Dan Abnett's tribute to Night Raven was a surprisingly fun read.

It follows Gray Poldark as he investigates the fictional world of his favorite hero, Night Raven. After doing some extensive research, he finds out it's not so fictional and becomes the successor to the vigilante's legacy. We're brought along as he learns, the hard way, how to be the night watchman. With some help from the original's sexy partner Mischief, the new vigilante, called Nocturne, manages to take on some of Night Raven's oldest villains.

I'd been putting off reading this for a while but, rather enjoyed it. It was a real fun and quick read.

What year did this come out. It sounds interesting but I've never heard of it before.

y'know, I have issue one and I never realized it was Abnett that was the writer. I think at the next convention I go to I may hunt the remaining issues down now that I know someone enjoyed it. thanks man :D

No problem, Hulkamaniac! It's definitely worth checking out. I certainly pulled all four of these issues out of $.25 bins at conventions throughout the years.

Warbird, I believe it was published in 1994-1995.

I was home for the holidays last week, and Nocturne 1 was one of the older comics I pulled out of storage to read. (Really just a random grab.) I liked it a lot, even if the art was very '90s (but mercifully balanced by John Stokes' inking). I never did follow up on the rest of the series, but I wish I had. It's not exactly a monumental work, but it seems like it would have been a fun ride.

I have this series. This was another one which you got the feeling was probably originally a pitch to Marvel UK, along with the self-titled Elsa Bloodstone mini.

It's actually not a bad little story. A nice tip of the hat the Night Raven. Sadly, it's not set in Marvel continuity. So the only Nocturne you'll find in actual continuity is a limboed former eXile, related to an alternate Nightcrawler. :(

The costume was okay, and setup well thought through. It's worth a read. Abnett's always done good work for Marvel. But it's not really been until the Annihilation event that he's really received a lot of the praise he deserves.

As I recall, Bloodstone came out way after the collapse of Marvel UK. I think it was released in 1998? This series, on the other hand, could easily fall into that category.

Oh it came out much later. 2001. But as a British character you had to wonder if she was something Abnett had once pitched for Marvel UK, during his tenure there.
