enough,mj,gwen whatever,i would like to read a what if featuring betty....what do you thing, wouldnt she be better for him, before they butched her character ?

also, what super hero....or villain would you think work best as a couple with spiderman? ......i think silver sable as they both share tragic pasts and they are very oposite to each other, and i suspect she has a soft heart from him,and felicia, when she is well written, and not just a look at my gorgeous tit hoe, although it may sound cool i dont see spiderwoman from NA,as suitable,i see them more like..step brothers.

I would really like it. It's like Peter was not mature enough before for their couple to work and would now be (I liked the interaction in the Marv Wolfman issue where they have a one-night stand). I know that will never happen because most fans and professionals would disagree.

I'd actually like to see something like that to have happened in the movies. I know most people will disagree with me here but with heroes like Spider-Man I'd like to have the love interests switched up from time to time.

I don't think it would have been better for Peter Parker to get married at eighteen. It would be a lousy marriage, which might make for an interesting What If?

You're right. Marriage wouldn't have been better at all, and would have destroyed the Hobgoblin saga! Besides, Pete was such a dork with Betty in the beginning. He practically offered her up to Ned Leeds on a platter! I think a relationship between the two would go much better now.

But this thread just goes to show how BND has got people thinking about possibilities....

Personally, I say bring back Gwen and throw them all in the mix! Pete's fun when he's being simultaneously loved and hated by every hot girl in town...

He was much more than eighteen when they had that one-night stand. That was around the time he graduated from college, so more like 22. But yes, it would work now whereas it couldn't then. We could have a storyline where they grow fond of each other and each think "I'm not going to fall in love, we're just friends" I guess I'd have to become a mega-successful writer because nobody's going to pitch it and get away with it.

Well, it's been implied that Betty will be stepping up in the Spidey universe again in the near future. She made an appearance in the first BND issue, and if her search for Peter's apartment didn't scream "potential love interest" I don't know what does.

I wouldn't look for Pete to get too serious with anyone in the near future, but I think Betty and Pete will hint at a relationship...

I think Cyberman was coming from the same place that I was in thinking that the only time Betty and Peter seemed like they were getting serious was when she was his first girlfriend. So the 18 number comes from the Lee/Ditko run, which is around how old Peter was since he graduated high school early on.

Hello guys, new poster here. Spider-Man has always been one of my favourite characters, but I have to admit I've had an off/on reading interest in the books. Just out of curiosity, where was it ever implied that Peter and Betty had a one night stand?

During Marv Wolfman's run in the late 70s. Betty's couple is not going so well, Peter has just been ditched by MJ and they spend time together. Next time Ned Leeds is furious at Peter and smacks him in the face. (ASM 183-195)

I think they need to bring someone new into the mix. A whole new love interest, a whole new character....It's abt time they refreshed his supporting cast.

As for a 'super' love interest, Black Cat has been done, and I really don't see Silver Sable fitting into Spideys world in that way....there was some nice flirting between Spidey and Spiderwoman in the earlier New Avengers issues, so I could see that working. Maybe Firestar, or someone else completely out of left field.

Firestar is a bit barely legal for Pete. Besides, the whole point of breaking him up with MJ wasn't to get him shacked up with someone he's already been romantically linked to before. What would be the point of that? Besides, it's too early for the Black Cat to be wondering why she can't remember what Spider looks like under the mask.

Seriously, if Spidey needs some new tail to shack up with, better it be fresh.

Actually, Amazing Spider-Man #189 implies--but is not explicit--that a one night stand did take place:

That "discretion is the better part of valor" coming right after Peter and Betty's kiss pretty much can translate that SOMETHING more than tonsil hockey was going on between the two. And remember, Betty, even though separated, is still married to Ned Leeds!

When I said 'Black Cat has been done', I meant its old news, and they should try something fresh. Like someone he hasn't been connected to. Like Firestar (which was just an example, anyways)...

As for Firestar, looking at the Civil War - Frontline issue she was in(# 1?), she is a little older than 'barely legal'...hasn't she graduated college and been a member of the Avengers. She's gotta be around 25 by now, and Spidey is supposed to be around 30-35, if I remember rightly. The age gap isn't that bad.
