For all those people who really don't give two craps one way or another. So OMD was kinda crap but your looking forward to new stories anyway. Don't care what goes on behind the scenes, just keep putting out interesting tales. The devil you say? Well good thing I don't put religion or real world values into my stories.

Sorry, double post. Read below for what I said.

I guess I would go here.

To clarify, I think OMD was bad but BND is good, so I will continue to buy Amazing Spider-Man.

Here's something I think a lot of comic readers have messed up on: the character hasn't changed; you have (for the most part). When you started reading, would you get upset about this? No, you'd probably think Mephisto was cool but scary and Spider-Man needed to save Aunt May. Now that you're older, that's changed, but the character is the same.

I could be wrong, but that's how I see it.

This is kinda applicable to me i mean;

I disliked OMD

I liked the marriage

But i still read BND out of my love for the character, although i must admit i did hesitate but now im on board im happy and am looking forward to the future with optimistic eyes.

Which is probably the most healthy way to think about this sort of thing.

Half the people that complain are STILL reading Spider-Man comics, just a different canon

I'd say this thread is utterly redundant in that regard. Nobody has abandoned Spidey at all, so nobody has any right to say there better than anyone else.

I'm sorry if it offends your sensiblities. Also who is saying they are better than anyone else? Off the high horse little fella.

Are you kidding me? I can think of atleast 5+ people here who have dropped the title and no longer post in the spider-boards, not to mention all the other people who have removed it from their signature etc

ALOT of people have stopped reading it

I wasnt talking about ASM. I meant to say people who had given up on BND are reading other Spidey canons.

After not reading Spider-man for ten years I got back in to it with OMD and have continued to read it up through now. I really liked the Dan Slott arc. If OMD is the reason stories like this can be told then I am all for it.

I never had a problem with Peter Parker being married but now I'm glad it's over. The spider-marriage, like all marriages, was an unfortunate mistake. It's been corrected now even if it was rather ham fisted and haphazardly. But whatever. It's done and now it's time for more Spider-man.

This is the first time I've commented on the subject because all the negativity from the fans really turned me off from talking about comics with other comic nerds. I know snarkiness and constant disapointment are staples of being a comic nerd but I think everyone went way too overboard with it this time.

Spider-man is awesome. Let's not forget that.

This is where I would be, too. I just want to read good comics, in general, and good Spider-Man comics specifically, and for me, Brand New Day is very good.

It wasnt a mistake. It was progress, evolution, and last I checked, mistakes dont last twenty-one years, and that includes "real" ways of handling a seperation.

And Clark and Lois marraige isnt holding back the character either.

It's been corrected now even if it was rather ham fisted and haphazardly. But whatever. It's done and now it's time for more Spider-man.

If nobody had a problem with it before an editor abused his power, then it's clear there was no problem to begin with. Like everyone else, you'll say "I'm glad the marraige is back" when it's restored

It's becoming obvious fans beleive what they want to beleive in order to enjoy a direction that exists presently, then bend in the wind when it's reverted or addressed in a positive context.

Because the storyline and the character have been reduced to irredeemable shite? That's as good enough reason as any to "go overboard". It certaingly beats people pretending the marraige held Spidey back and picking sides for the sake of the current marketing.

Spider-man is awesome. Let's not forget that.

Yes, Ultimate Spider-Man is awesome, let's not forget that

See, this is why happy fuzzy threads never last, we all pretty much agree :) I'm really loving these new stories and digging the thrice monthly schedule. Heck , I was jonesing for the next installment in Pete's life after getting three thrown at me in a row. I want my Spider-Crack (wow.. that can be misconstrued. It's not a Cho doing Jessica thing NOR a secret man-crush on Pete, I swear. All I'm referring to is a harmless physiological addiction to a controlled substance)

I just want to read comics too. However, I want to read good comics. OMD was anything but good, and no matter how good BND is, it's still affected by OMD to an intolerable degree. I still read Ultimate Spider-man, but I won't approach Amazing with a ten-foot pole.

I was thinking about making a thread like this a few days ago but couldn't really figure out a way phrase it appropriately. "I Don't Care What Happens I Just Wanna Read Comics" fits perfectly at this point.Spider-man is awesome. Let's not forget that.Agreed.

Don't let it get you down guys. the truth shall set you free:

Shhh… You wanna know a secret? There's what people say and there's what people do. Ever try to go on a diet WITH a friend? Like, if I do this, will you do this with me? And eventually they walk in on you eating a piece of chocolate cake. And then they start screaming, "You said let's go on a diet TOGETHER! And here you are EATING CHOCOLATE CAKE! YOU B@ST@RD!"

Well guess what? You know what a LOT of those positive e-mails said? Stuff like this: "Hi, you might've seen my screen name online, and yeah, I was one of those guys saying I was going to boycott Amazing Spider-Man. But I tried it, and I like it! I didn't realize how much I missed this Spider-Man. Please don't tell anybody. And keep up the good work."

And then you turn around and you see that the guy is STILL posting on boycott threads! It makes you want to jump in and scream, "He's eating chocolate cake!" But you can't, 'cause you don't want to be a **** and "out" the poor guy.

Oh my God! And the RETAILERS! You get e-mails from retailers—the same retailers who were telling tales of woe of how all their customers we're canceling their orders for ASM. But now they're saying, "Yeah. All the guys in my store took ASM off their pull lists. But the sales are great, because those SAME guys are buying it off the rack." So basically, a lot of these boycotters are hiding ASM into the middle of their stacks. It's like they're buying porn or something. We've become comic book porn.

And you know what? That's great. We'll be your dirty little secret. That's fine. But seriously, next time you're on one of those threads just realize that your fellow poster—he's cheating on you. : )

There are any number of really good comics that spun out of really crappy ones. All of the Heroes Return books, Ellis' X-Man, the current Booster Gold, Jurgens' run on Sensational Spider-Man, as well as the Dezago/Wieringo run.

I wasn't 110% pleased with OMD, but it IS just a comic book. I have always loved Spider-Man so I continue to read the book and very much enjoy reading it three times a month. BND is great!

LOL to the Dan Slott quote :) So why are the big wigs not worried about all the negativity? Because of examples like that :p

I really do know folks who refuse to buy ANY Marvel books anymore and stick to it. I keep saying I just can't make myself buy the millar FF but just watch my chocalate cake wanting expanding comic-butt come that Wednesday and see what happens :o

As for the Spidey-blockers. good luck to them, they're missing out on some potentially really wonderful stories but good luck to 'em!

anyways, i think im about ready to join you guys on this. the last thing thats really bugging me is how theyve already made it so obvious that mj and pete will be together in the end. so for the next little while theyre pretty much just seeing other ppl... hes already spoiled the drama he so badly wants to bring back.

Oh I am so with this.

I read Spiderman for Spiderman. If he is married cheers too him(been married so umm can't really say I envy him). If he is not married well no skin off my back.

Just tell great Spiderman stories. Slott set the bar high. And mad props too Slott for taking the first part of bnd during all the turmoil and turning it into a fun Spiderman story. I have said before and I will say again. The first page in his arc was terrific!!! When he was writing it I wonder what he was thinking.

"Hmm I am gonna ha ve Peter kissing some random girl on the first page. Hahaha the fans are gonna lynch me! Let's do it."

Brian, we are too much alike. I mean, my name is Brian. I am a Republican in the southern US. I enjoy comics for what they are; comic books. Yeah, OMD was crappy, but BND has been a fun romp, including today's new issue.

Would I accept something like this in a comic like Scalped by Jason Aaron from Vertigo? Well, no, it's not a super hero comic and it is much more based on the real world. It hasn't already set the bar with dead people returning, magic retcons, Secret Wars and all that. However, Spider-Man has long been on this road.

Frankly, I am just a fan of Spider-Man and I'll follow the current fork in this road until, well, who am I kidding? I only lack 102 issues to have a solid run on Amazing from issue 200 to present... I'm likely to stick with Spidey a long time, as long as he keeps being the loveable loser.

it's like you KNOW me. but seriously, yeah, i was kinda miffed that they retconned all those stories, ( and then had the nerve to say "oh but they still HAPPENED..no, they didnt happen, why does he have webshooters, where are his The Other powers, etc. etc. ),

BUT, Spider-Man is Spider-Man. I wanna see where they go with this. wasn't too thrilled with Slott's first arc, but looking forward to picking up Guggenheim's (he is the man)

so, yeah. i just want to read good comics, too.
it's better than reading NO comics.
