Ok here goes

Monarch and his army show up and figtht the Moniters and begin killing all the heroes of earth-51. Monarch gloats to Solomon about him being a failure. Solomon escapes and joins the rest of the moniters in their command station. They call him a loser and stuff and then go to join their brothers in their fight.

The Moniter of earth 51 is shown abover the earth. It seems like he was masking Ray Palmer's energy signal from the rest of the moniters.

The Batman of this earth is monitering the battle but his brother eye satilite is destroyed by Superwoman. Kyle and Ray flee but are attacked by nazi versions of Booster Gold, Supergirl, and Green Lantern.

Donn is attacked by a younger teen titans version of herself while jason is attacked by this squid head looking thing. Donna give her evil counterpart the slip and Jason is saved by Earth-51 batman.

Donna is being watched by that insect queen from the Microverse.

Solomon is being emo on the moniters command station when Superman-Prime shows up wanting to know were his earth is.

Jimmy is sitting in his living room while Forager is taking a shower. It's revealed that Jimmy is gaining his new powers from the life energy of the dying new gods.

The issue ends with Jason tied to a chair in the Bat-Bunker. It looks like Earth-51 Batman is a violent vigilante like jason as he's got guns and explosives all other the walls. Batman threatens to kill Jason if he doesn't explain who he really is

Y'notice what particular costume this Batman has in his Batcave?

Hint: it's in Jimenez's first Countdown image. ;)

It looks like Solomon will make a deal with Prime and then next issue Prime will take Monarch down a peg or two

I think those are the Earth-3 versions.

I loved this issue. I'm glad I've stuck with countdown so long, it IS starting to pay off.

I was laughing to myself that the major difference between this earth and New Earth was the fact that THIS earth's batman kills supervillians after the JLA is done fighting them. Now THAT is a bad@#$ version of batman!

$100 bucks says that in the end this Jason will turn out to have been from another Earth and on E51 that Jason was Red Robin but died, and our Jason will take over his identity to honor him.

In a metatextual sense sure. Seeing villians escape for the dozenth time would lead a logical vigilante to just off unredeemable villians.

But with the 4th wall in place....that would be a horrible world to live in unless we assume the heroes are infallible or they only fight crime like the Joker's sprees. It's the failure of criminal justice that villians run around (and publishers wanting money obviously).

Yeah I noticed that as well:

I wonder where things go from here regarding the teasers. This was a pretty good Countdown issue as well with some answers finally trickling in. I feel really bad for Earth-51, everything is going to hell in what was supposed to be a peaceful place for Ray. Earth-51 Batman here is interesting with his movie style body armor.

Not sure what to still make of Superman Prime's use, he still seems to be looking for his home but then what? I'm also left wondering what's going on with Holly and Pied Piper although my interest in Mary Marvel/Eclipso has totally waned to the point of not caring anymore unless something good happens between now and then. I'm pretty sure Monarch is being controlled somehow, even though we saw that Monarch was the Atom in Battle for Bludhaven he's been acting all out of character. There has to be a reason for it related to Darkseid. Monarch may seem to be the villain for Countdown but he sure as hell can't be the villain for Final Crisis.

When I saw Pete Woods covers for Countdown I was like "Whoah awesome! I wished the dude did interiors." and voila, here he does most of the art (although without Brad Anderson) and it looks great. He has a very nice definitive clean style , I hope DC gives him more high profile projects and stable gigs because they're really lucky to have him, I'd kill to have him do some Marvel work.

Tom Derenick does a nice job with the transitions too.

7/10

DC heard you.........

.......and ignored you, kinda, because they put him on INFINITY INC, which is basically a low-selling book awaiting cancellation at this point. :-/

As soon as I saw the costume in the glass cupboard that was my thought too.
