Rock the hell on, Darwyn Cooke! :D Man, he killed in favorite writer/artist. And wow, Marvel buried DC and Dark Horse this year. Not surprising that Dark Horse was the favored of the two, either, but I am surprised by how many people preferred Marvel over either two. That's a huge margin, there.
Overall, I'm happy with the winners. I'm very happy to see the attention given to titles like Scott Pilgrim and creators like Jeff Smith and Cooke. Despite my dislike for certain things, it was a very good year for comics.

I agree with Jack.
That felt weird to say.

The one that surprised me the most was Marvel winning by such a big margin and Dark Horse beating DC.
From 2002 to 2005, DC was always on top with Marvel a little behind. Last year Marvel beat DC, but that could have been due to the separating of DC and Vertigo as two selections.

I love that Immortal Iron Fist won comic deserving most attention. It's been a great series thus far and more readers need to check it out.

The fact that Essential Dazzler was even nominated frightens me.
The character has a pretty big fan-base on the net, particularly on our own X-Books forum, who've been clamoring for the Essential treatment since the volumes started. I'm actually MORE surprised Essential Dazzler wasn't the winner.

Not too bad for such a superhero-heavy list/site. I think it's great that despite the "Bringing Bucky back" outrage, the story itself is recognized as a great one.

I agree completely.
Also happy to see the recognition for Darwyn Cooke, Persepolis, Jeff Smith and Ed Brubaker, among others. Hopefully, the more we acknowledge those who attempt to redefine the medium, the more encouragement that provides to those in it (or trying to get in it) to try to be different.

The idea of someone like Chuck Austen writing it instead gives me the willies, though.

Yeah, like I said, I'm not surprised DC lost and Marvel won, but that it was a pretty huge margin. I'm wondering if people voted for or against either company based on the merits of the books they published last year, or with the opinion of the company's editors and creators in mind as well.

I think it's a great series, too, but I think it gets plenty of attention already. I would've loved to see more people vote for Blue Beetle, because that book doesn't even get enough attention from the company that publishes it, but seeing so many people nominate it in the first place was good enough for me.

Ditto. That and the Hellboy books coming out at least once a month made 'em my favorite company anyway. D Didi and Joe Q could've written the an all chick nude crossover with art by Frank Cho printed on pure gold and given it to me for free and I still wouldn't have voted for either company.
(Weird when the name really fits.)
Yeah, hilariously fitting. Now someone needs to start an Underdog Comics and publish that gold nude Frank Cho book.

Seriously, the only reason why Dazzler wasn't the worst Marvel comic of the early 80's is that Marvel was also publishing U.S. 1 and Team America at the time.

This is all your opinion. I was never a big fan of Dazzler until I read her Essential. Sure, parts of it were corny, but it was the 80's in Marvel and corny wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
If Dazzler ever beats a super-villain with her Gucci purse again, I will die happy.

Those stories were camp as christmas, I love them. Come on when do you get to see a diva mutant with little experience or training take on the likes of Galactus and Terrax? Its like the issue of Iron Man where Squirrel Girl defeats Dr.Doom! Pure comic book gold!!

Honestly, when I first heard about it, I was one of the people going, "Really? You thought that was a good idea?" But as it progressed, people started saying, "Wow, on the face of it, you'd never expect this to work, but it does," and so I gave the first two trades a whirl, and was pleasantly surprised.

I'm kind of disappointed by some of the results, but there are some really close races here. I have no idea what's up with the Captain America thing (sorry Joe, I'm not learning the entire Marvel universe for one book).
The most disappointing thing is seeing Peanuts* in the win column. I suppose it could be read as an statement on the quality of current newspaper comics. It just bugs me that reruns are taking valuable spots in the newspaper.
*Please note that this is not a statement about the quality of Peanuts.

What else is Peter David writing besides X-Factor? Because Morrison's writing Batman, which I think is some of the best superhero writing I've seen out of the mainstream DCU in a long, long time, and he's writing All-Star Superman, which while infrequent is pure !@#$in' gold. That's why I voted for him. Well, that, and "Club of Heroes" is possibly the greatest Batman story ever.

What else is Peter David writing besides X-Factor?
Last year, Peter David wrote (for comics) X-Factor, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, two issues of She-Hulk, four issues of Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man, a Wonder Man miniseries, a story for the World War Hulk Prologue, Fallen Angel, Angel Spotlight: Illyria, Soulsearchers & Company, and a miniseries for Dark Horse whose name I don't recall. And possibly some other stuff I'm not aware of.
Edit: And The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born. I am made of fail.

Wow. My votes (and nominations) actually made a difference this time around.
This is the first year since 1994 where I was actually reading most of the books being published within that year. I remember getting back into comics after a long hiatus around... 2001 or so? Finally got caught up on most of the greats from the past 20 years.
And I'm SO incredibly happy that Nextwave #11 got issue of the year. Awesome stuff.
