View Full Version : gambit most epic x-man
I just read an issue of x-men, showing gambit as the witness, with trophies from battles across time and space. Which other members do you see as being capable of reaching similar levels epicness on the scale of gambit as the witness.

I've never considered the Witness very epic, so... all of them, I guess.
Getting killed by the Marauders recently probably didn't help his epicness.

ahahahaha...
I don't really consider him as Witness as an epic character, I don't consider Gambit epic by himself, really.

Sometimes I think that in all likelihood he'll becomes the 90s equivalent of Longshot. Very popular for a few years, but not really deep enough in terms of character to stick around without being attached to an X-Female.

....words hurt, Sword. Words hurt. :(
(Besides, Longshot would be a great character if he could get away from the X-Men and back to the MU proper again.) :D

Cartoon Gambit was definitely totally romantic and could get the sheets wet, but comic Gambit barely gets my knickers wet.

BAH! Gambit rules! They just need to drop the Rogue/Gambit crap and get back to working on him being AWESOME.

I don't mean to do a disservice to Longshot - I thought he was great in the 80s, and was a big fan. But he got caught into that horrible convention of only ever being written as part of a couple, and never given the chance to become a broader, more interesting character.
Gambit suffers in a similar way. the Gambit/Rogue relationship has been a giant millstone around both characters necks. But Rogue has been given space to be developed. And while Gambit has had his own series - most of which I own, worryingly - the character didn't really get a great deal of growth for all the issues he was given.
Both longshot and Gambit are almost impossible to write as X-Men now, without extreme referencing and focus on their former other halves. Maybe a break into the MU would do both a favour. Really, I see that as the only way to improve and develop them.

Any character is good, when used by the write creative team. Gambit rocked in the 90's....that doesn't mean he was only useable then....it just means in the early 2000's onward people didn't know how to properly use him. I have faith Carey'll make him rock and/or roll again.

Storm. She was ancient sorceress, alternative sorceress, thief, mutant leader, etc. She is truly epic. If Marvel would put out a Book of Storm detailing her life and lives chonologically, we would see that she is truly one of a kind.

When and where? I think she has better taste and standards than Gambit. If she did, it must have been charity work or slumming.

Depends how you look at it, they've made her kiss everyone at least once in some alternate universe or something... In one such universe she let Wolverine bag her and get her pregnant only because they couldn't get back to earth.
So a Remy Ororo connection could have been possible.

The horror, the horror............................................ ..................
I always thought that a child by Wolverine and Storm would effectively be a god. He would be able to control the weather and energy patterns like Storm and almost impossible to kill like Wolverine.

Well,
a.) WOlverine's only been nigh unkillable for a few recent years. I still say his Healting Factor is RIDICULOUSLY exaggerated nowadays.
b.) Often two mutant parents kids have powers nothing like either parent, or not even powered at all.
c.) it'd be one damn ugly kid.

Her name was Tempest, and she had her mother's weather controlling powers but her father's ferocity (and fangs). Check out the final issue of What If...? for a great story about the children of the original Secret Wars characters.

The x-side of this board disgust me. Lot's of unfunny people with horrible opinions.
Gambit's still very popular & DOES NOT SUCK, don't let the internet influence you too much.
LOL @ the Longshot comparison, way off.

I have to agree I have been on a lot of comic boards and this one is the worst for Gambit hating. But if you can ignore it, it is a pretty good board.

I've always liked Gambit outside of the comic book media. In cartoons and video games he's always been one of my favorite. I never got to read to much about him in the comics because I wasn't reading the x-books in the 90's. I spent all my money on anime related things and video games. So I never got to really know comic Remy, though I've heard stories about various exploits with him.

Pre Uncanny X-MEN 350 Gambit was Badass he was awesome but the trial sucked balls what was gonna be a huge dark secrete Remy kept from the X-Men turned out to be something lame, then when he returned he returned as Rogues Bitch gettin lectures an mistrust from Onslaught (Xavier), Dark Phonix (Jean Grey),Weapon X (Wolverine) an ex terrorist who ran with the brotherhood of EVIL Mutants (Rogue) Magneto (Joesph) i mean the freekin X-Men left him to die granted it was Rogue who did it the X-Men never went and looked for him an what does Gambit do he comes crawling back apologizing for her leaving him to die, no one has written him good untill recently in MC so i understan all the Gambit haters, an i fear for his future under Carey cause hes the only X-writer who has'nt written him well since his return all he does in 204 is sit with Rogue sayin he's sorry AGAIN and in 205 he got Mauled by Wolverine the future does not look bright for him

I consider Havok to be the most epic X-man, he has done and seen it all. I don't think most people would consider him to be the choice based on his B-player standing but being a rostered member of the X-men during three formative times (Thomas era as a follower and student, Claremont outback era as a team member, and Austen big team era as a leader) has shown him in every light an X-man can be.
You then have his membership with X-factor where he was the leader for a legally established team, he had a pretty solid run until he turned evil and took over the Brotherhood of Evil mutants. And although Howard Mackie killed the character you can't ignore Mutant X which was a very solid solo series. His time in Mutant X had him span the entire Marvel Universe (and do a very good job of it).
Finally you have him as a Starjammer (a role I would love to see him continue) where he could deal with all the cosmic stuff. Other characters have had more issues (Wolverine, Storm, and Gambit) or been on more teams (Beast, Angel, Wolverine) but I think that Havok has gotten the most milage out of his role as an X-man.

Actually, she would've spread herself quicker den butter on bread, but Gambit had to calm her down and let her know his heart belongs to Rogue ;)

Yeah that kind of pissed me off when I saw him gettin beaten by Wolverine I was like. "How the F--- did he even get over there, he was just fighting Random." I have no reason to believe Gambit is the god of war, but I'm pretty sure he can hang with people like Wolverine on pure speed and agility alone, there shouldn't have been away Wolvie jacked him up that bad. However the fact that he doesn't die makes me some what hopeful.
