Mid Life Crisis

Hi,

I've only recently gotten into reading comics I get Batman, Detective, Nightwing, Robin and All Star Superman and i'm enjoying them all but I want to get a bit more of a background into the DC universe as a whole.

Can I do that by picking up Crisis on Multiple Earths, Crisis on Infinite Earths, History of the DC Universe, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, 52, World War 3 TPB's or are there others I should pick up or am I going down completely the wrong route.

Help's urgently required as its frying my brain trying to figure it all out.

You don't need to read Crisis on multiple earths or crisis on infinite earths.

best bet is to read Infinite Crisis since it explains everything by issue 2(including the histroy of the DCU), start at Countdown to Infinite crisis one shot, and you don't even need to read the tie ins, maybe just omac project and rann-thanagar war because they were awesome. then read Infinite Crisis.

Then 52(world war 3 is part of 52) and you're set. You'll know the DCU by the end of Infinite crisis.

I would recommend getting 52. I thought it was a great story. I don't think that Crisis on Multiple Earths, History of the DC Universe, or World War III (which wasn't very good) are necessary.

I think Jonn starts his own vanity rock band full of over-the-hill semi-famous guys who only THINK they have talent and look good in leather pants. Sort of a Bruce Willis/Russell Crowe/Bacon Brothers kind of thing.
