Countdown to Final Crisis #12 *Spoilers*

It starts off with Apokalips and the challengers. Kyle hates it there but that's ok cos Kyle is awesome. Donna asks Ray why are they there and he doesn't know.

In Metropolis, Jimmy gets out of the shower as Forager is looking for food, in the foggy mirror, there is written "to apokalips".

On Paradise Island, Mary is pissed off at where she is but laying low and trying too find out what is going on. Harley talks to her and finds out that the imposters are moving faster than they expected with the unveiling of the new furies. On another side of Paradise Island, Desaad chats with Granny Goodness and Desaad says that her loyalty to everything is foolish(alluding the death of the new gods) but Granny is stern in her loyalty to Darkseid. Desaad boom tubes away.

On Apokalips. Darkseid is playing "the" chess game with Solomon. They have a plan going on and it seems that they are playing chess with lives, ie the Countdown teams. Darkseid is winning.

Back on Paradise Island, 'Athena' is announcing the new Female Furies till Mary butts in and starts yelling and begins a fight, Harley and Holly jump in. Athena orders the Furies to kill them but Angry Hippolyta changes the situation by confronting her and cuts her with her magic sword which stuns Granny, forcing Granny to boomtube out of there. Harley being crazy jumps in after her, and Holly and Mary Marvel go after Harley.

In the desert, Piper is reminscing about how he discovered he was gay, talking to 'trickster'. He is awaiting the end and a boom tube opens in front of him, but he thinks it's 'the light'.

In Bludhaven an Omac shows up and they realize it's Professor Stein, but the Omac is Brother Eye, he says that his creator Buddy Blank and the child(Kamandi) will remain there(he seems to show gratitude) and the rest are 'expendable'. brother eye activates a boom tube and the whole massive brother eye is gone. The last words in the last panel are 'Grandpa...?' by Kamandi in the bunker.

Everything is coming together.

The whole vibe of this issue is, "Crap, we only have 12 issues left???? Ummmm, yeah the source tells everyone to go to apokolips....ummmm....boom tubes, yeah." Especially since Jimmy and Forager just left! They get one shower and back to the hell pits!

The concept of the chess game between Solomon and Darkseid is interesting. At least, it means that the wandering storylines of piper/trickster, mm, and holly/harley were not completely pointless, they were just gambits to eliminate/protect/steal players from the upcoming "endgame".

This means that Monarch's army and Superman Primes intervention were moves and countermoves in this game. But whos move was it? I assume that Solomon was using Monarch to set up the other monitors into allowing him to try becoming Montior Prime. When that failed, Darkseid countered Monarch with SMP.

Seems more like Monarch and Prime are not in the game. Just two powerful dudes no one counted on.

Yeah that didn't make any sense. If she had all that power that she supposedly had in Amazon Attacks (ugh), why wouldn't she use it against a lower level Hippolyta?

I didn't buy that she would suddenly forget those powers just because Holly, Harley, and Mary made her doubt her victory.

I don't think it was all forced.

It depends on whether Darkseid and Solomon's moves correspond to making the Boom Tubes and signs to go to Apokolips appear. I was glad that the Boom tube came up for the Piper since I was wondering where that was going and there's still a bit more to go with Brother Eye and Apokolips.

So really, collecting them together in a "convergence" is kinda the point of the whole thing......

Sure, why not? But haven't they had, like, forty issues to build up to that? Instead of fate taking all of these characters to Apokolips, you guys get to see them all plot-deviced there. That's gotta be awesome.

The only way to Apokolips is through a Boom Tube though. Not sure how else the Pied Piper, Holly and co., and the Challengers would get there from a gradual build when they don't have the means to do so although Kyle probably has the best weapon to do it with the ring.

Well again, it depends on how far in the chess game is between Solomon and Darkseid. They've revealed them to be making moves but they haven't shown at what progress but I'm assuming they're pretty far along to move things to Apokolips. I'll agree that some of them were contrived ways to put some of them in Apokolips (such as chasing Granny Goodness into the Boom Tube) and maybe even the Brother Eye stuff but the KK, Buddy Blank, Brother Eye stuff was going on for a while with mysterious underpinnings.

The thing is, I really couldn't think of where else the Piper stuff would be going to really say that the Boom Tube opening up before him was contrived. He's in the middle of nowhere in the desert, and we know he's not gonna die so I actually expected the unexpected there.

I guess the convergence of plots didn't bother me as much because I've been waiting for so long for things to finally progress towards a point in each of the character threads and why they would be related.
