Left my ipod at home today. Tonight I'll post the playlist I've been listening to a lot lately. It's the soundtrack to the novel I'm working on.

Oh, really...I love her whole album. What's the other track you like? I'm guessing Life Is Real or Down on My Knees.

Here's a Songs From MySpace Mix (songs that have appeared on my MySpace page over the past few months):

1. Yeah Yeah (remix) by Flosstradamus. Electro-type song with a heavy Fischerspooner vibe. Also, robot voices.

2. Push It to the Limit by Paul Engemann. Awesome montage song from 80s gangster favorite, Scarface.

3. Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It by Ice Cube. Cube's new single, chock full of political irony.

4. Dirty Girl by Felt. A "like" song about literally dirty girls (a waitress, an auto mechanic...)

5. I'm Your Pimp by The Skull Snaps. Soul and funk 60s/70s classic, one of the most sampled songs in rap music. Also, one of the greatest band names, ever.

6. D.A.N.C.E. by Justice. One of my favorite songs of 2007. Also had the best music video of '07: http://www.vicerecords.com/video/justice/justice-dance.mov

7. Recycled Air by The Postal Service. Put this song on while your plane taxis and watch your fears disappear.

8. Hits From the Bong by Cypress Hill. It's about...well, you know. Makes great use of a sample from Dusty Springfield's Son of a Preacher Man.

9. Lesson 3: History of Hip Hop by Steinski. Old school classic, a megamix of the roots of hip hop music.

10. As Long As I've Got You by The Charmels. Another soul classic, sampled by the Wu-Tang Clan.

11. Dumb It Down by Lupe Fiasco. Lead single from one of the top albums of '07, The Cool.

12. Requiem by Nitro Microphone Undergound. Japanese rap song by the group considered to be the Japanese equivalent of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Never understood the interest in artists like Bob Dylan, Jonny Cash, or the Beastie Boys. I'm missing something, I suppose.

Can't go wrong with the Rogers though. He's the Gambler baby!

Yes, you are. Dylan and Cash are great songwriters. And the Beastie Boys are just fun fun fun.

I'm not a big Sigur Ros fan. Takes all kinds.

Beastie Boys was actually thrown in as a specific jab at you, Rick :p

Cash and Dylan may be good songwriters (debatable), but they lack a little on the singer end of things.

Takes all kinds, as you say. Besides...life would be boring if we all agreed, all the time.

My listening (and guitar-playing) pleasures come from from a lot of eclectic roots...but I LOVE anything with a metal guitar...my iPod right now has loads of Dokken, Ozzy Osbourne,Black Sabbath,Judas Priest,Iron Maiden and yes...a little Rick Springfield...he's my guilty pop pleasure...

Funny...I don't feel jabbed.

Beg to differ. They don't always have to be American Idol warblers to be great vocalists. Oh...and the songwriting part? Not debatable. :)

Cash has an amazing singing voice.

What am I listening to these days? Guess I'll pick twelve.

1. California Girls - The Magnetic Fields, Distortion
2. Down is Up - Hans Zimmer, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
3. Clap Hands - Tom Waits, Rain Dogs
4. Intervention - Arcade Fire, Neon Bible
5. Arrival to Earth - Steve Jablonsky, Transformers
6. Qué Onda Guero- Beck, Guero
7. High-Minded Castle - Susumu Hirasawa
8. The Mob Rules - Black Sabbath, The Mob Rules
9. The Good Times are Killing Me - Modest Mouse, Good News for People Who Love Bad News
10. Across the Universe - Jim Sturgess, Across the Universe

and at the risk of enduring the wrath of half the site. Tom Waits is another non-singer who everyone seems to like. Quite inexplicably. I do like his lyrics though so, I guess I half like him.

Why do you feel the need to jab your friend? :(

:)

I downloaded some of the music from your list and gave 'em a spin this morning. Here's a quick review:

Camille - Pretty, but I don't normally listen to foreign language songs I have no connection to. For example, I love listening to Seu Jorge's Portuguese versions of David Bowie songs from The Life Aquatic. I even picked up the whole album of other songs he recorded for the movie but were left out.

Apartment - They sound like a million other bands (new wave smooshed with emo), but the song you put up's not bad. I may give some more a listen.

Maximo Park - Same feeling as Apartment. Like music from non-existent John Hughes movies.

Ayo - Okay. Makes me want to listen to older, better stuff.

Post more! I'll give it all a shot. I'll go through some of the other lists as well, although Spyda's had the most stuff I'd never heard of.
----

Tom Waits is the voice of absolute heartbreak. The singing doesn't have to be perfect to be effective or emotional. Waits, Cash, and Dylan can bring me to tears if I'm in a certain mood.

You know, foreign language songs make up the majority of my new music purchases now.

I fully blame my music appreciation teacher in highschool for my current tastes. He taught me to listen for things that I think many people take for granted or ignore outright.

Anyway, I'm enjoying this thread. Lots of good music picks, and very varied. Good stuff.

I've got to see what that sounds like. It doesn't seem like a Ministry-Type Song.
