Which MU character could destroy the world if they chose to?
I'll start out with an C-lister.
The Molecular man: See mountain, see mountain coverted to U-235, See world go away.

I would say a world where Storm using the awesome forces of nature would be broken. But it we are talking total destruction of the entire world- there is only one-- Galactus. Everyone else changes the Earth like Storm could.

He used the mutant powering drug kick during morrisons run to boost his powers, my guess is if he really wanted to he could do it without. How exactly he would do it im not sure, but then again im bad at science so i bet someone could make up a theory.

When I think world breakers, I think of people who could literally destroy the planet, as in it wouldn't be there anymore, and Mars would upgrade to the third planet from the sun. And, well, it's hard to think of people who could do that. Maybe if they could get to the core of the planet...

Doom and Reed Richards. Something has to be said for the potential to build something to blow up the world. And Doom would probably do it because he's bored.

The mountain of U-235 I mentioned in my forst post would reduce the earth to an asteroid belt. A direct connection to the Sun would reduce it to Ashes.

Unless they have really redefined Storms powers, I don't see how she could do anything to the world that would remotely destroy it.
Graviton was the first person I thought of also. Molecule man of course is another. I do think Magneto could but I think it would take some time. The worse part about WWH was that it "established" that Hulk could destroy the world, I'm going to say that is a one time thing and that his power isn't routinely at that level.
Disagree about Jean Grey, it would take her forever to do it(unless you are talking Phoenix force Jean Grey of course)
Doctor Strange? debateable.
Silver Surfer of course.
Thor if the Hulk could then Thor probably could, but I doubt it.
Black Bolt---time consuming but yes
And of course there are a lot of people who if they could get to the core of the Earth, probably could (mind you the core of the Earth is hotter than the surface of the Sun, so not sure how many people could get close enough to actually do damage, but assuming they can, then Nitro is an obvious answer, along with any elite super strong person)
Really? I mean, I know he's cool and all, but wouldn't he need some kind of serious boost in power to be able to destroy the planet?
Magneto could make towers to directly link himself with the Earth's magnetic field; as a result, everything on the Earth would be somehow affected. Most normal people would be dead. And the Earth might change its orbit too depending on the energy backlash. It would mean death.
Zaladane had planned to tap into the Eath's biosphere to augment her nascent magnetic powers, but Magneto killed her before she could destroy the Earth in Uncanny X-Men #275.
Any Herald of Galactus:
The Silver Surfer
Air-Walker
Firelord
Terrax
Nova
Stardust
Red Shift
Galactus could consume the Earth.
Thanos could make the Earth's sun go nova.
Adam Warlock's evil self, the Magus, could destroy the Earth.
Dark Phoenix could consume the Earth's sun; thereby, destroying the Earth in a super-nova. She could also literally destroy the Earth with her telekinesis in various ways, even commanding the elements of nature to do her bidding.
Thor has the ability to destroy the Earth.
Photon's ability to transform into pure energy could set off various ways to destroy the Earth.
The Scarlet Witch's hex spheres could set the world's nuclear arsenal to be released.

Claremont had Magneto release a force pulse in X-Men the End that wiped out all life on the Shi'ar homeworld.
I suspect Magneto could do the same thing to Earth given he was able to kill thousands and destory and entire city when he first unleashed his power or he could tear the Earth from its axis if he wanted. When it comes to Magneto, Lorna, and Zaladane using Lorna's power their level of power is directly related to their emotions. "Raw emotions manifest themselves as raw power" as Claremont said in Uncanny 274. I suspect Lorna if she allowed herself to get extremely emotional to the point of madness like Zaladane was that she could destory the world as well.

Magneto can control more than just magnetism, so much like Iceman we really don't know the upper limits to his power.

I would say so. But, Magnetism is of the four fundamental forces in this universe, it interacts directly with the other three forces which makes up the Unified Field Theory.

I guess what I was, or am trying to say is that without some kind of boost or machine to augment his powers, I don't think Magneto has what it takes to actually destroy a planet.
As far as Storm is concerned, no one is saying Storm cant wipe out mankind, or its buildings. Just storms however, cannot destroy a planet. It's like saying a strong gust of wind can destroy a rock (I don't think erosion counts, and probably wouldn't work on so large a scale.)

And what we're trying to say is that Magneto doesn't even know how strong he is. He can literally control different types of energy other than magnetism, but he never does it.

If they was true, why does he even bother with the great big "increase my power ten fold" machines? Why does he just... you know... try harder? I don't know... once I see him do something that big I'll, buy it. I don't even think Ultimate Magneto could do that kind of damage, and I thought he was way more powerful.

Maybe because writers tend not to write characters as strong as they should be(especially villains)If writers wrote characters up to their potential how many walking Deus Ex Machinas would there be. You could say the same thing about Iceman(which has been well documented), even someone like Spider-Man(who is the strongest person on the NA) Just because they're so much stronger than most people on the earth or that they interact with they are content with the power they know and never try to push their limits.

not too sure what the movie version of storm has to do with the Marvel 616 version of storm, who has the ability to manipulate. I'm not sure how she could use her power as a 'world breaker'. She could do some damage no doubt, but world breaker? I don't see it.

While encased as a living statue by Doctor Doom, Storm made a monstrous hurricane as a symptom of her claustrophobia. Once freed, Ororo literally became a living goddess as a being of pure elemental energy; however, she realized she sounded like Dark Phoenix & quickly came to her senses. She shed the energy far in the Earth's atmosphere then did the same with the monster hurricane before it hit landfall.
It all happened in Uncanny X-Men #145-147:

once again, that isn't world breaking, and a one time action isn't always evidence of the characters true power, on top of that Marvel has stated multiple times that the way her power works is to basically build the weather from surrounding conditions, she pulls and builds the weather so if she creates storm here it's being sapped from somewhere else so she couldn't build a storm to cover the entire earth, or anything on that scale, her power is localized not worldwide.

Great post DDM. What if she were to create a wind vortex removing the O-zone layer, allowing the suns heat to bake the Earth like a potato. I thought this thread was for World Breakers, not Destroyers. She can control solar winds as well.
I admit it, darn it I love her. :D
Do you hear me Storm, I am in love with your two-dimensional image.

Could Magma cut loose and start shuffling the tectonic plates to wipe out everything in a volcanic eruption? I'd lean toward yes.
other than that, any reality-warper, like Mad Jim Jaspers, Proteus, or the Scarlet Witch could do some serious damage.
The Shadow King or any powerful telepath could mentally dominate certain other World-Breakers to kill the world for him.
But I'd also put Hyperion on this list.

Storm can also manipulate stellar and space weather. She's managed to channel the power of a galactic core--containing millions of stars. If she did that with the sun, she might well be able to destroy the earth--and herself in the process.

She actually created a storm that covered the eastern seaboard of the United States. Also, Rachel Grey managed to create hyperstorms all over the world accessing Storm's powers.

I can't believe your all forgetting one of the most infamous of world breakers, Franklin Richards.
http://www.ffplaza.com/library/?issue=ff141
At the age of three when his godlike power first manifested itself he couldn't control it was about to let loose a surge of power that would have destroyed the Solar System. Fortunatly reed Richards in an early example of Reeddickery ruthlessly fired a weapon on his small son and effectively lobotimized his only son. ;) and people are suprised he shot the ulk into space. Anyway Franklins dormant power has increased dramatically since then to the point where he helped to restart the Universe and ressurected Galactus. Destroying the Earth would literally be childs play for him. fortunatly for the poeple of Marvel Earth they have a hero who won't think twice before turning his precous boy into a vegetable gotta love Reed.;)
