Did anyone buy this? I wanted to--had my heart set on it--but my store didn't have it!
I had gotten the original for Free Comic Book Day, but I wanted to buy this one. (Better cover, and it's a DC, which are usually good).
Could someone tell me what the DC specials are? I'd appreciate it. :)

OK, I got Swing Shift free on Free Comic Book Day. Then I chortled when Marvel tried to get some money for it a few months later and now they've released it a third time as a Director's Cut.
I might be tempted to buy the DC though but can anyone tell me exactly what's in it that wasn't in the Free Comic Book Day version?

Exactly my question.

fdbd: SS had some script changes so that it is out of continuity, and didn't give anything away about OMD or BND.
The directors cut undoes those changes and is totally in continuity.
At least that's how Dan Slott explains it.

I don't know exactly what was in the Free Comic Book Day version, but in the back of this one there was a "Spider-man Manifesto" by Tom Brevoort, written during the planning stage of BND. Also a section that says who all the characters are and what's going on with them, including a few things that I don't think have happened yet in the series. It also had some pencil drawings from the story, and on the last page a letter from Wacker.
I really enjoyed reading the Spider-man Manifesto. It basically outlined what elements should be in the Spider-man stories and what needed to be changed. I agreed with most everything in there and I'm glad they're taking Spider-man in this direction.
Cool, thanks a lot.
In the original, it's just the story where Peter takes on Overdrive (I think his name is?) and at the end, *spoilers* Jackpot shows up, and Spidey swings off as he's late to meet Aunt May. And it also included a preview of the first issue of One More Day. That's it. It's a good story, which is why I wanted the DC...:(

The Director's Cut is not too bad...

Slighty different dialouge here and there (basically just making it clear it takes place after Civil War).
Then there is a long essay on how Tom B see's Spider-Man and how he works best. It's quiet interest and I agree with most of what he says... although you have to question how he got so removed from what he "should be" in the first place.
Then there are a few bulletpoints on who everyone is and where they are (all of which you know from the first 3 issues).
A few pencil pieces from various Spidey artists.
An a letter from Wacker saying sorry he lied about Swing Shift not taking place in the new Status Quo when it first came out but will, and has lied again for the sake of protecting the story.
Is no-one else more excited about seeing jiminez's work than any other artist? I was rooting for Mcniven before this issue but phil has won me hands down

Now I'm even more so looking forward to Jimenez's issues. The directors cut was great but I was hoping it would shine more light on Jackpot.

The DC was awesome. Definitely well-worth it.
As far as McNiven vs. Jimenez...it seems like I'm the only one who prefers McNiven. Not at all a fan of the way Jimenez portrays Mr. Negative. He looks very...old. And Mr. Negative to me is not an old character. Also, his rendition of Spidey has McFarlane-esque eyes. I like it the way Todd drew it, but it just seems like a ripoff when someone else does it that way. I don't know, maybe I'm just being neurotic or something.

When I first read the story as a free comic book day book, I kind of liked it. It was nothing special though, but better than what I was reading on ASM. I said though that I hoped they will not bring Doctor Strange and f#@k the place down. Well, they didn't bring him. I got the book for free, I stopped ASM after quite some time, I don't want to give my money on this crap, thank you.

I'm really really excited about Phil Jimenez doing Spider-Man. Though i really hate the second cover he did but i'm really sure whether it was really meant to look like that. I pretty much streched it little and it dosen't look bad as before as you can see here below.

Finally bought a copy from my lcs. The extras were decent, though I'm disappointed it didn't include Slott's script (or the script he gave Jiminez.) The script changes were minor, but it did make more sense to have Jonah complaining about the heroes doing what he also wanted them to do.
And I think Breevort's manifesto is interesting enough to merit its own thread.

I just read my copy a few weeks ago. It was good, but apart from what Jonah was saying and Peter talking to himself on the first page it all seemed the same to me. The extras were pretty good. Especially the Tom Breevort section.
