Is avengers: intiutive being cancelled? It's one of the best books out right now! I'd hate to see it cut off early.

I doubt it. They've just brought on Gage to co-write and it's a pretty decent seller.

You might want to explain why you think this. It posted suprisingly strong numbers at the beginning of its run from what I heard. Seems like Marvel is happy with it's performance, unless there's a story reason.

I had heard that a top 20 seller was going to get cancelled, and someone mentioned A:I, so I got worried.

Thats just a rumor at the moment, not something thats actually written in stone just yet.
I enjoy reading lying in the gutters as much as anybody else but it's not always 100%.

My guess would be one of the core Avengers titles after Secret Invasion. If there's no reason for the teams to operate seperatly anymore afterwards, they can cancel one of the books and do Avengers 2x a month instead.

I don't how I would feel about that.
I really would prefer the New Avengers to stay exactly as they are, the dark street level version of Marvel's all-stars.

I think this title already served it's purpose.Remember it was meant to be a limited series they could tie it in with SI I suppose.

People, stop talking about it. It's rumors like this that are the true cause of cancellations.
And I don't want the Initiative to be cancelled. Along with Thunderbolts it's the best title with the Initiative banner, even if they don't have it anymore.

Why would Young Avengers returning mean A:TI would be ripe for cancellation?
Other than Stature, none of the YA are in the book. And there's room for YA and A:TI.

I don't think it'll be cancelled and gone for good, but there's a good chance it'll be reinvented if marvel decides to get rid of registration. There was actually a recent LITG rumor about a book ending because of skrulls.

The Initiative and Camp Hammond could in theory continue even if the registration were to end.
I'm sure there's still plenty of people out there that would want training and a job in government.

or it could just become the new Irredeemable Ant-Man book and follow his training by Taskmaster and, inevitable, fugitive status. actually, i wouldn't mind seeing the Shadow Ops team getting their own mini. i think Ant-Man, Melee, Geldoff, Crusader, and Taskmaster should join up.
Dan does seem to be setting the Initiative up for a humongous fall. the new kids in issue 1 weren't angels but most of them were interested in doing well/making it into 'the show.' but just a quick glance at the most recent recruits reminds me of the Thunderbolts recruitment drive during Civil War.
Melee - that expression on her face pretty much pegs her as the 'attitude girl.'
Geldoff - as characterized in the Ultimate titles he has no moral compass and likes blow up private property for fun
Ant-Man - is Ant-Man
Crusader - a skrull naturally adept at lying who is in possession of a cosmic cube ring and his own shape-shifting powers
Red-Nine - a juvenile delinquent (even more reckless than Speedball) with a power suit
+
two more outwardly heroic but inexperienced superheroes whose powers are limited by access to another gamma-irradiated individual (Geiger) and special cauldrons (Dragon-Lord)

So, I was reading Pipeline just a few minutes ago and they said that it looks like Avengers: The Initiative might be cancelled soon because it's not receiving as many readers as it should.
This is the first comic book series I read and I took a week or so to track down every issue. If you were pushed away at the first couple issues I understand, but around issue #4 it turns into a very well written book.
It seems to me like I'm the only one at my LCS who even reads it.
The art is good, the writing has enough humor in it to keep it from turning into a really edgy book, the characters are written extremely well, it has almost anything you could hope for from a comic book.
I'm just posting this to try and encourage some new readers to pick it up. If you have anything to say about this comic, post it. I would hate to see a great title like this get cancelled.

Actually, if you read the pipeline again, he doesn't say that it might get canceled. To be exact, he clarifies to prevent this kind of reaction at the end of the portion relating to the Initiative, here: (No, I have no insider knowledge on this. It's just my "woe is me" attitude today.) To paraphrase, he didn't say "it might get canceled because of this reason or that," he said "because I like it, I'm sure it will be canceled."
I too enjoy the Avengers: The Initiative book a great deal, but there is no rumor of it being canceled, just someone trying to be preemptive in saving it, in case it does get to that point.

I doubt they would have brought Christos Gage in if they were cancelling it soon. ;)
But yeah, the sales aren't really that positive of a sign. Or at least the sales drop-off.
From The Beat:
30. AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE
04/07 Initiative #1 - 127,798
05/07 Initiative #2 - 103,189 (-19.3%)
06/07 Initiative #3 - 92,339 (-10.5%)
07/07 Initiative #4 - 94,773 ( +2.6%)
08/07 Initiative #5 - 86,536 ( -8.7%)
09/07 Initiative #6 - 74,184 (-14.3%)
10/07 —
11/07 Initiative #7 - 66,455 (-10.4%)
12/07 Initiative #8 - 58,126 (-12.5%)
6 mnth (-37.1%)
31. AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE ANNUAL
12/07 Annual #1 - 57,620
The monthly series continues to bleed readers at a terrifying rate. On the bright side, for what it’s worth, the Annual manages to sells quite close to the core title. Normally they lag further behind.
But realistically, this is a book with serious problems. This is the third straight issue to drop by more than 10%, and there’s no sign yet of the book levelling out. It literally cannot carry on like this.

Guys,
A little perspective:
All 8 issues of AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE have placed in the Top 30.
Every issue has outsold ACTION COMICS, SUPERMAN, and most of DC's regular monthly line. I've never seen so many people fret over a book that was well within the Top 50.
Chill. It's all okay. We're safe as houses.
The only thing you should be worried about is KIA-- and how he's doing his best to turn the Initiative from a team book into a solo title. :)

Hey Dan. Thanks for writing Beast so well during his guest appearances.
Hopefully the refrences to Dani's Valkyrie powers means they're coming back soon. :D
And I'll never forgive you if Baron Von Blitzschlag was killed by KIA.
Who'd have thunk a former Nazi was such a great character. He needs a mini-series. :p

Thats the problem with trying to introduce new characters in a new title, it's hard for people to take a risk and keep with it for 10 issues or so. I really enjoy the ATI, but I agree that the first few issues are nothing spectacular, but A. you need them to build a story and B. honestly which comics are? I bet if I read Action Comics #1 I'd be less than thrilled( I know diffrent Era, but you get the point). I've had this disscusion about the Order and other comics that have been canceled, but with the price of comics and no other way of viewing them (legally of course) it is really hard to buy into the first 10 issues or so so you can learn the characters and story. Anyway I'll keep them on my pull, because things look like they might be getting pretty good now.

To add to what Dan said, we are just fine -- it's a very good sign that the Annual sold almost identical numbers to #8, when Annuals usually sell well below the monthly -- and we have a huge part in Secret Invasion coming up. So, while I encourage everyone to urge their friends to pick up A:TI (Top 30 is great, but Top 5 would be better! ;) ), don't fret.

don't care to much for the Baron, but have to agree with the rest of what you said. Along with adding Diamondback I'm going to be along for a while longer. Although I really don't care too much for the super powered arm storyline (they are cop out super powers in my opinion) the rest of the book is good enough that the actual menace they are fighting isn't as important.

I agree, it is still doing well now but I think it's just the dip though every month that is freaking people out (though I myself expect the series will soon find a spot it's comfortable with on the charts and stay there).
That and alot of comic fans are unsavory jerks when it comes to buying books that focus on original characters.
Dan, change the name to Wolverine: The Initiative. Sales will jump a lil bit and stabilize immediately.
Chances are people will be too stupid to realize the book is still the same and keep buying.
It's fail proof.
Hopefully the references to Dani's Valkyrie powers means they're coming back soon.
I don't know, being the encyclopedia of Marvel past and present that Dan's fantastic writing is, thats probably just a shout out to continuity.
Christos might have wrote that though so I could just look like a douche now.
I swear, I never give that poor guy the credit he deserves.
