Part One: Let’s Tango (All takes place within a few seconds)
So basically I consider Mesmero and Damian Tryp to be my biggest threats at the start of the match. Mesmero is predictable, Tryp.. a little less so.
Marvel Girl immediately engages Tryp by hitting him with a telepathic attack. Damian has shown mental powers to a point, but nothing strong enough to suggest that he can completely block an attack from a telepath of Rachel’s caliber. Not to mention the fact that Rachel once again is owner of part of the phoenix force (albeit a very small part.) Tryp should be distracted enough where he can’t formulate an escape or counterattack.
ALSO! Right when the match starts I have several other characters that make a move right from the start. Kiden Nixon yells "Stop!" and works her time mojo. Kitty should not have been able to phase anyone yet since Kiden works at the speed of talking and Kitty would actually hace to reach for whomever was going to be phased. runs across the field and finds Mesmero, wherever he is. Jumping up, she raps Mesmero upside the head, hard enough to seriously knock him out, but not hard enough to kill him. Time starts normal again with the skin to skin contact and Mesmero drops to the ground due to head trauma.
Aurora and Ultragirl take to the air at the start and fly towards the opposing team. Aurora distracts Meltdown by zooming by her really fast and taunting her in French. If she can get in close enough, she will pull off a few punches, but he main goal is to distract. Ultragirl on the other hand has a different goal in mind. She quickly picks up large pieces of debris on the ground and lobs them at the ground in front Colossus, Madrox, and Shawcreating dust clouds that will stop them from being able to see as well.
Fatale, at the start of the match, bends light so she goes invisible. She grabs Amina Synge and teleports across the field over to Tryp’s locale. Amina, upon reaching the destination, sends out some of her soul stealing salamanders to confront Meltdown and Tryp. Fatale runs up to the distracted Tryp, being still invisible, and rams her poisoned dagger up through the roof of Damian’s mouth. If he’s not dead, the poison is going to deal some major damage. And if that didn’t take him down, Amina’s salamanders take his soul and render him comatose (see the first foursaken storyline). Meltdown also has fallen to Amina’s salamanders.
Dead Girl goes intangible and stays by Rachel to protect her. She will engage anyone that gets close.
Down for the count: Mesmero, Tryp, Meltdown
Part Two: A Party in the Outback
Fatale grabs hold of Amina and the two ‘port back across the field towards Marvel Girl. Amina sends out more salamanders to steal the souls of Madrox and any dupes he may have around. Ultragirl flies over and picks Amina up, going high into the sky to protect her from harm. Fatale runs after Kitty Pryde. The second Shadowcat goes solid, Pamela uses the element of surprise conferred by invisibility to jab her with a poisoned blade.
With Tryp down, Rachel turns her attention to Sebastian and Piotr. She breaks through his psi-defences and makes him believe that Shaw is Ord, and that whomever shaw is attacking is Illyana. Colossus already dislikes shaw and proceeds to attack him. Sebastian Shaw will defend himself, and in the past we know he can beat Piotr to a pulp. Which he may very well do.
Kiden Nixon picks up a rock from somewhere and hits the downed body of Tryp, just cause he’s such a bastard.
If somehow Meltdown is still around, Aurora just punches her upside the head, hard and fast. She’s so fast that Meltdown probably won’t be able to stop her. If Tabby is gone, Aurora starts beating up dupes.
If Damian Tryp is dead from Fatale’s knife wound, Dead Girl will raise his body as a zombie, which will promptly join the Colossus/Shaw fray. (Kiden Nixon will stop beating the body if this happens.)
Adios To: Tryp, Mesmero, Colossus, Meltdown, Madrox (at least some of his dupes), Shadowcat (possibly)
Part Three: The Menage a Trois Clean-up
Amina (still high in the air) uses this time to steal the souls of Colossus and Shaw. This may seem like a lot, but in UXM 473 she captures what appears to be hundreds of souls from citizens of Washington DC.
Rachel psychically assaults anyone who is left standing on the other team. If Kitty is still around, she gets her when Ms. Pryde becomes tangible.
Aurora is still on speed clean-up duty.
Dead Girl goes intangible and attacks anyone that bothers her with claws.
Fatale hacks up the remains of any people.
Kiden Nixon , having had time to rest. Stops time again and assaults anyone that is left standing on the other team, as long as its not Shaw. She then wanders off wishing that Layla Miller and her will someday be friends.

Stage 1 (simultaneously)
• Damian Tryp:
Tryp teleports to the middle of the battlefield and starts a tornado at the opposite end of the field so that it sweeps the opposing team off their feet leaving them flustered and in a state of confusion. With the other team confused Tryp confronts Aurora and manipulates her mind just enough to make her broken psyche break down so that Aurora will no longer be able to fight. To make sure that she stays out of the fight Tryp will beat her to a pulp with his augmented strength. Being the villain that he is he will not be afraid to kill someone.
• Mesmero:
Mesmero starts out teleporting right in front of marvel girl and looking directly into her eyes. (Mesmero had a suit that gave him the ability to teleport leaving a cloud of energy where he was standing) Carefully entering Marvel Girls mind, with extreme caution he takes control of her mind, gives her amnesia, and resets her personality with a bloodlust for her own teammates. He sends Marvel Girl over to take care of Kiden Nixon.
• Meltdown:
Tabitha, recently gaining more control over her powers, shoots concussive plasma beams towards Amina Synge before Amina has any time to release any of her ectoplasmic salamander-creatures, this should be enough to faze her or knock her unconscious. If it is not enough to knock her out Tabitha will keep throw some of her plasma bombs at her, and that should be enough to take her out of the battle.
• Multiple Man:
Multiple Man starts stomping his foot and slamming one fist against his had several times as to create 28 dupes. 5 of them stay with Sebastian Shaw to aid him and back him up, while another 5 head over to Colossus. The other 28 dupes and madrox prime charge over to Dead Girl and start attacking her.
• Sebastian Shaw:
Sebastian has the 5 dupes that are next to him start hitting him to gain strength. After several hits, Sebastian should have enough strength and will order the dupes to stop and stand next to him for added protection. The 6 of them, Shaw and 5 Multiple Man dupes, head over to Ultragirl and Shaw using his natural ability to taunt people to coerce her to fly over hit him. She has just given him more than enough energy to last the rest of the battle.
• Colossus:
Immediately Colossus transforms into his armored form, with the approaching 5 multiple men, he gets his stance. Once they arrive he starts tossing them in the air in Fatale’s direction, the dupes that are in the air will start snapping, and thus multiply into 10, landing on or near fatale and distracting/ overwhelming her. With the 15 Multiple Men distracting Fatale, Colossus can wait for Shadowcat to come and turn him intangible.
• Shadowcat:
Naturally at the beginning of the fight Kitty turns intangible, in this state she has a higher defense against psychics. Kitty heads over to Colossus. Upon reaching colossus she turns tangible long enough to told on to him and make them both intangible. Once they are both intangible, they go underground (Kitty holding her breath, and Colossus not, because he doesn’t need to) over to Fatale. While they are intangible and underground the 5 Madrox dupes still have Fatale distracted while Kitty and Colossus prepare for a sneak attack.
DEFEATS: Amina Synge and Aurora
Stage 2
• Mesmero:
With Marvel Girl still under his control, Mesmero has her lift Kiden Nixon telekinetically. Then using her telepathy she erases everything from Kiden’s mind so essentially she is brain dead and cannot fight, taking her out of the battle.
• Colossus:
With Fatale distracted, Colossus and Kitty, having only been underground for mere seconds, spring out of the ground, surprising Fatale. Kitty lets go mid-air and Colossus hits Fatale hard enough as to not kill her but just enough to knock her unconscious. (Colossus is a tender soul who doesn’t kill)
• Shadowcat:
After letting go of Colossus, Kitty flies (her version of flying is actually walking on air) over to Damian Tryp. Putting her arm around him she has just turned him intangible.
• Damian Tryp:
With Aurora taken out of the battle, Tryp turns his attention to Ultragirl who has already engaged into a fight with Shaw and the 5 following dupes. With Kitty turning him intangible Damian is safe from harm from Ultragirl. Tryp creates a forceful, yet small wind that blows downwards strong enough to slow Ultragirl down if not knock her down.
• Sebastian Shaw:
Sebastian has enough strength that while Ultragirl is knocked down he runs over and uses all his strength to hit her on the head, knocking her out if not killing her.
• Multiple Man:
All 29 Multiple Men (including Madrox prime) have been trying to attack Dead Girl, but knowing that she will turn intangible, they have had no success. She will be reduced to summoning zombies to help attack, so that will take care of some of the dupe’s attention. Mesmero, still in control of Marvel Girl (having just finished off Kiden Nixon) enters Dead Girls mind and shuts off her ability to turn intangible. No longer phased, one of the dupes (able to create one more dupe for league) take attack her at once, leaving her susceptible to a sneak attack from madrox prime. Once Madox prime reaches Dead Girl he will stick his hand in her mouth and stomp his foot to create a dupe in her body making her explode. All of the dupes find a body part of hers and run into the furthest corners of the battlefield, making it impossible for her to heal.
• Meltdown:
With everyone’s attention on Ultra Girl, Meltdown aims for Ultra Girl and with all the strength that she has left, fires the most powerful Plasma concussion beam she can. That combined with colossus, madrox prime, (the dupes still holding dead girls body parts in the furthest corners) and Sebastian Shaw pummeling her, and along with Damians winds keeping her under control, that should be enough to take care of Ultra Girl!
- FINAL NOTE- with everyone taken care of and Marvel girl still in the control of Mesmero, all our team needs to do is knock her unconscious, which shouldn’t be hard because she is under mesmero’s control.
DEFEATED: Marvel Girl, Fatale, Ultra Girl, Dead Girl, and Kiden Nixon.

I normally don't vote this hastily (and may still regret it), but I don't like how Pwood and Yoshi's whole strategy seems centered around the Mesmero move against Marvel Girl. First of all, he shouldn't have the teleportation ability, as he didn't the last time we saw him. But even if I cut them some slack there, he teleports himself right into the heart of a tornado. That means he wipes himself out of the match for a time. By the time he's back, Marvel Girl could've done a bunch of nasty stuff.
And even if I give them all of that, I'm not convinced that Mesmero has the ability to keep Rachel under enough control to do widely uncharacteristic things (like empty minds) or even hold her for long, given her heightened mental abilities and general level of willpower.

agreed, Mesmero taking over Rachel seems to be the basis of there plan, but if we are to try and fit the two strategies together, I would say that Kiden takes out Mesmero, leaving Rachel not under his control anymore. Also, AceofSpades uses Amina Synge alot to take down her opponents, but she is not mentioned till towards the end of phase 1, so I would say she is taken out by Meltdown before that.
this was a pretty good battle, and I am going to wait till probably tomorrow before I decide who I am voting for.

I agree, I don't see Mesmero controlling Rachel to start with, and Ace's opening moves look smart and effective. Pwood and Yoshi don't seem to have anticipated Fatale turning invisible, and that gives Ace a big advantage. I'm calling it for Ace

I want to spend more time later reading over both strategies carefully, but I do see one problem re: the use of Kiden Nixon. As I was disappointed to have pointed out to me after drafting her three years ago ;) , Kiden has never consciously turned her power on- it's always an unconscious reaction to a perceived threat. (I had to have Scalphunter threaten to shoot her every time I wanted to use her power.) So I can't see her just turning it on the way she does in Ace's strategy. But on the other hand, Pwood and Yoshi don't do much to take her down, relying on Marvel Girl to get controlled and not even targeting Kiden until the second round. Hmm... I need to read both strategies more closely later.

Thanks for clarifying that about Kiden. I was trying to think of a time she actually "used" her power, not it just happening.
This is gonna be a tough vote, Lucky just made it worse.

That's true, I had Kiden last year and I had to make Stacy X lesbian-kiss her in every match to give her the stress levels that activate her power.
I liked both strategies in this match, still unsure of whom to vote for. I REALLY REALLY liked Pwood and Yoshi's move on taking out my beloved Dead Girl, tho having a dupe explode/suffocate inside of her body should backlash at the other dupes as well, making it harder for them to run off to all directions holding Dead Girl's pieces (I was giggling the whole time bringing that mental image in my head!).
I'll have to consult with Novaya first, I guess.;)

I agree. Bad move against marvel girl. Plus Pwood and Yoshi should have done sth against Kiden instead of reyling heavily on the whole brainwash thing.

With Kiden, I figured that the whole battle sittuation alone was enough to let her trigger the ability. I mean the other team is pretty threatening in itself.

Stage 1 (simultaneously)
• Damian Tryp:

To make sure that she stays out of the fight Tryp will beat her to a pulp with his augmented strength. Being the villain that he is he will not be afraid to kill someone.
Rachel engages him at the start, so he should be too distracted to teleport. even if he does, Fatale commences her attack very quickly. He shouldn't have the chance to make the torando or assault Aurora
Kiden Nixon *should* have already taken him out. But even if that didn't work, Dead Girl is RIGHT there to take out Mesmero before he does anything to Rachel.
Fatale and Amina teleport at the start of the match. The plasma shouldn't have time to reach the two of them. Then Tabitha is one of Amina's primary targets, while Meltdown reorients to Amina's new position, Synge should already have "salamandered" her soul.
Plus, by this point, Aurora is already harassing Tabitha. Tabby is in no condition to blow up Amina
This , according the the chonology we both make would happen after Dead Girl has already assaulted Mesmero. So it shouldn't make that much of a difference. And she can become intangible to protect herself.
Shaw is choking on the dust and debris that Ultragirl , I don't know if he's going to be able to taunt very well.
Mesmero is taken down by Dead Girl (who has not been assaulted yet) when he teleports to Rachel
And Fatale is invisible, so the fastball specials have no target (but i do love that idea :) )

Both strategies were really good, but there were things I didn't like. AceOfSpades seemed to disregard a lot of the characters and sort of underestimated them, and I don't care much for the "STOP!" part. But I did like the citations and the overall unique use of powers. For Pwood and Yoshi, there's the whole overlooking of Fatale fiasco and the use of Marvel Girl. Their strategy was really well thought-out but as much as I love them, I gotta go for AceOfSpades. I HOPE YOU'LL STILL GIVE ME HOT MANSEX PWOOD. :(

I'm sorry Pwood/Yoshi I gotta vote for AceOfSpades. I don't buy that Mesmero will take out Rachel Grey. While I don't think Kiden can control her powers I still think Aces does enough, regardless of that move to stop yours. It's a great strategy on both sides I just think Aces does a little more to top you.

Pwood, you're awesome, but I had to vote AceofSpades. After careful consideration, I give this one to Ace. I don't like every aspect of his strategy - the Kiden Nixon thing, plus I doubt those dust clouds would be too effective - but overall his strategy is more comprehensive. Pwood and Yoshi make some good moves, but also seem to ignore major threats like Ultragirl till later and rely on unlikely events like Mesmero dominating Rachel. Still, good efforts both, and the strategies this year continue to be a lot of fun! :)

Sorry it took me so long of respond to everyone, I had to work and just got back. Don't be sorry about not voting for our team, its a game, you shouldnt be sorry!
Ok, I figured that mesmero would have the teleportation suit that he has shown before, but if he doesnt, he doesnt.
I agree I also did rely too much on Mesmero taking control over Marvel Girl, it was sort of a long shot. I guess I forgot that I said simultaneously because I wanted Mesmero to go after Rachael after the tornado had hit, but oh well.
This is my first Mutant League so im no too worried about a loss.
Thanks for the constructive criticism, we will digest it for our next battle!

For Pwood and Yoshi, there's the whole overlooking of Fatale fiasco
You mean this bit:
Fatale is invisible.. they ain't gonna find her.
From UXM.net's profile on Fatale's powers:
Able to bend light, space, and form, letting her teleport, turn invisible and alter her shape, laser cannons, plasma discharge gauntlets, retractable wrist spikes with poison tips.
Nowhere in the above sentence does it mention invisiblity.

It might've helped Pwood and Yoshi if they had referenced Marvel Girl's "Hound" brainwashing as a reason why she might be easily manipulated by Mesmero... but still, she has said, "NEVER AGAIN!" Of course, she says that every other year...

Yes, but since then she's also turned into a murderer claim "This is war." as an excuse.

Hmm, I deliberated for a little bit over this.
In the end, though, AceOfSpades' strategy seemed tighter. Kiden's powers might not work like they were portrayed, but I did giggle at her throwing rocks at Tryp's body. And Amina, Fatale and Ultragirl seemed to be in charge on the field (I love 'rams her dagger through the roof of his mouth' - graphic!) And Rachel would never be controlled so easily by Mesmero. Vote to AceOfSpades and that Summers-Grey kid <3. It was a very good match this time, though, pretty difficult to decide.

I'm voting Pwood and Yoshi. I do think it would be possibly for Mesmero to control Marvel Girl. For crying outloud, who hasn't controlled Marvel Girl? Mojo, Ahab, someone made her turn into a freakin' dinosaur, elias bogan. Rachel is a weak little cow and Mesmero is a towering green mind bender.

I am going with Ace because i dont think rachel goes down that easy and fatale can turn invisible. I dont know enough about kidden but i think the stress of battle might be enough to send her powers working and that with MG and should be enough

Final score is 29:9.
Congratulations, AceOfSpades, you move on to Game 10 where you'll face Greg Anderson & Mr. Kent next Tuesday, January 22.
Good job, Pwood & Yoshi. You move into the lower bracket where next Tuesday you'll face off against Brian M. & Beast, who have taken over for the forfeiting Speed.
Good luck!

Great job Pwood and Yoshi... after reading ur guys' strategy i was genuinly worried. Clearly this match also taught me a few things about my own team that I really needed to know (a.k.a Kiden Nixon's flaws)
Good luck you two, maybe we'll meet again later on in the tournement :D
