I think it'd be interesting if he came back. I'd like to see that, actually. Hobgoblin is a good villain, and he hasn't been seen in a looong time, and I'd like him to make an appearance. Anyone else?

Or, if we can't have Hobby, I want to see Peter take on Norman--Norman is my favorite Green Goblin (AND my favorite Spidey villain). I want a good, old fashioned Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin fight. I've been itching for one for a long while now.

Look at the current story arc that is taken place within the pages of Amazing Spider-girl, the Daughter of Spider-man and heroine of the MC-2 universe for the return of the Hobgoblin. :D

The REALLY cool thing about Hobgoblin was the whole issue about his identity... once that was revealed (and it done in a messed up way that unfortunately needed to be retconned later) a lot of the fun of the character vanished.

That said, I do think now is a good time to return Hob Goblin. In the past, he was somewhat redundent once the Green Goblin returned, but now Norman is occupied elsewhere. The fact is, Norman is arguably a BETTER character outside of the costume.

How long has it been now since Hobgobling starred as a Spider-Man foe?

Secret War doesn't count btw.

Again I suggest AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL AND SPIDER-GIRL for the return of the Hobgoblin. :p

No love for Jason Mackendale...who had about several different distinctions

Handmedowngoblin

Pedogoblin (Masques)

Schizogoblin (split from Demogoblin)

Hamilgoblin (FOX Cartoon)

Technogoblin (Clone Saga)

RoastGoblin (Hobgoblin Lives):p

If the decks are cleared then I suspect that Hobgoblin is out there waiting in the wings somewhere. I'd also say that this retcon should pretty much eliminate the Clone Saga...

Who needs any of 'em when Mephisto can just wipe 'em all out if Peter wants his DVD player fixed?

I believe you say about Ned Leeds, right? Cause for a moment there I was freaked out, believing that they retconed Stern's story...

Anyway, I love almost any kind of Goblin! I would really like to see him return, or someone explore the new Goblin in Secret War. But it would be a shame, since I won't read Spider-Man for quite some time, so brink him back now, I would be sad... who knows how he has changed.
Anyway. I also loved Machandale. He wa such a loser, and one dimensional, but that was good one him, in a really strange way. I mean you could always understand his motives, there were never noble, nor did he believed in anything. Heck, I liked even the cyber Hobgoblin!!!!! And Demogoblin is so awesome, I hoped he was back. He can be used in other heroes as well, he does not have to be a Spidey villain.

In a way, I liked Mackendale even better than the previous Hobgoblin (whoever he happens to be this week.) :p

Demogoblin also had a really good visual and some decent villainous roles. I wish they would have kept that guy around too.

But let's not forget one of the most noteworth Hobgoblins EVER! Wade Wilson aka Deadpool. ... okay, actually he was only shown as Hob once in a flashback and he ruined the job he was hired to do, but it was funny.

While I've been getting my Hobgoblin fix from the superb Amazing Spider-Girl, I do feel that it's about time that he came back to the main Marvel Universe. Come September this year it'll be exactly 10 years since the original Hobgoblin was last seen in the main Spider-Man comics.

I've come up with two theories that he'll return this year in either Jeph Loeb and J. Scott Campbell's Spider-Man project or Dan Slott and John Romita Jr's upcoming Amazing Spider-Man arc. They're both high profile writers and artists and they could have the wits to bring Hobgoblin back with a bang.

None whatsoever. ;)

Who needs Hobgoblin when we have Menace?!

This is why we're unlikely to see the Hobgoblin anytime soon. With Harry magically back from the grave and a new Goblin-themed bad guy soon to debut, Kingsley suiting up as the Hobgoblin again would be Goblin overkill. I'd prefer that he not come back for a throwaway one-issue beatdown from Spidey, so if there's no room at the moment for a lengthy story involving his return, then it's better he remain in his well-earned Caribbean retirement. As my favorite Spidey baddie, I was pleased that Kingsley was one of the few to "get away with it" and retire comfortably, not having been made to pay for his crimes and schemes. :D

I do dig his current MC2 appearances in Spider-Girl, though. Love those art homages to his initial ASM appearances back in the 80s.

Roger Stern (Hobby's creator) is on an Unnamed Marvel Project. Make's you wonder don't it?

As much as i love Hobgoblin,i don´t want any of these guys(especially Loeb)near him.
There are only 2 guys that know how to write Kingsley.
Roger Stern of course, and DeFalco,so uness they plan on assign them to Amazing Spider-Man(this is the only thing that would make come back to the book)leave Hobgoblin alone.

He's a fantastic villain, so if anyone has a new story for him I'd love to see it.

He has probably become redundant since Osborn's return, but with the Green Goblin on the Thunderbolts there is now an opening for Kingsley.

I'd be perfectly fine if Norman Osborne never became the Green Goblin agian.

As Norman Osborne, he actually comes off as more an A list villain being the brillaint rich manipulator (sort of like a Lex Luthor). Slap on the mask and have him droppoing bombs on you and he just becomes another freak.

What's wrong with Goblin overkill? Bring out all the goblins for a storyline, heck, let's bring out the Jack o'Lanterns too while we're at it.

Blight

The thing is though one point in the 90s we did have Goblin overkill. We had three Goblins running around. It was like every month at Marvel one of them would be appearing in a Spider-book.

Plus Macendale while being one dimensional was just so used every single time jobbing to Spidey or Moon Knight, Darkhawk, Green Goblin IV (Phil), or Ghost Rider.

If you really think about it. There's been like Five Green Goblins, Four Hobgoblins, a Gray Goblin, ProtoGoblin, and Demogoblin. Now we got Menace.. that's 14 GOBLINS not even counting the Jack O'Lanterns or Jackal.

And about eight of them came where running around during the 90s (Jason, Demo, Harry, Phil, Norman, Roderick, Proto, and the Nameless Clone).

How many Goblins are there. Let's find out.

Green Goblins
Norman Osborn
Harry Osborn
Nels Van Adder
Bart Hamilton
Phil Urich
unnamed guy

Hobgoblins
Roderick Kingsley
Lefty Donovan
Ned Leeds
Jason Macendale
Deadpool
unknown Hobgoblin from Secret War

Unique Goblins
Demogoblin
Protogoblin
Gray Goblin
Hobgoblin 2211

That puts us at 16 and these are just the ones in the mainstream marvel universe.

I'm still surprised we know jack about the unknown Hobgoblin and he's already had two stories involving him where he was but a second fiddle to the major story (Secret War and Spidey & Red Sonja).

Come on already tell us his backstory other than he's a Macendale wannabe.

I just listed "unnamed guy" as a Green Goblin, but it's possible that there were two seperate fill in Green Goblins. We know one of them was a clone (We don't know of who, but it was a clone of somebody) and it seemed when the next time a substitute Goblin showed up, he was acting a bit different, but since we know nothing about the character(s) we can't say for sure if it was a different guy or not.
