I know this is wierd, but I've been looking all over the interwebs for a book Jenn had as a child and desperately wants for our little Kent and I don't know where else to look.
If anyone remembers this book or has any ideas about where to look it would be much appreciated.

To the best of her recollection, it was a collection of fairy tales (mostly if not all Hans Christian Anderson) and the cover had a person on horseback with a tree in the background. The cover was bluish she thinks. The art is reminiscent of Yoshitaka Amano's work (Final Fantasy/Vampire Hunter D guy). She had it at some point in the early 80's.

Thanks in advance everybody.

I would recommend "Patrick the Wolf Boy" by Art "Tiny Titans" Balthazar.

It would help if there was a little more to go with. Does she remember some of the stories included? Any other details about the book worth mentioning?

You do know that pregnant women just make random crap up don't you? It's part of their "condition." ;)

I suggest going here:

http://www.antiqbook.co.uk/boox/ste/books6000.shtml

They have a pretty big collection. Very few of them have cover art up, so she'll have to look up the individual artist for each printing and see which one's style most closely matches what Jen remembers.

I didn't know the book... so I thought I'd suggest something else.

There are a lot of nicely illustrated Hans Christian Andersen collections I can point you to. There are also a lot of Fairy Tale collections that include Andersen and others that I can point you to.

I've tried to find something that matches your description by doing a google search of fairy tale collection cover art and I've found stuff with trees but no horses.

If the art is what is key than these won't help but if it is the stories that matter, one of these should do the trick:

except it's a stag not a horse

This collection was published in 2006 though and does not contain The Darning Needle.

Maybe one of these will do. I think the version she wants from the 80's is out of print. Used bookstore time if she absolutely must have that specific one.

I think I know that book! Seriously, I think it was called "Best-Loved Folktales from Around the World."

I remember reading it from my library. You're in luck because I think it might be back in print but it has a different cover now.

You should go here: http://loganberrybooks.com/stump.html

That's the "Stump the Bookseller" page at Loganberry Books. They've been solving mysteries like this for years now. Browse thru the "already solved" ones and see if your book is there. If not, send them $2 and they'll post it on the site for people to try to identify. They've developed a community of very knowledgeable users, including some retired children's librarians who can recognize books by the kind of description given in the original post.

Dean's A Book of Fairy Tales!

Its a very pretty book... she and I have very differing opinions of what looks like Yoshitaka Amano's work.. but she hadn't seen it in years. I'm just soooo relieved to have found it for her.

Rob THANK YOU so much for the link... that is where we eventually found it. You are a life saver! Thanks to everyone who took the time to help.
Hope everyone is having a great Monday. Or at least a survivable one. :)

You're welcome, Ringslinger! I'm delighted that you found the book there. It's a terrific site; I recommend it whenever a question like this comes up.

Stuff like this is one of the many good things about web communities. (Well, healthy web communities.)
