View Full Version : So why was it called INFINITE crisis?

What was so Infinite about it? Was it because there were Infinite Earths that Alex was sifting through to create his perfect Earth? Or because it raised an infinite amount of continuity revisions/additions?

Because "Multiple Crisis" didn't sound edgier, of course. Marketing is everything.

Probably because of the Alex sifting through all the earths and such. Dunno if it was infinite earths but then again it may be just part of the event brand name DC likes to use.
To make it clear that the whole thing was a, sadly inadvertant, self-parody.

Because DC will forever be having a crisis trying to string together something that resembles a comic event.

Because of the number of tie-ins and crossovers.

Because it was a sequel and a twentieth-anniversary commemoration of Crisis on Infinite Earths, and DC wanted a similar title.

What kind of answer is that? Because it's a sequel it can use the same words and not have any meaning?

The DC entered a state of infinite crisis, as everything hit the fan at once. Also, the infinite earths returned for one night only. So, yeah, I think the title was apt. Not perfect, but it worked.

They should have just gone with "Another Crisis on Infinite Earths" or "Crisis on Infinite Earths 2"
The amount of multiverse teeth were infinite in number.

At least from a factual standpoint, he's been the most accurate though. Literally, they called it what they did to leverage the popularity of the old storyline. If other layers of meaning existed, it was mostly because they were inserted to make the chosen title more relevant.

"Infinite Crisis" sounds cooler, while still making a connection to the old, fondly remembered, series. "Another Crisis on Infinite Earth" (while probably more accurate, considering DC's love of Crises) sounds lame.

I think it's essentially the problem of Alex sorting through the universes. Presumably, he would keep making Earths and searching for the ideal one or portions of the ideal one. The Crisis spreads out across this man-made Multiverse, presumably across time, and could last as long as Alex is alive or maybe longer (as there's no telling what kind of chaos might result if he didn't finish before his death). It spans across universes, across space, across time, and could be a significant problem in the future.
Admittedly, that's just one part of the mini, but it seemed to build to that point.

What's next? Maximus Crisis...us? Seriously, they gotta think of something new sometime. World War Hulk, now that's a crisis!

I enjoyed Infinite Crisis...I must be in the minority. :D
Other possible names...

Things to Do in the DC Universe When Your World is Dying
I think the biggest problem I had with Infinite Crisis (and I'm getting off on a tangent here, no pun intended), is that the writers went into it saying "Who can we kill?" instead of letting the story dictate it. Such as, XYZ happens, and Character B ends up biting it. They said, "We want Character B to die, so XYZ has to happen.
Stories always suffer when you don't let the story progress naturally, when you force things "just because". I think it was even progressing well to begin with, but got forced in the end...
Regardless, overall I enjoyed it. It had a few highlights I liked.

I know they are lame, I thought it was pretty obvious that I was joking :p
