Presto Ballet's 2nd album The Lost Art Of Time Travel is due out February 22nd, 2008 on Inside Out Music.

The album's US release will be via ProgRock Records, though the exact date hasn't been announced yet.

For sure. They are one of a handful of bands that I eagerly anticipate albums from. They have never disappointed my ears; there is something unique about each album. Some may be better than others, but I can listen to any Tesla album, straight through, any day.

Based on that comment, we're brethren in arms then. My favorite band of all-time. I was crushed when they split up and beside myself when they got back together. I don't make it to all of their concerts when they are in the area, but they have my support all of the time. Scars on Broadway have cancelled their tour:


Scars On Broadway has announced that they will be cancelling all tour dates aswell as their appearance on the Jimmy Kemmel show with no plans to reschedule. Apparantly, the reason given is that singer/guitarist Daron Malakian doesn't feel that his heart is into touring at the present time.

Scars On Broadway sold just under 24,000 copies of their self-titled debut album this year and features System Of A Down members Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan.

If these rumors are true, I'm not shocked. Personally, I never found them to be all the great. Talented musicians, but, in my opinion, there was nothing that ever made them stand out all that much from average metal bands.

I love it!

I thought they would rock faster, but with Tommy gone, as whole, I was reminded of Steppin' Over, and it's overall sound, from their first greatest hits collection. I love that song. I love this album.

They rock just as hard, even if the tempo is slowed down for the majority of the album. They reign in the sounds of other albums, and still make their new material brisk and energetic.

Queensryche has titled their next album, which is a concept album:


Queensryche has named their 12th album American Soldier, which is being worked on right now by the band.

American Soldier will be about the viewpoint of soldiers in several wars America has been involved in this past century, including World War II and Iraq.

"QueensrŸche has always had incredible support from members of the Armed Services," says lead singer Geoff Tate. "It seems like after every show, I'd end up speaking with a fan that was or had been involved with the military. The more and more I began to hear their accounts and feelings, the more I really felt a conviction to tell their story. Over the last two years, I've conducted dozens of one-on-one interviews with veterans of many different American wars. I listened to their amazing and moving recounts and did my best to examine war through their eyes."

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has updated the condition of bassist Chi Cheng, who was involved in a serious car accident this past Monday.

According to HardDrive Radio, Cheng and his sister were apparently on their way back from a memorial service for their older brother when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident has not been determined at this time.

Moreno posted a message at the band's studio blog, in which he wrote, "I am back from up north visiting our brother Cheng. His condition remains the same — serious but stable.

"We, along with the entire Cheng family, would like to extend our gratitude to everyone that's said a prayer or sent out their positive thoughts to Chi. Your support means more than you know.

"During his recovery process, Chi's mother has asked that each day we spread a little bit of good in his name. So each day Deftones will be posting what you can do to help Chi recover. Today she has asked that you all remember to buckle your seat belts and remind those you love to buckle up. By doing something so little in his name, you will be helping him find the strength to recover."

Chi Cheng, 38, has been with the Deftones since they formed in 1988 and released a CD of his poetry called The Bamboo Parachute in 2000.

Anthrax has entered a Chicago studio with producer/guitarist Rob Caggiano to begin recording their new album.

Worship Music is the tenative title, with a May 2009 release date via Nuclear Blast Records (in Europe). The band will record about 13 original songs and four covers, including "Brain Of J" (Pearl Jam), "Big Eyes" (Cheap Trick), "New Noise" (The Refused), and "Running Down A Dream" (Tom Petty).

Drummer Charlie Benante wrote in a recent online posting, "The new tunes are very strong. We have some old-school thrash and some stuff that is like We've Come For You All meets Sound Of White Noise. This record is not forced — it is a very organic and honest representation of where we are as a band and as writers. I hear many things nowadays that sound forced, I ain't digging that. There is a six-minute tune called 'Down Goes The Sun', I believe it is one of my favorite songs. The music itself is epic, it sends chills up my spine. 'Face with No Name', 'The Devil You Know', 'Earth On Hell' — all killer."

Frontiers Records is truly excited to announce the European release of PLACES OF POWER debut album Now Is The Hour on January 23.

While the Places of Power moniker is brand new, this name hides the brand new collaboration between two superb artists who are no strangers to the concept of hard work and quality music. Bruce Turgon and Philip Bardowell can indeed boast in their pedigree collaborations with such bands and artists as Foreigner, Shadow King, Lou Gramm, Unruly Child, Magdalen and Peter Criss of Kiss.

Both have also released highly regarded solo albums for Frontiers Records during 2005 which gathered excellent reviews and great interests from press and fans alike. “Our collaboration started at the urging of Serafino Perugino, who felt that Bruce and I would work well together”, states singer Philip Bardowell. “I guess Serafino would be the "spark"! The flame was then ignited when Bruce and I started throwing around tunes and discovered that we shared a passion for strong melodies and hooks”. Bruce Turgon also recalls: “Philip came back with powerful ideas and performances that made me feel that we were on the same page - I knew that this would be a strong collaboration from the start. I tend to “live” a record and dwell on every aspect of it, so it was very important to me that we share a common vision, and we have”.

“Now Is The Hour” production process was then started and took some good time to be completed, due to the enthusiasm and care that both Philip and Bruce gave to the album writing and recording. “I love the integrity of this record” continues Bruce, “there are no “and also” tracks - every song is a work of substance”, with Bardowell adding that every track “is also crafted in the "pop" sense and the songs are catchy and accessible”.
With the help of Scott McKinstry who contributed lead guitars to the album, Philip took care of all lead vocals while Bruce played all the backing tracks. The tapes were then sent to famed studio guru Dennis Ward (of Pink Cream 69 and producer of Place Vendome, Sunstorm, Bob Catley, Angra, Krokus etc.) in Germany who mixed the album in the summer 2008.

“We were able to deliver a product that we're both very proud of” adds Bardowell, while Turgon concludes “this is an album that deserves to be played live. We've created a strong foundation for Places Of Power to build upon and everything is possible...”
The result is a jewel, one of those rare releases that gets your attention from the very first to the last second - splendid performances, killer production and marvellous songs: that's what “Now Is The Hour” is all about!

U2 have shelved a host of tracks recorded with Rick Rubin on their forthcoming 12th studio album. Guitarist The Edge said the Irish four-piece scrapped early sessions with the renowned knob-twiddler because it did not suit the band's style of recording.

"We actually laid all that stuff to one side. Really out of deference to Rick and that set of songs we just said, OK, that's that, and we drew a line," explained the guitarist. "So none of the Rick material went into this project. Everything has been written subsequently." He added: "He gave us great advice as much as anything. His whole thing is, 'Don't go near the studio until you know exactly what you want to do', which, of course, is the opposite of how we usually work."

Except Rubin (as a guy in Slayer said) is the type who wants you to have your shit togethor. He's not a George Martin/Eno type who wants to watch you build songs in a studio as ya go. He wants what you have written and ready to record. Then he'll throw his 2 cents in and basically tell you what is shit or not.

He was coming off 2 bands who have different recording philosphies than what Rubin does. Metallica and U2. I believe Metallica had a better idea and had things more ready since they released their Rick Rubin album.

Now who is to say that after this album , U2 doesn't go ahead and release the Rubin sessions as a new album ? Or come back , do more work to them and release em ? Because they can...or feed peoples hunger and keep em back for a Box Set down the line. I'm pretty sure U2 has a good Box Set of never released material ...we'll see at some point.

Cobra First Strike - "As any dude will tell you, the difference between achieving success and failing can be down to the most tenuous of reasons. For Cobra the early signs were better than most. They wrote great songs, were fronted by a world class vocalist in Jimi Jamison (later to join Survivor), had first class management (Butch Stone) holding the business reigns and, best of all, the colossal firepower of Epic Records right behind them. Inexplicably, however, the record failed to connect, taking the wind out of their sails and forcing an early retreat into the file marked 'strictly for connoisseurs'.

Although based in Memphis (by way of Switzerland) the band was truly an international collaboration featuring three Americans and two Swiss renegades; Mandy Meyer (from Krokus) and Tommy Keiser (who would also go on to play with Krokus). The Memphis contingent also had some serious form; Jimi Jamison having fronted A&M signed blues rockers Target and guitarist/keyboard player Jack Holder, a Memphis legend having seen active duty as a member of Black Oak Arkansas amongst many other accomplishments. Cobra First Strike - "As any dude will tell you, the difference between achieving success and failing can be down to the most tenuous of reasons. For Cobra the early signs were better than most. They wrote great songs, were fronted by a world class vocalist in Jimi Jamison (later to join Survivor), had first class management (Butch Stone) holding the business reigns and, best of all, the colossal firepower of Epic Records right behind them. Inexplicably, however, the record failed to connect, taking the wind out of their sails and forcing an early retreat into the file marked 'strictly for connoisseurs'.

Although based in Memphis (by way of Switzerland) the band was truly an international collaboration featuring three Americans and two Swiss renegades; Mandy Meyer (from Krokus) and Tommy Keiser (who would also go on to play with Krokus). Yes, Jamison was in Survivor. Cobra was the band, but like the text I copy & pasted in the original post said, the band never really connected so it isn't really surprising you haven't heard of them.

I have a cassette copy of the album and it is pretty good.

By the way, Jamison is out of Survivor for the 2nd time now and has a new solo album out called Crossroads Moment. I'm listening to it to do a review and it is really frickin' good.

Doro Pesch celebrated her 25-year career as the reigning queen of German heavy metal by performing a three-hour set on December 13 at the 20,000-capacity ISS Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany. HOLY MOSES, LEAVES EYES' and ARCH ENEMY opened the show and were followed by full set by DORO herself, which included guest appearances by Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth (OVERKILL), Jean Beauvoir, GRAVE DIGGER's Chris Boltendahl and guitarist Axel Rudi Pell, former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, SCORPIONS' Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker, as well as a host of other female vocalists, such as Liv Kristine (LEAVES' EYES), Floor Jansen (AFTER FOREVER), members of GIRLSCHOOL, Liv of SISTER SIN and Sabina Classen of HOLY MOSES.

HOLY MOSES, LEAVES EYES' and ARCH ENEMY opened the show and were followed by full set by DORO herself, which included guest appearances by Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth (OVERKILL), Jean Beauvoir, GRAVE DIGGER's Chris Boltendahl and guitarist Axel Rudi Pell, former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, SCORPIONS' Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker, as well as a host of other female vocalists, such as Liv Kristine (LEAVES' EYES), Floor Jansen (AFTER FOREVER), members of GIRLSCHOOL, Liv of SISTER SIN and Sabina Classen of HOLY MOSES.

Not that is a concert. I hope they filmed it for DVD.

I wonder why they changed the title of Bruce Dickinson's Chemical Wedding movie? I mean, aside from the fact that the title has nothing to do with the film. :wink:


I think they did film it but I can't recall specifics.

I just wanted to thank everyone for reading the thread.

I won't be updating this anymore.

I'll be starting the 2009 update thread just after 12 midnight tonight.

It's been a great year for metal and I'm hoping for more of the same in 2009.
