I've read the first 3 issues of the Sentry and then got out of touch with it for a while. It seems that the series had stopped in 2006.
Is the series done for and living on in The Mighty Avengers or is it on haiatus?

The most recent Sentry series was just an 8 issue mini and has completed.

The '1 of 8' in the corner of the first issue was a clue.

Once he gets more popular and has a good status quo they will probably give him an ongoing series. They have just about enough history to build upon for a couple of good arcs.

I read them online I didn't really bother to look at the covers.

Does the Sentry have to continuously drink the formula or he just had to do it after he and everybody have forgotten him?

he drank it once, and that was it, but for an extended period of time the Doctor kept giving him "serum" which was actually just glucose injections, because the Sentry's rather messed up psyche had decided he was addicted to the serum and needed it to keep his powers.

I don't see why not. Perhaps after he becomes more a a mainstay at the moment hes just merely a powerhouse character with little credibility.Unlike most mainstay powerhouses(Thor,Mar Vell,Nova...ect) hes got to pay his dues which may take a couple of years.

I forgot who it was, but didn't some writer post about how 2008 would include the "death of the greatest Marvel hero" or something?

THAT RIGHT THERE does a tremendous disservice to the idea that is Gunnery Sgt. R. Lee Ermey, USMC (retired).
Make fun of Chuck Norris all you want - the man's a walking self-cariacature.
But Ermey is a real hero who trained real heroes. Since The 'Nam, Marvel has done a very poor job of portraying members of the US military, and The Gauntlet character is no exception.
