This book got horrendous.

Giffen couldn't write to save his life.

Seriously... How does he do it?

I didn't think you could make comics BORING.

This is nothing but authorized/published fanfic coupled with fanart. Period.

I can't even point out what I hate about this because it makes no sense. It's like every 4 pages there's a conversation that took place that they left out. How did Midnighter know he isn't really Lucas Trent? wtf was the deal with that old dude leaving behind his little keychain at the motel?

I... Ugh...

His run is the equivalent of Eddie Griffin driving a Ferrari.

That will so come back now :)

That said, the issue was boring...

I wonder if I should go pickup this book based on the review.... I must say I am now intrigued.

How did Midnighter know he isn't really Lucas Trent?

That was the whole reason why he hired the hacker girl, to look into the information Jenny had provided him with. Jenny made the whole thing up, as the whole small-town boy persona was far more favorable to who Midnighter really was before Bendix. It's never explicity stated who Midnighter was, but the fact that he was a horrible, horrible person before is alluded to. He has always enjoyed killing, even before the superheroics and the enhancements. All of this was pretty much the entire point of the previous arc, and everything was laid out plain as day.

"What kind of person do you think it takes to make a Midnighter?"-Jenny

Yes. But it lacked the whole "Waaaiiiit a minute. This info is false. I'm not no Lucas Trent." moment.

It just cut straight to him having a convo with the hacker lesbian and her saying "How long did you know?"

I thought what she was referring to was his sexual preference...

Doesn't matter. Either way, Giffen should be forbidden to have anything to do with fiction.

Probably because he had his doubts about the whole thing right from the start. Why else would he have gone looking for hackers before he did anything else?

I would also lay off wishing bodily harm to keith Giffen, unless you want to find yourself banned. I don't think Stony will appreciate your comments very much when he sees them. Not liking his work on the book is one thing, wanting the guy to be flayed with barbed wire is something else entirely.

I really have no problem with Giffen's run on Midnighter so far

I think the problem is that it is not living up to any standards set by The Authority...or any other wildstorm book....

There is still no way to seperate him from being a whack batman...though ennis did a decent job...just didnt finish well

put it this way...it couldnt suck more than the Grifter Crossover..that is true suckdom.

Eh. The Grifter crossover wasn't great but it was still better than this. At least the art was nice.

Never read Gen 13 and really have no interest but I could not agree with you LESS when it comes to Stormwatch PHD. I think that book was really telling great stories and building to have a lot of good plot lines down the road. The foundation was laid and the reader support was not there. Out of all of the Wildstorm relaunched titles in my opinion that is the ONE that got it right.... but obviously with only 11,000 people reading it at the end I recognize a lot of people would disagree.

He wanted to give the fans an ending before it was canceled, but he had to wrap it up by issue #12 instead of things left unresolved

I truly felt that, for the first ten issues or so, Midnighter was the best comic I had to look forward to each month. Ennis's endearing characterization gave way to some truly brilliant one shot stories tackled by guest writers, and now we have this. Long, disappointing story arcs that rewrite the premise of the title, introducing an expanded cast of uninteresting supporting characters, and you know it's all going to disappear when the next writer takes over, anyway. Giffen tries too hard to stun us with banter and intrigue, when neither possess any substance. I've respected some of his work in the past, but he is destroying the potential of this title. It's the one Wildstorm comic I was still enjoying.

Does anyone know how long Giffen will be remaining on Midnighter? I can't wait for the next guy to take over.

for the foreseeable future for right now, unless he get tapped for a bigger DC gig, like they did with Morrison

I agree.

This book is pretty bad right now.

And the art -- jeez...

I know some people weren't completely happy with Ennis' kick-off to the series, but he did a pretty fucking good job of re-establishing Midnighter as a driven, haunted, exceptionally dangerous loner. The start to this Anthem arc was promising, but it seems to have helped neuter Midnighter, for the time being, at least. He still punches a few brains in, but he has a damn teen sidekick for crying out loud, whether they admit it or not.

I didn't mind Giffen's Anthem arc, but I was dissapointed to find that with the second arc starting, we're still here. I wish he would move on from it. He dragged it kicking and screaming to 6 issues, when there was only really 3 issues of content, and I don't how much there is really left to say about it. I'm glad there's a new artist at least.

The issue BKV did was solid.

Oh and Gage's issue was pretty rad too.

What´s up with Giffen and female Sidekicks? Drax The Destroyer and Cammi, anyone?

I just don't understand how Giffen missed the point of this title so completely.

That first Giffen arc was unforgivably terrible and this second one is a minor improvement (in that it is boring, rather than terrible).

I have had a lot of respect for Giffen's work in the past (his Justice League run is still my favourite) so I have no idea what's going on here.

Issue #17 is worse. 6 or 7 full pages WASTED on text-less battle scenes.

Color me completely bored by the whole thing. Filler issue and it wasn't even coy about it. What a waste.

I don't mind a bad story, but I can't stand complete laziness, and that's what this issue felt like.

I'm a big fan of most of Giffen's stuff, so I wanted to get into Midnighter, but I dropped it after the first arc - didn't grab me at all or make me want to find out more.

However, I was hoping it would be like his highly underrated Suicide Squad from about 5 to 10 years back. That started off slow, but after a few issues in became the best thing on the rack at the time! (Anyone else like this series? I know it didn't sell well.)

Oh well, at least we have a new Ambush Bug mini coming up!

am not a fan of Giffen's work, and i must say am enjoying this, and to be truthful,am not expecting much either, its a fun read, and for a character who started out as a gay piss take of batman, hes come a long way

(him and apollo are ment to be batman and superman ).......;)

i agree its a filler issue but overall am liking it...................:)
