Hello people. Got the hardcover recently and read through it several times. A very enjoyable read indeed. Not as good as the first book but anyway...Question!
[SPOILER]
After we witnessed what amazing things Hawkeye can do with just his fingernails, a large group of terrorists rushed into the room with guns in their hands all ready to fire AS SOON AS Hawkeye even TOUCHES the gun. Then Hawkeye said "Idiots. You guys are dead already.", with a panel showing him reaching for the gun. Next panel cut to the control room, through the monitor and radio we know that all hell broke loose and Hawkeye managed to kill every last one of them in the torture room. Now this is what I don't understand: Just HOW did he manage that? I know he's not completely surrounded 360 degrees all around him, but even the 3 terrorists in the first row could have taken him out if he even moves a muscle. We clearly see that Hawkeye hasn't have a firm grip on the gun yet, in fact he wasn't even touching the gun, he only had his hand hovering above the gun while all the terrorists had a pretty good aim on him. I know he has deadly aim, but he isn't Quicksilver, he isn't super fast, he can't move at supersonic speed. Just how can he picks up the gun without turning into a beehive? Let alone picking up the gun, pulling the trigger, dodging all incoming fire and killing everybody in a confined space without a single bullet wound.
Thank you for taking the time to read this minor and probably stupid question. I might have missed some very obvious and plausible explanations and I hope some of you would kindly point out what it is.

The same way Arnold was able to kill about 30 armed, trained soldiers with automatic weaponry without a wound in Commando, really. Action Movie Physics.

Haha, I was gonna say about the same thing. Hawkeye just has the supernatural ability of being unquestionably awesome.

Agreed. Hawkeye in The Ultimates 2 was one of the best characters Marvel has produced in years. Tortured, badass and funny. The finger nail scene is one of my favorite comic moments ever, and I have been reading for over 20 years.

It was Frank Miller not Mark Millar that wrote that scene, what he forgot to add was "I'm the Goddamned Hawkeye."
you know that scene (including the fingernails scene) pretty much ruined the whole arc for me.
I hate it when Millaer goes "over the top "like that.
He did the same in his "Return of the King" arc in UXM.
The arc was perfect until a half dead Cyke is suddenly healthy again and takes out half of Magnetos henchmen

Yeah that scene didn't ruin the book for me or anything as serious as that, but it did throw me off a little bit. Since the book's supposed to be "realistic", I would expect a logical explanation as to how exactly could Hawkeye achieved something like that, other than simply "because he can".
What really bothers me the most about the book is the final battle with all the orcs and giant wolves. It serves no purpose at all except giving fans some fancy art to look at and a chance for Hitch to show off his draftsmanship. But it just feels so out of place. If they wanted to end the book with an epic battle, that's absolutely fine with me. But going from political conflict, destruction of major cities in America, to mythical creatures all of a sudden!? that's just too big a jump. I know they had to wrap things up with Loki but summoning all those fantasy creatures for a showdown was a bit too forced.
But plenty of other great moments in the book made up for it though. Especially the fight between Quicksilver and the Hurricane, with Hawkeye falling the slow motion, greatest comicbook sequence for me personally.

I thought it was a great scene of fantasy fiction.
There's always of mystique of the jump scene that makes you say "How on earth?". You see it in movies all the time.
An arrogant guy says something snide to a woman and she looks at her girlfriend and says "What a self serving jerk... I bet that guy never gets laid"
The next scene shows her in bed with the guy and she's all over him.
Sure you'd love to know how he got her there but it kind of defeats the purpose of the dramatic jump scene.
Even though it's meant to be a realistic comic book, it's still a comic book. You still really want to know?
OK fine. The terrorists are about to put one in his skull when all of a sudden Hawkeye yells, "Hey look... Ultimate Nighthawk brought Valkyrie in here and she's only wearing a thong and she's drunk!" The terrorists look behind them and then Hawkeye kills three of the terrorists. The other terrorists then look back at Hawkeye ready to shoot and he says "Hey, do you guys like playing dominoes?" The terrorists kind of look at each other and then one shrugs and says "I do". Hawkeye asks him if he has any bones so they can play. The terrorist goes back to his station and gets the dominoes and they sit down and play 2 on 2 to 150. Five minutes later, Hawkeye throws down the double five and shouts "Twenty twen twen" and wins the game. The terrorist that he was playing with goes to give him a hi five and Hawkeye throws a domino right into his temple... killing him instantly. The remaining terrorists are about to shoot him and Hawkeye shouts "Parley". As the terrorists look around Hawkeye asks them if they enjoy drinking games. Turns out one of the terrorists is a college kid who's doing terrorism as a summer job. He breaks out some cards and a bottle of Goldschlager and they begin to play Presidents . Hawkeye gets them drunk and ends up killing the remaining terrorists. He gets up slowly and walks over to the surveillance camera.

P.S. Scorpion, you discredit and underestimate John Matrix to the point of insult. It was easily 100 armed trained soldiers with automatic weaponry that he killed.
