I just read the Spirit holiday special. I've thought this before, but let me say it again: She has a knack for writing cute stories about sexy boys (Spirit, Catman, etc.)

The other thing I love, love LOVE is the insertion of 'down time' moments for a team. We've certainly seen a lot of it in BoP, and some in VU, but I don't think I've ever seen the Justice League quite how they were portrayed in this..... when they returned from a battle, and had just made it back to the tower, and just crashed for a moment in each other's company before all moving on to the next task. I really found something very touching in it, and have to think that was the kind of vibe Meltzer wanted for his JLA run but missed the mark on. The moment when, off the battlefield and away from the planning table, when they are simply a community of colleagues and in some cases friends.

So what are the Trademarked Could-Only-Be-Written-By-Gail Moments that you love?

Dazzler being stalked by a psycho with a penchant for hating the Disco Beat. And for documenting said hate in Bible tract-like pamphlets.

then trying to kill her in a disco ball.

I'm going to be a total cheez and mention my own favorite moment of anything I've written recently.

I apologize for the sheer cheez of my including myself in this thread. :)

But the scene where Diana finally finds her mother, who had been single-handedly commando fighting a Nazi army and had only been taken down by a cowardly accidental ambush, and Hippolyta says,

"I am pierced, daughter...but I remain...

unbowed."

just as she falls. The way the Dodsons drew it gives me chills every time.

And I'm usually nothing but hyper-critical. I just love that moment for what it means aout the Amazons and Diana and Hippolyta in particular.

"--Sin weeping at her first taste of maple syrup."

That's another.

I now recuse myself from being cheez and leave this thread to others. ;)

1. Dinah seeing her 1980s uniform action figures at the mall.
If she's more offended that they existed, or that they weren't selling! LOL

2. Catman and Deadshot with gun and knife at each other.

3. Dinah and Diana in the training session
Diana wishing they would spend more time together, and offers a wager:
If Dinah loses, she will rejoin the JLA; and if she wins, Diana will owe here a favor -- and then attacks before Dinah realizes it's a win-win for Diana.

Course Dinah has rejoined the League, but Diana still owes her a "boon."
Please follow up on this during your WW run!

Rag Doll reveals he had "those bothersome bits" removed, grossing out Deadshot in the process! LOL

Too many to list.

Keep it up, Simmo.

Catman and Deadshot makin' breakfast is one of my favorite moments.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome. The Secret Six mini had several.

Making me care for the Mad Hatter probably trumps them all, though.

The first thing that pops into my head is the Ryan/Doris date in Atom #17. Man, I wish I was going to get more of that. :(

God, loads. The little quiet moments that add so much but don't distract from the main story? I love them. All of the above are brilliant.

I'm going for an easy one though. The moment I first sat up and realised - brilliantly - who this guy Deadpool really was, and took note of Gail's name on a book for the first time.

So what are the Trademarked Could-Only-Be-Written-By-Gail Moments that you love?

I don't think I have one. There's is nothing I can think of off the top of my head. Instead of love, I know I like a lot of her stuff. I like it enough to enjoy most of her work quite a bit. And she gets me to read DC books. I'm not a very big fan of DC Comics or the vast majority of their characters. But nah, nothing jumps out at me that screams 'trademark Gail'. But I think this is probably because she hasn't written stories using my favorite characters like many of the X-Men.

-Thomas licking Helena's neck
-Helena throwing a meatball at Thomas' head.
-The flirtation but instant connection between Helena/Thomas Huntress/Catman. The little note Helena left for Thomas explaining where her heads at and issuing him the challenge ("I have this thing right now where I only date nice guys. Give me a call when you decide to BE that nice guy")was a nice touch to all that transpired bt the two. It all left me wanting to see in the future that relationship developed somewhat.

-Black Canary kicking Savant's butt. That scene and seeing BC trying to keep her rage in check, sent chills down my spine.

-Babs kicking Katarina's ass. I so digged how Huntress and Manhunter were there to make sure it was a fair fight.

Here's two combat-related moments:

BC giving backstory on how she learned the "jireugi" punch from Wildcat after breaking her metacarpalsomethinsomething on his jaw. Excellent research, GS!

BC when she's taking out a small army in Asia (I forget where) and starts thinking about how a great martial artist can't help thinking, purely from automatic habit, about how easily she could destroy the unskilled people she meets.

You know what's funny, I just realized...

...several of these bits were not liked by the editors and had to be pushed through with much debate. :)

That's a funny thing. The actual first notion of putting Giganta in there with the Atom came in an email from one of my favorite comedians of all time, the brilliant Patton Oswalt. He suggested it, and I slapped my forehead because it had never occurred to me and it's so obviously perfect.

But I didn't want it to be just David vs. Goliath. I thought it'd be more fun to make it David LOVES Goliath, you know?

It's the thing I miss most about the book, probably, although I really loved writing Ryan himself.
