OK, first off, you do not need to have read the first two books of this series to enjoy it (http://madbastard.hypersites.com/site/page/pg3392-pn_Johnny_Hiro_3.html). What Fred Chao, artist and writer, does is take some classic elements from Pacific Rim and pull them together in an odd, funny, charming story. Some of these are mundane, such as the immigrant experience or what it's like to be young and poor, while some are fantastic and ridiculous, such as giant lizards, kung fu waiters and ronin business men. All in all, it's funny and well worth the three bucks.

I just read all three issues and I agree that they are funny and enjoyable. The issues are all top quality too with the art and paper stock. I was impressed. I'm slightly saddened by Chao's note at the end of the third issue but I'll cherish what I have right now. I had people reading over my shoulder on the bus ride home.

I did the same... bought all 3 issues on suggestion of The Buy Pile. They were all definitely enjoyable, and I liked that they are stand-alone issues but with an ever-evolving back-story. Very nice. The art was wonderful too... and, although the books looked pretty, I really dislike the production style. It makes it very difficult to read if you care, at all, about the condition of the books. I know that's kind of a loser complaint, but I like to keep my comics pretty if possible.

As much as I long for newsprint comics back, however, I think this comic would have suffered had it been presented on newsprint instead of the high-quality stock that it was given. So I'm kind of torn on this one.

The note at the end was definitely bittersweet. But it was great in that I really felt like it made Johnny Hiro a work of love by the author as opposed to a moneygrab or a corporate mandated story. Best of luck, and I hope to see the comic back on the stands soon.

Anyway... very fun book and, as MadBastard said, well worth the $3.

(This, by the way, is the first AdHouse book I've purchased)

(This, by the way, is the first AdHouse book I've purchased)Mine too. I am thinking about picking up Superior Showcase. I see a third issue is coming out in June. That'll give me plenty of time to read the first two issue. ;)
