I'm somewhat confused. I might have missed something. The last time I looked - Eclipso had blasted Mary Marvel and left her in space.

In Countdown to Mystery 4 - Mary and Eclipso duke it out and Mary cleans Eclipso's clock with the magic lightning and separates the essence of E from Loring who goes to swim the sharks. The diamond gets broken. E then ends up inside his old male host and again gets his clock cleaned by the Spectre.

Not a bad story but how did the M and E fight occur when I thought it was over.

What about Jean - still nuts, eaten by the fishes or what?

The main fight took place over in the Countdown issue. The end of the fight and it's aftermath took place in the Countdown to Mystery.

Jean was separated from Eclipso and last seen falling towards the Earth. Mary gives up her powers falls to earth and washes up onto Paradise Island.

I hated that they put the Eclipso part first and then put the Dr. Fate part last.

That was a dumb move, I'd rather Dr. Fate just have his own book without these stupid tie ins.

At any point during this whole Mary Marvel going evil situation did her brother or Freddy (new Captain Marvel) ever show up to check in on her, worry about her, or try to talk (or beat) some sense into her?

Me, too, but this was done in order to accomodate writer Steve Gerber's health problems, which are making it difficult for him to produce a monthly Dr. Fate. The compromise is worth it to get a full arc of Gerber's Fate, as far as I'm concerned. And Eclipso might even get good now that we're back to the classic version of the character.

Nah, I think Jean as Eclipso is MUCH better. I mean, c'mon, if you are going to tempt someone to turn to evil, why are you going to use a ugly man's form? I would't be tempted by a ugly evil man. A gorgerous evil woman increases the chances, I'm sure.

I am going to give DC latitude on this one. It is my understanding that countdown is going on at the exact time as the Trials, so Freddy isn't at the point yet where he could really do anything (right now he doesn't have the full set of powers). Marvel seems sort of pre-occupied with the Trials. And there is the wild card of Black Adam stepping back in possibly and affecting things. And if you think about it, Marvel should have stepped in once Adam got the powers back and if he had, Adam would never have been able to give them to Mary (I say this because WW3 and the end of 52 made removing and blocking Adam from his powers a HUGE deal).

So I just think there are a lot of stories going on concurrently and DC is going to provide some tie-together probably by end of Countdown. I also think DC is trying to avoid the Marvel waves his hand and fixes everything deus-ex-machina (or at least delay it until the character development, etc. has occurred). Not even sure if Marvel can do this now, since DC is very vague on the impact that "re-writing the books of magic" has had on these types of things.

On the basis of some recent cameo appearances by Freddy, there's a good chance that his Trials story concluded before Countdown and before the Black Adam miniseries.
