really? I thought he was one of those "I'm never going to seel out" types... that used to be one of my favorite mangas-- I only collected two titles every month for a couple of years:

Maison Ikkoku
Blade of the Immortal.

they were almost exact opposites... and yet, it seemed like a well-balanced month's worth of entertainment.

when I saw "Samurai Champloo" I honestly thought-- geez, these people should do an anime of "Blade of the Immortal", it would kick ass... I also couldn't help but wonder if there was some influence there as "Mugen" and "Manji" both have A LOT of things in common. in fact, if you gave Mugen a pseudo-Wolverine leve healing factor you'd practically have Manji.

hope this is more than a rumor and I hope it's got good artists and a script.

Sounds interesting.

I've always liked the premise of the book, I just never found the time to get into it. A TV series is just the right speed for my ADD-addled mind.

I just hope they take the time to do the action well.

Samurai Champloo is a great example of well-done chambara anime. And given that the action in BotI is so dynamic, I think it'd adapt well if done right.

Something like the Air Gear anime is a great example of how to screw up good action comics... the original manga is very dynamic, and the adapted anime is depressingly static.

Is there any mention of which studio is doing the adaptation?

The dark, gory, realistic mangas like Blade never become good anime when they are censored to death.

I wont even try this.

If they get a good, and I mean bloody excellent animation team, to do this it will be awesome.

The guys who did Samurai Champloo would be good, they're very smooth and have the right kind of colours.

The guys doing Bleach would be awful.

Basically.

Unless this is an OAV, to hell with it

That's about the size of it.

The Hellsing OVA animation team would do good things with this would do good things.

This is still one of my favourite manga, but I am worried that the anime will be heavily sanitized for the inevitable export to the North American market. They'll probably even take the Jains swastika off Manji's back "just to be safe."

"The current issue of Japan's Gekkan Afternoon Magazine has confirmed rumors from last December that Hiroaki Samura's Mugen no Jyuunin manga series, known in America as "Blade of the Immortal," will debut in anime television series form this summer. The anime will be produced by Bee Train (.Hack, Noir) with direction from Koichi Mashimo (Noir) and animation character designs by Yoshimitsu Yamashita (Murder Princess, Samurai Champloo).

Thought this was something that would interest everybody. I never cared for .hack and I'm a bigger fan of Madlax than I am of Noir but I think this team can pull off a good take on an animated adaptation of this excellent series. Here's hoping.

Aww man, Bee Train's doing it? They don't have a very good track record. Their adaption of Tsubasa Chronicles was horrible.

I picked up the manga a while back, but haven't checked out the first volume. Though from friends and friends of friends raving about it, it sounds fantastic. Actually, maybe that's why I'm hesitant. I don't need another amazing series to get hooked on right now.

Anyway, here's hoping the animation does it justice. Don't really know the studio.

I sure hope they keep the maji in and don't get all paranoid about it being seen as a Nazi symbol. The damn thing is set before they ever existed and stole the symbol for their own terrible means. I was looking at the intro the other day when I had the book lying out and they were talking about that.

Something like the Air Gear anime is a great example of how to screw up good action comics... the original manga is very dynamic, and the adapted anime is depressingly static.

Thank you! I've been trying to nail down why exactly I didn't care for the animation in Air Gear and you hit the nail on the head. For a show about skating and movement, the animation is stiff as hell. The still characters and cheap animation stick out like a sore thumb. We were actually supposed to watch it at our college's anime club today, but the person with the DVDs forgot them.

I dont recommend checking out the anime first.

Give the manga a chance.

There is a big chance a mellow version of the manga will turn you off.

I have seen it happen to many good/great dark, adult mangas getting their rep ruined by anime versions that isnt even similar.

Cam-rip capture from some event or another, you can get a decent look at the action but the audio is awful and there is, of course, reflected glare off the screen and such. Nonetheless, there's your sneak peek.

I'm tentatively hopeful. Not blown away, but neither am I completely turned off.

It don't look bad.

Thanks for the link! I'd been wanting to see a better version since that cam-rip popped up online.

I think it's a little too clean, but they're doing a decent job of sticking close to Samura's structural style.

I agree that the manga was getting pretty glacial... hopefully it'll benefit from the switch to graphic novel form, and read better when published in big chunks rather than small bites.

I've only ever read it in the GN format. Love it, personally.

The anime is looking fair. I'd like to see some daytime footage though as the nighttime stuff looks like it could get pretty bland.

That music has to go though. I hope that isn't a taste of the direction they're taking score-wise.
