Anole. Absolutely. Coolest visual and coolest powers of all the New X-Men in my opinion.

The kid was a fan favorite when he only had like, 5 lines ever. And now that he's a main stay? He flippin' rocks.

Lets look at all the reasons Anole is better than everyone else in the entire world:
1. HE'S GREEN. He has a great physical mutation. He looks so cool.
2. DIVERSE POWERS. He has so many cool powers. Super tongue, wall climbing, super agility, camoflague, super strength, and regeneration!
3. HE'S SMART. He studies up on X-Men history and knows his shyt.
4. HE'S GAY. Yup, I said it. I think Anole is cooler cus he's gay. How many homosexuals do we have? Not that many.
5. HE BEAT UP ROCKSLIDE. 'Nuff said.

I think Layla broke out in 2006, when X-Factor was going through its first year. We all saw how flippin' awesome she was back then. She has continued to be awesome this year, but she didnt really break out, ya know? Thats why I think Anole is the clear winner.

Tough choice between Anole and Pixie, but, I've just been digging Anole a lot more. Green dude who can camaflouge, has a crazy tongue plus loads of other radical powers and knows his X-Men stuff. Defo the breakout star this year IMO.

Yes, yes it is. But I do hear the concerns. 2006's Breakout character was more focused on "newer" characters. I made no such stipulations for 2007. If the X-Board fans feel that Layla has been a "breakout character" this year, then that's why she's getting the votes, and why she got the nomination...so thus far, Layla has had 2 breakout years.....if the votes continue the way they are. BTW, I voted for Anole myself. ;)

Breakout once to doubtful X-Factor fans and then to the wider audience of Messiah Complex. I'm sure there are a lot of people who were introduced to Layla Miller from Messiah Complex or at least only knew her from House of M.

That's actually a pretty reasonable explanation. I like it.

Honestly, Madrox had more of a "breakout" this year than Layla... too bad he wasn't an option so the NXM fans wouldn't be the only side splitting their votes. ;)
