Put this in here b/c a lot took place in 52 and a CD spin off:
I was out of DC comics for years and have been back in hardcore for the past two years and my lve for Black Adam had returned. He is one of my favs in all comics, but then he goes off the deep end and then gives his powers away, I'm so bummed. I wish they could find a clone of Black Adam on a diffrent Earth and bring him back. Anyone else have love for BA??

I've been readin that it's great, but I beleive it takes place before he gave his powers to Mary Marvel (at least thats my theory, but I'd love to be wrong and see him back eventually)

I miss happy Black Marvel and Isis and Osiris and Sobek. I miss the Black Marvel Family. What I don't miss is the stereotypically angsty, dark, brooding Black Adam from Johns' JSA or Tomasi's Black Adam mini-series. Seeing him regain a sense of family and replace the now tarnished Marvel Family was one of the greatest parts of 52.

I liked that as well but both he and Hulk do share that common style of tragedy that's become something of a cycle for them.

I think it's more acceptable for the Hulk because, for forty-something years, that has been his characterization. Black Adam's only been a solidly written character for a little less than a decade. I'd love to have seen a nice, long period of happiness in his life before the eventual, horrible shattering. Though I would've loved to see another year or so of the Hulk happy and in love with a queen and a prince before the craziness of World War Hulk happened, too. As it is, I don't have a whole lot to feel for Black Adam. He's just a cyclical, stereotypically angsty anti-hero character.

I agree with you all the way. I wish he would have been with his family for a while and the same with Hulk before they both went off the deep end. I loved Black Adam because he was able to show kindness, but not affraid to bust some ass when needed, almost like Hulk, but with a little more control.

In regards to having a longer lasting happiness before it's taken away, yeah I can agree with that. I did love that whole aspect in 52 with the Black Adam family and the Sivana family.

I think a ongoing of BA and his family would have been pretty decent sales wise and story wise, then we could have seen the massacre.

Black Adam as a peer of Superman, ruling his own country, had sooo many stories in it!
Black Adam is yet another classic member of the "Marvel" family that has been ruined by DC over the last 10 years.
It's sad and more than a bit pathetic to look at

Of course, eventually, a character like Black Adam would have every last scrap of happiness in his life taken from him again, because nobody can do anything fun for too long nowadays; but yeah, I didn't really care a whole lot when Osiris and Isis died because the cute, fun happiness they all had was so short-lived it really didn't matter. Less so than that, but similar, when Hulk's ship blows up his city on Sakaar and kills his wife and kid I didn't really care, because the happiness Hulk had with her was so brief, it served only to further the revenge story arc. Though, personally, I found and still find Hulk's revenge on Earth far more interesting and entertaining than Black Adam's ridiculous killing spree...

I don't know if it would've sustained sales for that long, but I guarantee a Johns-written Black Marvel Family book would've been a modest success as either an ongoing with an eventual, planned ending or a mini-series. Plus, it would've been nice to have one Marvel Family in the DCU that didn't suck a hairy ass.
And he eats people!
Oh, yes, and he eats people! :D Because he wasn't dark and broody enough, he just had to chow down on a Sherpa. :p
Black Adam as a peer of Superman, ruling his own country, had sooo many stories in it!
They did that, and really he only had the one story: liberating his homeland and walking the line between freedom fighter and dictator. Just like Dr. Doom or Namor. Meh! The idea of him happy with a family of superheroes and a talking pet crocodile was a lot more original and within the vein of his history as a character in the Captain Marvel mythos.

What'd you think of how he was handled in 52, Rick? Before the inevitable, unoriginal conclusion to his story, that is.

Yes. But I do mean that a) a country ruled by an equal to Superman has a lot of world-building potential.
And b) the implications of it are interestng. What does Superman think of this? Batman? Luthor? Are any of them going to take steps? What if one of their villaings is granted asyleum there?
What do normal people think about the first time a "superhero" just takes a country for himself?

They did that, too, or rather they created that opportunity and didn't do anything with it. Anyone remember Xandia? An entire country of super-villains. They even had an Olympic team! :p

That is what made it so tragic. I liked him as a hero with JSA too. He was great. The Black Marvel family was the highlight of the run. I wish they would have done a bit more with them. But it was incredible when they killed them off. The Black Adam mini series has been nothing short of amazing. I just hope Black Adam isn't ignored once everything is done.
As for the rest of the Marvel family. I really don't care anymore. Pretty much everything they have done with them has beed average at best. I would have prefered to see them ignored for a few more decades than continue with the trash that is going on now.

I believe Black Adam will be back, like, soon. Mary is not powered anymore, and Adam is still out there and at large.

Black Adam made 52 for me. He was such a fantastically complicated character, with loads of power and he really came into his own. I wanted more but it's good for him to have time off before his next big story, because villains go stale if they are popping up every week, like Joker did at one time.

Black Adam made 52 for me.
I concur. I loved that part in issue 16 where he notices that he has a receding hairline and is jittery before his wedding. It was such good character writing.
DC ought to use him sparingly, though.

Black Adam Has always been a favorite of mine, 52 gave Adam the spotlight and did some good things with him & Isis. I didn't care for WWIII too much, The events in that story happened way too fast for me. The mini was awesome, I hope DC doesn't play out Adam the way Marvel did Magneto.

i think, his suit is old fashion..
maybe if DC trying to make another BA in other universe,
BA should be more modern... :D

Black Adam is not about modern. He's a man of the past in a future where the Wizard appointed someone else to be his champion. Black Adam is a man out of his time.
And I hate "modern" costumes. What's next, they are going to get Superman's underwear inside his pants? God bellow...

I wrote a quiz on Black Adam on Funtrivia.com. It's "52" heavy, but I tried to make it an intro to the character.

The mini series is fantastic. I would love to see it become a monthly book.

I absolutely miss Black Adam! I think I developed a bit of a crush on happy Black Adam. I was shocked when his family was killed. Even as he was ripping through millions of people, I kept thinking "Poor Adam!" :evilsmile

Yeah, that was really good character work from the writers that enabled us to feel that way about him, when he started World War 3.
When he was stripped of his power I really felt for him.
