View Full Version : How come Uncharted isn't getting it's dues?

I'd have to say that Uncharted is one of Sony's best games right now. It's just an amazing game visually as well as gameplay.

I understand the appeal of great games like Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, HALO 3, etc., but I'd have to say that if you're really talking about great exclusive games for systems, you'd have to look at Uncharted as a game that other systems should be envious of.

How is it not getting its dues? It's getting great reviews, pretty much.

This thread is about one of 3 places where people have mentioned how awesome the game is. But when you hear about all the great games that's headlining the news, it's the usual stuff like Bioshock, Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, etc?

Know what I mean? It's like the gaming industry seems really enthralled by the graphical advancements of FPSs only and aren't raving enough about all the other types of games.

I could, obviously, be VERY wrong here, but I just don't hear enough about the game. The word of mouth isn't as strong as I think it should be.

I get what you're saying, but I think a lot of that stems from the fact that the games you listed are being played by a much larger group. And a lot of that boils down to the fact that many more people own Xbox 360s and PCs than do PS3s. I have read some stellar comments on Uncharted's graphics, but when the majority of the users are playing games like COD4, Bioshock, and Gears of War, those are the ones that you are going to hear the most about.

Personally, I like FPS games, but not near as much as third person games like Uncharted. It definitely ranks up there as one of my favorite games of the last couple of years.

Uncharted is a great game, but I felt it was too short, really. I beat it in about a week and I didn't really throw down really just played casually. I didn't collect all the treasure or anything, so I guess I could go back and try for that, though I seem to have no real drive to do so.

Despite all that, it is a really good game with some stellar graphics and very well written story and great/fun gameplay

COD4 and Gears are mostly multiplayer driven games, the single players for both aren't the main focus. Uncharted isn't however, it's a purely 100% single player experience. It took me slightly over 7 hours on Normal to beat the entire games and had no real drive to go back and replay it (if you do, that's cool, but as far as me personally I didn't at all). As far as Bioshock, well I don't know, it took me a lot longer then that to good through it and I had the want to replay it, so it didn't short to me.

I think it is largely because they are whats selling well. Its truly all I play. I enjoy the fps because of the on-line capabilities. I like getting on and playing with someone who I can bull sh*t with. Playing the computer was fun when I was younger but now it just gets repetitive.

With sales and above mentioned on-line abilities I think that is why FPS are getting all the attention.

So, general opinion is that it really is a good game, but some of the acclaim that the other games are getting is because there is the multi-player facet that Uncharted is missing?

That works for me. Thanks for all your input, fellas.

Uncharted was beautiful, fun to play, and did absolutely nothing new.
It is an entirely compitant game that doesn't have a lot of problems, but the combination of ps3 having a lower installed base, and the game not having any big innovations, is kinda getting it the shaft.
People, when the people are reviewers, are always looking for something new.

You're not hearing as many people singing the praises of Uncharted as games like Bioshock, Halo 3 and Call of Duty because more people have Xbox 360s than have PS3s.

Simple as that.

Pretty much, yeah. PS3 exclusives aren't going to get as much talking about because not that many people are playing them.

Low install base is the answer.

I just started playing Uncharted yesterday and it by far has some of the best characters in any game I have played. Nathan Drake is just a really cool guy without the game's creators trying too hard to make him a cool guy. He's really funny and believable as a character and not just a caricture of an adventuerer. I love when a grenade gets close to him and he goes "Oh ****, oh ****, oh ****" or something to that affect.
