Did this book ever come out and I missed it? The Titans East special had the setup and announcement of Titans #1, but I never saw it.

I think they're hoping we'll forget how utterly, obscenely terrible the special was. It's quite hard to get anyone excited for The Titans after that mind-numbing debacle.

Because Churchill got injured after the special and thus would have issues drawing on a consistent basis for the titans title and hes the best artist for the job so they want to keep him.

The only one that clearly died was powerboy due to the new gods storyline going on, everyone else is supposed to be okay and in the hospital.

Yes, it was pure suck. At the end of Titans East, Cyborg comes to the aid of all the Titans only to find them all dead. Then, a magic laser beam that's super huge comes down out of the sky. In the panel, the art shows that the laser would hit Vic head first. The thing is, in the final panel, Vic's head and spinal cord? remain, meaning, that even though the laser hit Cyborg head first, it destroyed him from the ground up.

Disapointing especially because the regular series has been pretty enjoyable for a while

on the note of the next Titans..they already tried the "assembling all the (former teen) Titans" series before..why again?

Because they keep trying to recapture lightning in a bottle that the Wolfman-Perez team had. All of the previous attempts, IMO, have started off with good premises and just lost steam quickly. I liked the way Greyson set up the new dynamic with Tempest as treasurer, etc. but that went downhill fast.
