoIE.
The blue area is Metropolis, over the Daily Planet building.
Very interesting indeed!

Or maybe Earth-1 Superman, since no one knows the status of him and HIS allies...

Damn, I wanna know who's art that is on the cover, and at 50 cents, I know I'll be picking up a copy.

It's Morrison's sentient DC Universe, of course. I know it sounds like I'm joking, but I can actually see that happening. :D

A Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns co-written book at 50 cents?
A couple of years ago, HELL YEAH. But today: Don't care.
But y'all go ahead and enjoy - - or not - - however it works out.

Bravo, kenaustin, for actually looking at that mess hard enough to recognize what was there! My eyes aren't up to the task. In fact, it's more painful than the cover to Cannonbusters #1, which was my previous candidate for eye-sorest cover ever.

Actually they're in the same place. That's not the 21st Century Daily Planet globe. If you look carefully, you'll see the letters are Interlac.
Also I don't think it's the cover. It appears to be a two page spread from the issue itself. Within the zero you see Superman using his heat vision. In the blue area you see his heat vision striking a shadow creature...On the left just below Lightning Lad

This sounds great! So many tie-ins/spinoffs have been out during this whole Countdown to Final Crisis, along with the individual titles. A compilation, if you will, detailing what's been important in the last year and moving forward is fantastic. My only worry is on if they can do it all in only 24 pages!

meh. first off 7 issues for final crisis. you know that is what screwed up infinite crisis, that it felt rushed at the end and should have been 3 issues longer.
now this whole bridge thing that is being used to introduce new readers but no matter the fact that there were 52 goddamn comic books that are a prelude to better understand the event after 'dc universe 0'. this all sounds stupid and is another reason Marvel will own 2008 like they do every year.
dc gets my money but joe quesada seems to win.

it already did come to life, some dudes are saying Ledger being killed by The Joker was the first sign.

The only reason I don't like books like this are because there's little substance in them given what it's set out to do. But it's only 50 cents so it should be worth it for the art alone, I'm more excited about Geoff Johns half of the writing than Grant's but it should be an interesting read concerning the upcoming DCU stuff.

I think the Shadow Demons were a weapon used by the Anti-Monitor in the original 1985 Crisis series. I'm sure you exploded if they touched you.

Final Crisis is going to be oversized and written by a much better writer than Geoff Johns.

Those fifty-two comics were complete !@#$ing garbage, and any new reader jumping into them would likely gouge out their own eyes to escape the vapid dialogue and horrendous art, completely ignoring the convoluted continuity. I doubt this needs to be read any more than Countdown to Infinite Crisis needed to be read to understand Infinite Crisis. These books aren't written for new readers to jump into, these are bookends for nerds who need events like them to make their following of continuity seem important.

While I have faith in Grant and Final Crisis given the creative team and the great amount of lead time that they were given, anything can happen during Final Crisis that will turn sour or even turn the fans off. I mean Geoff Johns was known to be a great writer at the time before he did Final Crisis and he still gets sh*t for Infinite Crisis which of course wasn't perfect.

Countdown as a whole still has a good few weeks to go to judge where they were going with everything but the quality of the book is definitely way below par compared to 52. However that said I have enjoyed many parts of Countdown that even if they don't tie into Final Crisis can still be enjoyed on it's own. Things such as the Superman Prime and Monarch stuff, the Pied Piper & Trickster team up, Karate Kid & Triplicate Girl w/ the Brother Eye, seeing what Ray Palmer was up to, and some of the Jimmy Olsen parts.

Yeah, I noticed that. But with the shape of the globe and the Interlac spelling out e t to the left of the Saturn symbol and D a i l to the right, I figured it was the 31st Century Daily Planet building. ;)

I hadn't noticed that. I tried lining it up in Photoshop, but couldn't get it exactly right, but I'd say you're probably right. I'm thinking that mace between Dawnstar and Light Lass might be Yera's fist.
MWGallaher, without Photoshop's zooming and lightening features these old eyes wouldn't have seen anything either! :)

OOPS! Missed you saying it was both 31st Century locations.

Looks like it. I tried the same thing in Photoshop and could get it lined up when enlarging the image within the zero. It isn't exactly side by side...There's a bit of space between the two.

Honest to God truth... I still have my copy of Brave New World, and I still read it too. I'm a sucker for the big, cheap reads... being a poor college student.
That, and this teaming looks pretty damn sweet.
I'm putting this one-shot and the poorly-named Trinity (what's wrong with DC Superstars?) at the top of my must-buy list for the coming year. Right now, I'm just counting the days until Countdown is over.

The price ($.50?? wat is this, the 1980's?) is the only reason i will pick this up. I am a little evented out at the moment. Hands up all who think anything really status quo altyering will come out of Final Crisis.
Didn't think so.

The way DiDio talks about the book from its conception to now really doesn't make me feel confident in what it might contain. At first it was this, but now it's this, then we changed it to this, but we figured it would be this instead.
I read so many interviews from DiDio about how awesome Countdown and the Countdown tie-ins were going to be and how integral it was to be a part of the story for the new era of DC Comics. Honestly, it reminded me of a college kid promising that his end of term paper would be mind-blowing, but ended up turning out to be extremely laughable. People may criticize Civil War, but its execution, characterization, and story are leagues ahead of Countdown in every way.
I've heard people say we have some time to see where Countdown is going, but do you really think it should take this long from 52-the teens to have a moment of satisfaction? They keep mentioning the "tone" of the DC Universe for 2008 but I'm not too confident in what that may be.
Please understand my comments are based on the fact that I used to be an avid DC Comics fan, but the material and direction lately have disappointed me greatly. The headlining event titles have been awful and it's just too bad. It's hard to believe that anything will change in 8 issues of Final Crisis, including this bridge issue, that will change status quo and tell better comic book stories. I would love to be wrong and see things change.
Trinity finally sounds like an idea that makes volumes of sense compared to everything DC has done in awhile. I'm glad they decided to get the heavy hitters together, write some fun and compelling stories, but not have it tie into everything else. If this is delivered as promised, Trinity will be the comeback that could make things more exciting.

Not so fast, blackphoenix.
I'm guessing that plenty of series are going to start over... as in... become renumbered. Now THAT would alter the mathematical status quo of the DC Universe, and would piss me the hell off.
While we're on this subject, I'm just wondering...
Am I the only fan who gets incredibly irritated when publishing houses relaunch series and start over number-wise (i.e. Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, etc.)?
IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!

DD: Absolutely. And there’s a special narrator in it that we’re not going to reveal until it comes out, but it’s something that I think helps to propel the excitement of the DC Universe, and the vision we all share in moving forward.
R.I.P. special narrator.

I couldn't care less about what will happen to the status quo. The main thing I'm hoping for with Final Crisis is that it's a good story with nice art. That's not too much to ask, is it?

Yeah same. but it will be cool if all the heroes die, at least heroically. It's the only thing left isn't it?
