If you have any suggestion for anime in the vein of the thread title I'd really appreciate it.

Hmmm.. anime series?
Berserk is a darker and more serious take about a lone warrior in a world of medevil war.
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is neat.
Full Metal Alchemist is neat, though it's two brothers with alchemy, not a gunman wandering the world. Though it's also got that semi-steampunk feel to it.
Also, may I suggest the manga for Trigun and Hellsing. They take the story so many new and better places that the animes never got to.

Can you clarify what you mean by "in the vein"?
Berserk is nothing like your 3 titles, just like those 3 shows are not a whole lot like each other.
Is there something specific you're interested in seeing?

As far as something like Trigun, I think Grenadier is something you may like to check out. If I remember correctly, it's a little more over-the-top then Trigun was, but it's still fairly similar and worth checking out.

Shows that are orientated toward adults. By adult I'm not talking about violence, but rather in terms of themes and animation technique. I chose those three shows, because I love them very much and figured those who like the above would be able to stear me into the direction of more great anime. The whole point of this thread is to build my very modest collection, as I used to be a renter so I don't own very much.
I just ordered Beserk from Amazon. Thanks Xenos.

A little late for a warning, but Berserk is more mature in terms of violence, as well as in terms of themes and animation. Plus it kinda ends on an open ending as there are like 30+ volumes of manga where the story continues. Still, the anime is pretty neat on its own. The chunk of the story it tells is pretty damn good.

I totally agree. I really wish they'd taken the anime further into the series.
