I loved RAS' work on the Nightcrawler ongoing that came out during reloaded, so I'm really looking forward to seeing him handle the Wiccan/Speed chapter of the miniseries. Here's hoping we see some Hulkling in there also. I miss those two crazy kids. Can't wait. And hopefully we'll see more YA in '08.

Agreed, Aguirre-Sacasas is one of the big underrated authors at Marvel.

Don't know much about the writer, but I'm still excited about these YA one-shots. Has Aguirre-Sacasa done any other Marvel (or DC) work outside of that Nightcrawler series?

The interview on Newsarama notes most of his recent Marvel work.

Wait a tick.
He's a bad guy for being gay, but you're giving him some slack for writing Sensational Spider-Man.

Atleast you capitalized Fruity. It is a proper noun I suppose.

Maybe he's confusing being gay, with being a cereal mascot.

LOL @ this thread. Apparently Fruity is the new Rainbow.
Anyway, I'm excited to get Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing Wiccan. He also seems to have a feel for Speed as well as their sibling relationship so this will be an entertaining issue.
I dunno how far their search for Wanda will get, though, if Heinberg does indeed have plans for that plot and gets to actually start writing season two anytime soon.

My guess would be a lot of investigating their origin and not a heck of a lot of Searching for Wanda.
Has it ever been brought up how Wiccan and Speed are teenagers so they couldnt' actually BE Wanda's children without some serious reality warping? -Which I know is Wanda's bread and butter but considering MOST people don't know she was responsible for the House of M world shift, I imagine regular characters would be wondering how the heck the two of them came to be who they are now.

I like the way the guy actually sounds very excited when talking about the characters and how he relates to them. I didn't get that feeling from Reed, he sounded like he only did it because he got the Cap Marvel mini, and Brubaker sounded like his thing is mostly Patriot and Hawkeye. Of course, he only wrote them because they fit with his stories, so I don't know if I'm judging him fairly.
It was kinda funny how he says that Marvel pretty much told him to get Speed in the issue somehow, even though it sounds like he did it quite well. They really do forget about him most imes, don't they? Hell, you can take the part of the solit that mentions Speed away completely, and the thing sounds just as good :D
The Harry Potter comment was kind of funny, although I don't know if the Potter fans would like their fave charater being compared to a gay character...
And, what is it with everyone saying how only Heinberg can write a YA on-going? I loved the first "season", and I like what Heinberg's said about his plans for season 2, but I think he could plot the stories and let any other writer script. Specially one of these, although Aguirre-Sacasa and Bru seem like the best ones out of the bunch (although I've never read anything from Paul Cornell...).

It's not that he's the only one that can write it, but that seems to be Marvel's intentions at least for season two, as he already shared some of his ideas for it and all. Perhaps with the strike he will finally get to do it, and when he's done hopefully some other writer will take over then. Please let it be Brian K. Vaughan (it's nice to have a dream...).

BKV would be sweet!! And yes, it's nice to dream, hope makes life better :D
And well, if Heinberg could just finish the Young Masters of Evil arc I'd be happy. Someone else can handle the Wanda arc, but I really want to see Heinberg's take on the YMoE (I love these acronyms, really lol). I'll miss my TV shows and all, but at least comics are new weekly (most times) :p

This is the issue I'm most excited about. Wiccan is my favorite Young Avenger and out of the writers announced so far R.A.S. is the one i*m most familiar with.
His Sensational Spider-man was the best mainstream Spidey book of the time.

Excuse me?
It's not that hard to say the words 'gay' or 'homosexual' you know, you don't need to flinch from it. You also don't need to be a bigot; the fact that he enjoys having sex with men is no concern of yours at all. I'm sure you enjoyed the X-men movies or House despite their director being gay so why is it all an issue here?

THis post is a joke, right?
You are trying to be funny, correct?
If not, how exactly does his sexual orientation affect his writing as far as being solid or not?
Please explain this to me, cuz I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the comment...

I didn't read his whole run on Sensational Spider-man, but I read the last issue and loved it. Wiccan is my favorite Young Avenger too, and I really enjoy Speed's personality and dialogue (with his brother, specially), so I'll enjoy this issue a lot :D
And guys, CMBMOOL said something innapropiate, but wouldn't it be bettar to just ignore the comment and go on with the thread? I'm "Fruity" and I won't lie, it was offensive to say that, but really, what's the point of telling him/her he/she is wrong? It hasn't worked on most people, I doubt it'll start now :o

The dialogue was tight and in-character for everyone. So that aspect should hold true for Wiccan and Speed as well. And I love Wiccan's voice. It's a geek with magic powers who uses tips from self-help books to get his powers to function. That's awesome

I may get some issues of RAS' run, it sounds awesome.
And the more good stuff is said about him, the more I look forward to this issue in particular. I have wanted to read Wiccan-dialogue and Wiccan-Speed banter for so long... :p
I am so looking forward to this! I love Wiccan and I love RAS... Speed I'm not so fond of but I'm sure he'll be fun in the story.
Does anyone know what the rest of this series is lined up like? How many issues is it? There's Hawkeye (II), Stature, and Vision are the only ones left that could be spotlighted? Do you guys think they will each have one? I wonder who will write and draw them.

It's six issues.
#4 is the Vision by Paul Cornell, artist unknown (the writers so far are all top-drawer types, while the artists come from the "up-and-comer" pool).
#5 and 6 aren't announced yet; they hadn't been worked out at the time the series was announced. It was originally going to be just five issues, so the final one would presumably be Kate/Cassie together; now that there are six, they may each get one, or the sixth is a team issue. The solicit for the first issue gives the team as "Patriot, Hulkling, Wiccan, Vision, Stature, and Hawkeye", which is, so far, an accurate prediction of the order of the issues themselves, so if each gets there own, Stature is #5 and Hawkeye II is #6.

Alina did the Red Ronin part of the Marvel Holiday Special, it's very much in the same style of Kaare Andrews/Josh Middleton/Cully Hamner. It's soft but very nice looking, here's a sample page from the special:

It looks very nice, and I agree, it really suits the story and characters. It is dynamic, for the Speed panels, and very colorful, which is a must when you're telling a magic-based story.

Does anybody know if Heinberg is ever coming back?
In a WordBalloon interview over on Newsarama a few months ago, Heinberg said that he wasn't doing monthly comics anymore, because he didn't have the time, the exception being if there was a writers' strike. When the strike started, he said that if it lasted into 2008, he would start thinking about coming back. In the first WordBalloon, he said that Marvel was exploring other options for the series.
So, in short, no, we don't know; maybe, now that the strike is on, but it would have to last another three months, minimum, for him to do twelve issues.
