I really had no clue where I should put this thread, but I figured Marvel created it, so put it it the Marvel Universe thread. So I was wondering if anybody has checked out any of the Marvel Illustrated and what you guys thought. I went out and bought the first two issues of The Picture of Dorian Gray the other day and thought it was amazing. Oscar Wilde is my favorite writer, and that's my favorite book, so to have it in comic form is amazing. I thought also, that so far they have followed the story very well. Also just wondering if any of the others are worth trying as well.

Never saw Dorian Gray on the stand so I couldn't check it out../

I've been thinking about picking up Moby Dick... though to be honest the art on the inside has never lived up to the promise of the cover art...

I think Marvel Illustrated has been pretty good so far. Last Of The Mohicans was a pretty solid adaptation and Treasure Island was absolutely excellent...although the art could've been a bit better. Nonetheless, that didn't spoil my enjoyment of what was an awesome mini-series. Every issue took me back 25 years, to when I was reading the book as a kid.

As for the latest two series, I’m loving The Picture Of Dorian Gray but The Iliad just didn't do it for me at all. I mean, I love Greek Mythology and although I generally prefer The Odyssey to The Iliad as a book, I was still really excited about Marvel's adaptation of it. But after two issues I've just dropped it from my pull list.

It's hard to say why I didn't like it though...I mean, the art was good and the writing certainly seemed strong and pretty faithful to the book but it just bored me. The first issue left me cold but I knew it was time to dump it when I began skipping pages while reading issue #2. I just found it soooooo boring. :(

It's a shame because other than that, I've been really loving the Marvel illustrated comics. I have a nagging feeling that they probably don't sell very well though. I think there's only one other person who has it in their pull list at my LCS. I really hope Marvel don't scrap it.

By the way, did anyone read The Man In The Iron Mask? What was that like?

I'm really hoping they'll do a Sherlock Holmes series soon...maybe The Hound Of The Baskervilles or something? :)

Marvel Illustrated has been a little iffy to me. The Iliad is great! It certainly helps me visualize events that occur in the book, which I am currently reading. I actually started reading the book after reading the comic, giving me a better appreciation for how accurate the comic can be at times.

However, The Man in the Iron Mask was confusing, to say the least. I've never read the novel, but the story seemed to do little with the Man in the Iron Mask himself. There's no battle for the throne or shocking revelations. And the last issue seems completely disjointed from those before it. It was really disappointing.

I'm looking forward to Moby Dick, though.

I think everybody should pick up Dorian Gray, and I have been thinking about the Iliad, I've never read it, so I figured I would. Hopefully as a follow up the release The odyssey as well.

Yeah, I'd like to see the Odyssey done as well, although I'd approach it with some trepidation after not really liking The Iliad.
